If we suddenly had to go into a 3 month lockdown again, how would you feel?

I think people would definitely comply. If it was Mpox I would want a smallpox vaccine as it's somewhat effective.

I haven’t read into this disease but if the choice was lockdown or actually dying of some weird new monkey disease I bet the bravado would drain away and most would be terrified of catching it.

autienotnaughty · 16/08/2024 03:04

I don't think the country would accept a lockdown this time. There would be an expectation around closing boarders, vaccination, perhaps some social distancing.

ThePure · 16/08/2024 03:07

Lockdown was a horrific experience for me on many levels.

The main thing is I hugely regret the time I lost with my mum in the last year of her life. I fully believed I was protecting her by not seeing her face to face but she died anyway and her funeral and wake were not what she deserved.

I was terrified the first time I had Covid early on pre vaccine and truly thought I had a reasonable chance of dying from it given the press coverage. Now that I've had it 3 or 4 times I could not care less and it's hard to see what all the fuss was about. Even many of the very elderly and frail people I care for survived our ward outbreak pre vaccine many with no significant symptoms. This was after I had spent most of a year in mortal fear of that outbreak. In hindsight I am certain that the restrictions caused more harm than Covid although I accept there was no way to know that initially.

I am generally a compliant law abiding good citizen and I complied with it all last time. Next time I honestly am not so sure I will be so obedient with nonsensical stuff.

I am not at all afraid of monkey pox. I think it should be pretty easy to avoid catching it for most people in developed countries

Horsecalledrhubard · 16/08/2024 03:12

Not a chance I’d follow lockdown rules. Pile of bollocks.

namechangeforthisi · 16/08/2024 03:13

It does seem a bit what are the chances ?

InWalksBarberalla · 16/08/2024 03:21

This from the guardian:
The new DRC outbreak is a mutated form of clade I mpox. Doctors report a fatality rate of about 5% in adults and 10% in children, as well as high rates of miscarriages among pregnant women.

If it was that bad here - 10% fatality rate in children - we wouldn't need a lockdown imposed because everyone would self lockdown. Can't imagine anyone sending their kids to school if mpox was running wild to face a 1 in 10 chance of dying.

ThePure · 16/08/2024 03:29

BBC website does also say it has been endemic in the DRC for many years so not a brand new disease and that it has to be very close contact to spread it. There are effective vaccines already existing as well just not enough supply and no effective programme in the areas it's needed.

I don't see it as being very likely that it will be a significant global issue.

Movingon2024 · 16/08/2024 03:39

I would not comply.

the economic and social costs were too high last time.

Justwondering36 · 16/08/2024 03:40

I could do with a lockdown every few years to have a break from other people and visiting extended family etc. But I wouldn’t want the fear, the briefings, the deaths alone and all the other awful stuff again. Probably easier just to have more boundaries about social engagements and decline a few invitations!

JohnTheRevelator · 16/08/2024 03:59

I wouldn't be complying, that's for sure. Fuck that. Especially after reading a few weeks ago that the lockdowns reduced covid deaths by 0.2%.

BubblyAva · 16/08/2024 04:01

I would cry.

UpTheMagicFarawayTree · 16/08/2024 04:06

I'd lock down again, if needed to protect my family. I'd probably be told to go into work anyway though as I'm now a 'keyworker'.

Joystir59 · 16/08/2024 04:07

NorthernGirlie · 15/08/2024 23:01

It won't happen but I'd love it. Ds would too - we remember Covid lockdowns fondly.

Well as long as you are happy....some of us sustained life long scars during lockdown. Not being able to be with my wife who died of cancer, for example. Lockdown was dreadful.

bonzaitree · 16/08/2024 04:22

I don’t think anyone would comply again … the lockdown card has been played for the flu. When something worse comes along we’re screwed.

OpalBird · 16/08/2024 04:28

Differentstarts · 16/08/2024 01:03

You've literally described covid lockdown you was still allowed to go out just not to populated places. I took the kids on walks everyday during lockdown. But that was for a disease that mainly killed the elderly and vulnerable if this one kills kids then no the garden would be as far as I would take them. I would protect my children at all costs but I really don't think its actually going to happen but this is what social media does it creates scenarios and people believe them then panic unnecessarily

I don't believe it but walks around the neighbourhood don't cut it for us. So in the hypothetical situation of another lock down, not complying.

Newnamehiwhodis · 16/08/2024 04:31

Relieved. I am exhausted

OpalBird · 16/08/2024 04:31

Perpetuallydaisy · 16/08/2024 01:35

Where I live, no one I know complied in that they certainly didn't follow the 1 hour a day rule. Everyone (at least, people who were off work or wfh, it was really hard for key workers having to keep going through it all) was excited having London free of tourists and traffic to enjoy. They still complied in that they made sure they kept a big distance from other people and stayed in quieter places, wore masks, etc., though.

When I say I'm not complying I mean I am driving close to an hour away, to isolated and rugged wilderness, and spending as much time as I like there. We never complied with the masks because we went to the kind of areas you almost never saw anyone. At most we wore a mask under out chin and pulled it up when we passed the 1-2 people who had a mask on. If they weren't wearing a mask, we didn't bother and they didn't seem to care. We really just pulled it up for those who obviously were more comfortable with it. Too hard to breathe when really full on walking.

LunaNorth · 16/08/2024 04:32

Honestly?

Delighted.

Everybody would people are just all talk especially if it was a disease that killed children. People on this thread make me laugh I wouldn't comply because of my mh as it means i cant go out but don't think their kids being dead would effect their mental health. But again I really don't think it will actually happen so I don't think its anything to worry about but it is a interesting topic for a thread.

If none of your kids are minors you don't have to worry about it then, do you? Strange some people on this thread seem to think at 18 you magically aren't vulnerable to something.

I believe that if the situation was severe enough, you wouldn't have to have lock downs as people will stay home of their own accord.

I know I wouldn't comply. I'd already decided with Covid that if we had another lock down, I wasn't complying. I'd already started pushing the boundaries at the end of the last one.

AimieDaisy · 16/08/2024 04:42

I live in a country that had one state in lock down throughout COVID, and the rest were business as usual other than a couple of 3 day lockdowns.

Ironically, the state which enforced the long term lockdown, that does not have the largest population density, was the state that endured the most cases of COVID and had the highest death toll, by heaps.

After witnessing that, I doubt anybody in this country would participate in a lockdown again.

People became very cautious about trusting authorities, politicians and any sort of medical advice after the pandemic, and that was even before hearing about vaccine side effects and untrustworthy governments that do not follow their own rules.

So no, I believe the majority of the population would not comply.

notacooldad · 15/08/2024 23:23

Lockdown changed me in a positive way.
I'm not sure it would be as impactful if it happened again.

Can you say what those positive changes were

stopscrollingandgettowork · 16/08/2024 05:02

I don’t know.

if we had something that could seriously affect us, I would comply .

it’s very easy to say the government made a mess of it, but they too were always one step behind, and reluctant to lockdown because of money . I do wonder where the people who completely slate the government over lockdown keep their crystal balls?🔮

I see the damage that Covid did to our family (if only mildly) weight gain (hush Joe wicks ) interrupted schooling .

I also see it now with children coming into school that can hardly talk (or even better, talk in an American accent because they were raised by YouTube ) and a massive range of other needs , that have increased massively in the last two years reception intake.

we personally had some great quiet days at home , did lots of fun walks with our bubble - but not everyone had that great experience.

What a load of tosh.

Can you share the source please to name and shame them?

MumChp · 16/08/2024 05:21

I worked as a nurse during lockdowns. If so happens I leave healthcare. Never again.
