If we suddenly had to go into a 3 month lockdown again, how would you feel?

I think people would definitely comply. If it was Mpox I would want a smallpox vaccine as it's somewhat effective.

Do I get 3 months off work paid again? If so yes please.

I didn’t mind lock down - lovely hot weather, played with the kids, read books.

But I had a job that could t be down from home, but now have a WFH job so it wouldnt be as much fun.

Lockdown was awful for loads of people.
Brilliant for me. Life was so much easier working from home. But I saw the effects it had on school kids. And I don't think we cud do it to them again unless it literally was the plague.

PrettyPickle · 17/08/2024 20:08

Ex NHS worker here....|I wouldn't like it but I would fully comply as I am not selfish and its not just about you, its about those around you too.

CocoCarrie · 17/08/2024 20:11

UK - The people who make the rules from the last lockdown were incapable of following them so they can hardly tell people to do the same thing a second time around and by the time they decide to lockdown, it will be too late, yet again.

ColdWaterDipper · 17/08/2024 20:14

I would comply - I am immunosuppressed from cancer treatment, and I would hope the schools would be shut too. Covid lockdown number 2 didn’t work because schools remained open, lockdowns 1 & 3 were far more effective. My husband and I both worked during Covid and had the children at home, so it was stressful but also amazing to spend the time together. Particularly the first lockdown - I was very very poorly with Covid at the start and so we really appreciated that long summer as a family. Lockdown 3 was easier in some ways as I wasn’t working due to having chemo but harder because I was having chemo!

I wouldn’t relish the prospect of another lockdown but they do work, and I would want to keep myself and my family safe.

BlueFlowers5 · 17/08/2024 20:15

I'd comply. Even govt parties wouldn't prevent me adhering to a lockdown.

Meh, so long as it can be for Dec/Jan/Feb I’d be happy, 😃

No thank you .

The winter lock down in Jan - March 2021 was the worst and I'm not sure how everyone got through it TBH. It was bearable when we could still do the outdoor activities - meet up in our gardens or a beer garden.

Anyway - I like to get away for some winter sun during those months !

(A bit jokey, a bit serious)

A lockdown will not happen. Especially not after recent events

Elphame · 17/08/2024 20:16

I would not comply

Rhaenys · 17/08/2024 20:19

It wouldn’t bother me but I don’t think it will happen. I don’t think monkeypox is airborne is it?

TaraEhm · 17/08/2024 20:19

As a medical editor and educator, I would hope people would take it seriously. These decisions aren't made lightly and are for the safety of all, particularly the most vulnerable. It's no time to be selfish.
How would I feel? As disappointed as the next person at having to press "pause" once again. It will happen; it's not a question of if, but when. It isn't something being "done to us" by nefarious governments. Pandemics have always been cyclical and with travel they will spread farther and quicker. We have the means to combat them if some people didn't have endless mistrust in anything but conspiracy theories. The faster we get it under control, the shorter the inconvenience of lockdown.

Was it that long? I don’t remember that. Just the initial long one from March 2020, then mini ones in October 2020 and December 2020 that covered Halloween and Christmas.

icelollycraving · 17/08/2024 20:21

I’d bloody love it if I was furloughed again. It was the only time we had spent time as a family really. Dh and I have always split our holidays so we aren’t often together with Ds. I often feel utterly burnt out. Dh is vulnerable due to health which wasn’t the case for Covid so he’d be able to shield.
I’m an introvert so it was heavenly for me.
All of that is not to say I don’t respect or have empathy for those who lost loved ones in Covid.

NAndJIsLockingDown · 17/08/2024 20:21

Indeed, and it seems like that "when" is now.

Ask single people Plus those up in Leicester

Blanketenvy · 17/08/2024 20:22

I mean it depends what it was for and how significant the risk was. Everyone saying "I wouldn't comply" I'm sure would comply if there was a really high r rate and a really high likelihood of death particularly for children/young people. So for a generally mild viral illness that's not easy to contract no I wouldn't comply, for something a lot of degrees more awful than that I 100% would.

You keep saying this but it would totally depend on the virus, another Covid style one killing the over 80s? nope few would comply but one that attacked all of us, airborne, a 20% mortality rate and making everyone who caught it very ill and we'd all be screaming for long LDs, you included.

I’m single and don’t know anyone in Leicester. Did it have its own special lockdown?

Last time I was a key worker so had the structure of being at work …..
My job now would be from home and my mental health would struggle I’m sure :(
My dad has recently been diagnosed with dementia and I’d struggle not being able to support my mum . Think I’d have to move in with them !
Doesn't bare thinking about - a repeat lockdown I mean !

OK i will bite How do you think some members of the public will react if we are locked down for this while boats are still pitching up from possibly infected regions?

I live near Leicester, and no it did not.

I can't work from home and I got a lot of jobs done during the last lockdown so that would be nice... not so sure a lot of people who know 'enjoy' working from home would be so happy though, since they will still have to work.

Peakpeakpeak · 17/08/2024 20:26

It certainly isn't the case that they're made for the benefit of all. They're made for the benefit of those vulnerable the government of the day chooses to prioritise, which is not the same thing. In the case of covid, there was in fact no way to protect all the most vulnerable. Because they weren't one single cohort, they were different groups with different and sometimes opposing needs. And lockdown makes some people actively less safe. That's the nature of the choice, unfortunately.

Which is why the 'selfish' stuff stopped washing a while ago. There's a greater understanding now of the reality that with covid, as with any case where lockdown might be considered in the future, some people would be taking one for the team in order to benefit others.

Errr yes they were only out of lockdown for three weeks in the summer of 2020
b. single people wernt allowed to see or bubble with anyone for four months.
c. Lockdown 2 was November 2020 not October. October was when the tier system started. There were three tiers. Until 19th Dec when tier 4 was announced because they didnt want to call what they did that Christmas a lockdown.

People keep saying what you're saying here too. It's been pointed out now on this thread loads of times that in a situation this dangerous, basic societal functions would not be happening. A virus that attacked every single member of the population, killed 20% of us and made the rest very ill would mean we'd run out of food and order would collapse. We wouldn't be screaming for lockdown, we'd be screaming for food.

There is an interesting discussion to be had about what might happen with a 'Goldilocks' virus like covid was. But these doomsday scenarios aren't the way to have it, because we'd just be completely fucked.

This makes me feel so angry.
The government paying people to have a lovely time at home.
I was angry about furlough at the time, and I'm even angrier about it now. As in really, really angry about it.

Even more angry than the money spent on PPE that couldn't be used, or that "tracking system" that crashed because the government wouldn't use the one created in the EU? Personally, I am much happier to have my tax money spent on supporting individuals in dire circumstances than to line the bank accounts of Tory donors.
