If we suddenly had to go into a 3 month lockdown again, how would you feel?

I think people would definitely comply. If it was Mpox I would want a smallpox vaccine as it's somewhat effective.

I’d be OK if I could see my DD and DGCs but have health issues and don’t go out much anyway!

crostini · 17/08/2024 19:21

I wouldn't comply.

I didn't hate lockdown last time.
But I have two kids these days and I wouldn't let them miss out on their lives and become isolated and sad.

It won't happen anyway though.

twinkletoesimnot · 17/08/2024 18:57

@llizzie
Children definitely did (and do) catch and spread Covid. Saying that they didn't was rubbish spouted to keep the schools open for as long as possible.

I agree with you that they did, but most had prior health issues, so I was lead to believe. Also, not all children were vaccinated in infancy, some because the parents did not, others because they were born abroad.

Darkstarrheart · 17/08/2024 19:27

As long as I could be in a bubble with my partner (who lives somewhere else) I'd do it.

custardcreme77 · 17/08/2024 19:32

No way. It’s rampant scaremongering again. Once bitten, twice shy.

Barbadosgirl · 17/08/2024 19:32

I would not comply. I would not have my kids lose another chunk of their lives. I spent, what, a year not seeing my dad properly and 18 months after the pandemic he suddenly died. 12 precious months I could have had seeing him. So much missed time. Not again.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/08/2024 19:33

I would hope that, if it becomes necessary, the authorities will produce advice that enables people to continue living their lives (masks, social distancing etc - not ideal but better than a lockdown), but that reduces the risk of them catching m-pox as much as possible. I think there should also be support available for people who are vulnerable/immunocompromised, who need to isolate themselves.

I would also hope that the authorities would use the systems from covid to roll out a vaccination programme asap.

I would stop going out - I barely go out anyway, because I have been badly affected by long covid, and am somewhat housebound - but I do go to a regular knitting group, which I would probably stop attending. I would worry that the long covid might make me vulnerable, so I would take the measures I could, to try to stay safe. I don’t think this is me ‘being a sheep’ or blindly following the rules - but I do accept that I am lucky to be in a position where I can stay at home.

Redglitter · 15/08/2024 23:04

We followed the rules last time. My Mum struggled last time not seeing family the way she's used to. I wouldn't dream of putting her through that again especially since she's 4 years older

Id certainly stick to some but not as strictly as last time

Edited

Agreed. Dad is now 93 so I'd have to think long and hard about not seeing him.

JenniferBooth · 17/08/2024 19:35

They wont be able to have a lockdown in this political climate It wont happen

themorninggirl · 17/08/2024 19:35

I complied in covid. I wouldn't be happy at all about doing it again, it's had massive impacts on both my 2 middle children, so I don't think everybody would comply at all. I am very cautious due to my nieces having CF and was heavily compliant before but seeing how it's completely altered their life, mostly to the detriment, I wouldn't be having that happen to my 2 year old or having them crash again, in fact I'm certain my 15 yr old wouldn't even get through another lock down.

HelloMiss · 17/08/2024 19:37

I'll carry on as normal!

My workplace will still expect me in ...

BettyBoo246 · 17/08/2024 19:37

It's worrying to see so many would still comply. Even though research/data now shows lockdowns had little to no effect and also caused more damage than it prevented.

Child abuse sky rocketed during lockdowns. For that reason alone I don't know how anyone could comply.

It's a close contact / sexually transmitted disease. Highly prevalent in the gay community. It's not airborne, it has symptoms (obvious ones) have safe sex, don't eat bush meat and you'll be fine. The legacy media will tell you otherwise though.

Stevie66j · 17/08/2024 19:37

Absolutely agree with every word .
Front line workers didn’t have this utter luxury!
To be so utterly insensitive to all who had to work through it , many losing their lives is disgraceful , self centred & shocking .
Many , who weren’t as fortunate as YOU lost jobs , homes & everything they had worked for !
Lend a thought to these people if you have any sense of decency !
You should be ashamed of yourself !

KeepinOn · 17/08/2024 19:37

The thought of it makes me want to scream, frankly. And I already WFH, have a big garden, etc etc

I'd rather not be held prisoner in my own home.

ItsAlrightDarling · 17/08/2024 19:39

One thing is for sure, I will never again let a government dictate who I can have in my own home, that I pay for.

Namechanged1001 · 17/08/2024 19:40

I work in health care so my life wouldn't really change much. My kids still went to school and I had to work whilst others sat on their arses and got paid for it. The difference is I went home worried about passing things to my family and friends so I stuck to the rules. Others didn't. And it pissed me off then and it still pisses me off now. People wouldn't do another lock down or covid rules. Too many people standing too close even now and breathing down people's neck in queues etc. We've already had the majority of the population who have forgotten what covid was truly like. There would be an uproar if people's 'liberties' were taken away again.

taxguru · 17/08/2024 19:41

Pointless talking about it because the covid lockdowns will never happen again. The country can't afford it for a start. People wouldn't comply. No way will people get paid for doing nothing again. We shouldn't have had the lockdowns we suffered last time - the whole thing was illogical and badly managed. We'd have to hope that politicians, scientists and medics could come up with better ways of controlling and managing a pandemic rather than just telling everyone to stay inside and throwing cash at them to make them comply. Got to hope that the shit show of Covid has made the "planners" come up with better ways of being prepared etc so that we don't run out of hand gel, masks and gloves like we did las time!

MrsMrsD · 17/08/2024 19:44

I'd love a lockdown right now. Got loads of stuff that needs doing around the house and life laundry to do.

BestBeforeddmmyy · 17/08/2024 19:45

I would definitely comply. Having managed to stay alive with Stage 4 Cancer the last 5 years (when I didn’t think I would manage a year) I would lock down again. No doubt about it.

Daffodi1970 · 17/08/2024 19:45

I wouldn’t comply & I have autoimmune health issues. I certainly wouldn’t be taking another of their vaccines either! My sons mental was effected so bad from lockdown his last year of school & then 6 form. My husband & eldest worked all the way through & got no thanks for it. No ta. Good luck with them controlling society again when they can actually do more to control the spread but it’s all about controlling the masses then bringing in their 15 minute cities, digital ID & a cashless society & they do it by fear!

MiniBeesMum · 17/08/2024 19:45

WhiteButtonMoon · 15/08/2024 23:12

This makes me feel so angry.
The government paying people to have a lovely time at home.
I was angry about furlough at the time, and I'm even angrier about it now. As in really, really angry about it.

I was a supply teacher on a long-term placement during the second lock down and ended up furloughed. The school I had worked in for 3 months took the opportunity to cut costs anddropped me (1st lockdown I was in a different school and remained in the rota for keyworkers children and was paid). It literally saved me financially and as soon as schools reopened I was back to work and off furlough. I'm extremely grateful for that 8-10 weeks.

My taxes since then (due to career change) have more than paid for my few weeks on furlough.

The furlough scheme was a rare instance of me thinking that the Conservative government did something right. The alternative for people would have cost the country an awful lot more.

I agree. Next time it will be down to personal responsibility. Those who want to avoid it due maybe due to being immune compromised will have to protect themselves, with minimal help. They can't expect everyone else to suffer to protect them for a second time.

My OH has cancer, he's severely immuno compromised. He has been taking his own precautions ever since 2000 (in fact he took precautions before then by being compromised). He doesn't go anywhere crowded, only goes to indoors places when they're quiet, etc. I do likewise so I don't catch anything and pass it to him. I have my own business and stopped seeing clients for two years in person, and still severely limit client meetings only to those absolutely essential - if thing can be sorted by phone, email or Facebook, then that's what I do instead of clients coming in my office. We have weekly shopping delivered and buy most things online so we don't have to go into shops except when absolutely necessary.

That's what a future pandemic will look like for people with health conditions, elderly, etc. They really can't expect others to put their lives on hold for a second time, nor suffer the financial consequences of the govt spending hundreds of billions to pay people for sitting on their backsides.

justfirthisboard · 17/08/2024 19:47

You'll never get me locked down again. I'm spending time with my grandparents and no one will ever stop me again

AgileGreenSeal · 17/08/2024 19:49

I most definitely would not comply.

fool me once…

BennyBee · 17/08/2024 19:49

I predict a riot.
