If we suddenly had to go into a 3 month lockdown again, how would you feel?

I think people would definitely comply. If it was Mpox I would want a smallpox vaccine as it's somewhat effective.

I don't think, knowing what we know now, that's we'd need a lockdown. Effective masking allows us to go about most of our business.

Why wouldn’t you test for Covid?

Because they think they are some sort of rebellious hero maybe? The rest of us can see them for what they are.

Perpetuallydaisy · 16/08/2024 01:30

I'd be quite happy, because it was so peaceful and much less stressful. I think it would be easier with DC older, so I wouldn't be so exhausted and stressed trying to do everything. I could work from home and it would feel like a holiday on my days off. It would be amazing to have all those empty streets and parks and I have more time now to enjoy them with DC. Most people I know loved lockdown, DC thrived on homeschooling and too much screentime.

That's ignoring the anxiety and concern I'd feel for others who weren't so happy with lockdown, though!

I enjoyed lockdowns but I wouldn't comply. My son's mental health couldn't handle it. I'm not saying I'd go to populated places because I wouldn't. I have someone medically vulnerable in my household. But I do have to find a way to get my child out or it's going to get really ugly for him. So I wouldn't actually care about a lock down myself, but wouldn't comply as a caregiver.

Where I live, no one I know complied in that they certainly didn't follow the 1 hour a day rule. Everyone (at least, people who were off work or wfh, it was really hard for key workers having to keep going through it all) was excited having London free of tourists and traffic to enjoy. They still complied in that they made sure they kept a big distance from other people and stayed in quieter places, wore masks, etc., though.

And ignorance is bliss...

I don't think it will happen but if it did it would not bother me. I achieved quite a lot during lockdown and appreciated not having to see people :-).

That’s an impressive range of spells.

Get the military to shut down motorways etc, its achieveable, as they have those powers for a state of emergency.

overall it is what it is if it was lockdown 3.0

Everybody would people are just all talk especially if it was a disease that killed children. People on this thread make me laugh I wouldn't comply because of my mh as it means i cant go out but don't think their kids being dead would effect their mental health. But again I really don't think it will actually happen so I don't think its anything to worry about but it is a interesting topic for a thread.

I can guarantee you that I wouldn't comply.

I regret complying with the covid lockdown. I regret getting two vaccines. I regret not seeing my elderly parent for months. Same elderly parent was going to the local for a couple of drinks every week.

My child was seriously ill and hospitalised (not due to covid but did test positive for covid when in the hospital) and DH and I were supposed to nominate one person to stay while the other didn't go into the hospital at all. I realised then how ridiculous it was and stopped, threw out the nonsense masks, and went about my business as usual including going to the hospital (where I did mask in order to gain entry). I had covid twice that I'm aware of - the first time I tested positive, I reduced but did not stop going out to the shopping centre/supermarket. The second time I tested I threw away the stick and pretended I hadn't. After that I realised there was no point in testing again and threw out any remaining antigen tests
So no I wiill never comply with another lockdown or do further testing, vaccines, masking etc.

because during a national emergency under the laws in the uk, all traffic on eg motorways etc is restricted to military and emergency services, plus its one method to limit the unnecessary travelling of the public, if there was to be lockdown 3.0 Civil Contingencies Act 2004.

fridaynight1 · 16/08/2024 02:01

Not everyone suffered in the last lockdown. I have SPD and no noise is fine by me. However, I do understand that not everyone likes silence or staying indoors.
No traffic, no traffic noise, no people, deserted streets - for someone like me who struggles with sensory overload it was lovely.

My initial reaction is oh fuck off no way. But once that wore off I realised I would comply. Nobody wants their children to die.

I loved lockdown, prob because me and my partner still worked from an office so we had some routine, with lots of downtime and everywhere was soo peaceful

This makes me feel so angry.
The government paying people to have a lovely time at home.
I was angry about furlough at the time, and I'm even angrier about it now. As in really, really angry about it.

What would you prefer, that everyone lost their jobs? (through absolutely no fault of their own)

I wouldn't do it.

Chucklit · 16/08/2024 02:38

Ha! Look at the riots. The vast majority will never agree to lock down again. The country has slid into balaclava chaos unchecked for years but it's only recently been highlighted.
That can't even be dealt with. Another lockdown would be widely considered as a joke with no one to enforce it.

lonelywater · 16/08/2024 02:40

NorthernGirlie · 15/08/2024 23:01

It won't happen but I'd love it. Ds would too - we remember Covid lockdowns fondly.

fondly? Are you on glue?

ViciousCurrentBun · 16/08/2024 02:42

We did comply last time and we would comply even if we didn’t like it. If there is another lockdown in our lifetime or even in another who knows what rules regulations and punishments could be rolled out.

OldCrocks · 16/08/2024 02:42

I had a reasonable lockdown experience with Covid but would find it tougher if it happened again now as I'm more isolated and more vulnerable financially. I would comply though and I suspect most people here would too if a disease with a 10% mortality rate were sweeping through the community, however much bravado there is now.

That said, I think it's highly unlikely to be as transmissible as Covid. Aside from sexual or intimate contact, the WHO have said it's most likely to be transmitted through sustained social contact, i.e. within households, particularly where people are sharing bedding, towels, etc, rather than, say, interacting with someone in a shop. I'm not an expert in this field but I would be surprised if lockdowns become necessary in the UK, other than perhaps very localised quarantining of linked people.

So personally I'm not worried, even though it looks horrible and I absolutely don't want to catch it!
