If we suddenly had to go into a 3 month lockdown again, how would you feel?

I think people would definitely comply. If it was Mpox I would want a smallpox vaccine as it's somewhat effective.

I hated covid lockdown I had a job where I had to work from home no furlough as banking/ mortgages the amount of work we were asked to do went through the roof because people were scared because they didn’t know how to pay bills a lot of self employed no furlough for them. My employer didn’t care about it’s health of employees. In fact they made huge departments redundant moved offices adding to the pressure along with home schooling. My neighbours had a blast immeadiate furlough they were out in the garden all day night music blaring like it was a giant holiday for them. I wouldn’t comply it wasn’t worth the economic cost which our country is still suffering

BatshitCrazyWoman · 16/08/2024 05:38

My mental health was in tatters after the last lockdowns (I live on my own). My father died (old age) and we had a tiny COVID funeral while the Tories were partying. I don't think I'll ever be the same again after that, so no, I wouldn't comply.

CalicoPusscat · 16/08/2024 05:42

It wouldn't make much difference to me, I'm isolated as it is. It's a carousel of hospital appointments.

How2024 · 16/08/2024 05:44

I would comply because this version of M Pox does not sound like something you would want to ignore.

But I would not find it easy at all - I found the first covid lockdown hard to cope with and had bad anxiety every evening for some reason.

timetodecide2345 · 16/08/2024 05:45

I would cope but would be worried for my 18 year old daughter as she developed agoraphobia in the last one. She has overcome most of it but it would send her back there again.

It won't happen but I'd love it. Ds would too - we remember Covid lockdowns fondly.

I presume neither of you lost your jobs and were left with no income

It wasn’t just the Tory party. A lot of people were because the Covid rules made absolutely no sense

CalicoPusscat · 16/08/2024 05:51

@BatshitCrazyWoman that's so hard, sorry 🌸

LittleLantern123 · 16/08/2024 05:57

No one in my family/social circle would comply with another lockdown.
I really don't think there would be enough societal pressure to make it work again.

Wombbaalaa · 16/08/2024 05:58

I can’t quite imagine it but I’m amused at the people saying they wouldn’t comply with restrictions. I mean for example, if you hear in October that three kids in your child’s class have monkeypox, are you sending them to school? 😵‍💫

Mespher · 16/08/2024 05:59

Differentstarts · 16/08/2024 01:12

Everybody would people are just all talk especially if it was a disease that killed children. People on this thread make me laugh I wouldn't comply because of my mh as it means i cant go out but don't think their kids being dead would effect their mental health. But again I really don't think it will actually happen so I don't think its anything to worry about but it is a interesting topic for a thread.

A lot of us haven't got children, though if people with children kept them in it would make it better for people like me to go about their normal life

Copperoliverbear · 16/08/2024 06:01

I would do it, loved it, so peaceful outside and the streets were clean and the air come to that, we saw mountains we hadn't seen for years due to not so much pollution in the air.
Lovely. X

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 16/08/2024 06:04

The problem with lockdown was that it was all so unequal. Lots of people on furlough (or even full pay) had no money worries and admit it was all great to be paid and not have to work. Others had to work on the front line and endure all the stress that came with it. Even more couldn't work but had no pay/furlough available to them and lost so much.

And that's just the financial side of it all... families couldn't see each other. Elderly relatives left to fend for themselves. Children locked away. Many people struggling with their mental health.

All while Boris and his friends raked in the cash from bogus orders and partied till they dropped.

There is no way that people will observe the rules of a lockdown again.

Hoglet70 · 16/08/2024 06:04

I was very fortunate that I had a 'good' Covid and it was a nice time for us. Easy to say I'd do it again. I appreciate others weren't so fortunate and would be appalled at the idea.

WhiteButtonMoon · 15/08/2024 23:12

This makes me feel so angry.
The government paying people to have a lovely time at home.
I was angry about furlough at the time, and I'm even angrier about it now. As in really, really angry about it.

So you think millions of people whose jobs can't be done from home should have just had no income for months?

It's not their fault they couldn't work!

What a stupid comment.

Zanatdy · 16/08/2024 06:04

Well I’d hate it but I’d comply. At least this time people couldn’t walk around with it pretending they didn’t have it given it’s a visual disease. It is quite scary to think it could become a pandemic.

I’m sure the teachers union would force the schools to shut. There is nothing amusing about lockdowns

I'm so sorry to hear it was so awful for you. I'm very sorry to hear about the impact on your dad's funeral 😔
I think it did a number on the mental health of far too many people.

I'm kind of the opposite. I have mental health issues, and I'm possibly unusual, but lockdown actually really helped my mental health. All social pressure gone. Social distancing was great for my OCD. Financially it was terrible for me, as I'm self-employed, and sometimes do low temp wage jobs in between to fill the gaps. Lost all my work for weeks. But, then again I didn't need to spend much. Overall it was a welcome break from daily pressure. But, I still think it was a shame it happened. The fact it was good for me, doesn't eliminate the fact that it was horrific for many, and did irrevocable damage in some cases, including possibly yours.

With hindsight, lockdown and many of the rules, as well as all the vaccine bullying etc, was an overreaction to Covid.

In a way it's like the boy who cried wolf. If M pox is much more serious (I know nothing about it) a lockdown might be a more appropriate response. But, once bitten twice shy, people might not believe the narrative this time. Or whenever a much more serious virus emerges, if M pox isn't the thing that needs lockdown, another virus will probably emerge at some point that does. I think it'll be a symptom of climate change and dense population sadly.

No but I wouldn't restrict what we do from home. I'm getting out and about.

camelfinger · 16/08/2024 06:09

I think it would bring out the worst in people. They would cherry pick the nice bits of lockdown to endulge themselves in their little bubble and fuck everyone else. There would be an expectation that the supply of goods and services would continue as normal, no NHS appointments cancelled and everyone would want to be at the front of the queue for everything because they, like many other people, have a vulnerable relative. I can’t see it working now, unless it was marketed differently and people stayed home out of choice.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 16/08/2024 06:12

"So you think millions of people whose jobs can't be done from home should have just had no income for months?"

That was the problem though, there were millions of people who couldn't work from home that didn't get any financial assistance during lockdown. I was one of them and it was horrific. I almost lost my home and was on the verge of a breakdown. So it's very hard to hear people say how great it all was and what a fun time they had drinking their way through it all with their neighbours. Financial support should have been given to everyone.

SpiritAdder · 15/08/2024 23:19

For the record, I would comply with any lockdown.
Studied enough plagues to know that they do work and those just going about like normal are only going to win a Darwin Award.

plumvioletrose · 16/08/2024 06:26

I think an awful lot of people are making presumptions about getting furlough cash again. There is zero fucking chance this government will pay it, especially seeing as they could slap the blame on the 22billion blackhole in public finances that conveniently appeared the second they took office. They don't have a reputation of being the "nasty party" to disprove so I don't see how they'd feel the need. Labour is in the business of collecting money, not handing it out.
Pensioner ice pop, come winter, anyone? Although, suppose they could type a few "wrong think" words on X if they fancied the warmth of a prison cell for a year or ten.

M pox has been doing the rounds for ages. I work in an A&E and have seen quite a few cases over the past coulple of years. We won't be locking down

Was it cured?

Doggymummar · 16/08/2024 06:36

We thrived during lockdown so would love it
