If we suddenly had to go into a 3 month lockdown again, how would you feel?

I think people would definitely comply. If it was Mpox I would want a smallpox vaccine as it's somewhat effective.

I'd do it if I really had to , but last time I was absolutely on my own the whole time and I think it changed me in some ways. It wasn't all bad but it was very very different. I would rather not but will if I really must. I don't want monkey pox!

loulouljh · 17/08/2024 18:01

Like it was the utter farce we went through before...

Well if there is a one in ten mortality rate as is being suggested with this type of mpox, then we'll be locked down again if significant numbers get infected in the UK. How many dying people could we cope with? And children particularly vulnerable this time too.
This brand of the disease is airborne and more transmissible it seems. So we can only hope this crisis can be be contained.

Mortality rate is nowhere near that. Over 16000 cases and less than 500 deaths. Don’t be hyperbolic.

I would want a whole sight more info than we had before. There was a possibility to sign up for the daily covid emails, but I don't think it was well advertised that people could do that.

We had left the EU, but still tied to their regulations until 31/12/20, and that caused most of the problems at the start. One of the first daily emails the government sent out was that it was illegal to manufacture, sell, distribute or give away free, PPE including masks which did not have the CE certification mark.

As far as I know, there was no public announcement about this. The NHS managers may not have replenished their stocks, thinking we had left the EU. All PPE which was not certified was removed from sale. Millions of masks and other items were available online, on sites like eBay without certification, and suddenly they were banned. China manufactured most PPE including masks, but they did not realise the UK was tied to the EU until the end of the year.

All the PPE available had to be given to the NHS to 'save it'. There was no certified PPE available to care homes. They could not even be given masks, because it was against EU Regulations. Thousands of care home residents died. Many also died because they were discharged from hospitals into care homes whether testing for covid or not. I know this.

When younger people started to die, searching for a vaccine was urgent. For a long time only the elderly, all around the world, were affected.

We never discovered why children did not catch covid. Some people recogned that their immunity was connected to the infant immunisation programme, but we were never informed.

We still don't know.

gamerchick · 17/08/2024 18:22

Make no odds to kr, I'd still have to go to work. Like I did the last time.

OptimismvsRealism · 17/08/2024 18:22

I don't think most Mumsnet users are at any substantial risk of "mpox" btw

This makes me feel so angry.
The government paying people to have a lovely time at home.
I was angry about furlough at the time, and I'm even angrier about it now. As in really, really angry about it.

I agree. Taxpayers are paying for it now. Those on furlough got 80% of salary. Was that taxed, or was the 80% after taxation?

Potsnpotz · 17/08/2024 18:27

I wasn’t furloughed and worked two jobs throughout the pandemic but genuine question for those seemingly angry about it- what was the alternative to furlough?

Well I think people might not go out pretending they didn't have this virus....

It was 80% before tax.

ETA we also paid NI and our pension contribution out of that 80% which on an hourly wage of £10.90 at 100% meant there wasn't a lot left.

moonbeam3 · 17/08/2024 18:36

is this lockdown going to happen again even if it did i would manage as im used to been inside anyway i have enough resources to get me through the dark days also i dont have a job so it wont affect me too much

Mandaxx25 · 17/08/2024 18:42

Anyone who still thinks covid was anything other than the flu repackaged and the vaccines were here to kill or implant things we definitely don't want is a complete fool that will end up having us all killed.
There are two camps: the utterly funking deluded and those who stand a chance of taking action before we're all under complete control or dead.

I think the numerous NHS workers would disagree with you, as well as all those who lost loved ones to Covid.

Well said. I know multiple people who died of covid, I was in hospital for 4 weeks with covid I nearly died this was 2 years ago I'm still suffering long covid.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 17/08/2024 18:47

Fucking awful because DH and I would still need to go to work and ds would suffer

Universalsnail · 17/08/2024 18:52

Depends what we are going into lockdown over.
I mean are we going into lockdown for Ebola or something with a huge mortality rate? For something that has a huge infant mortality rate? For something like covid?

I didn't stick religiously to the rules of the last lockdown. Whether I would stick to a lockdown or not would massively depend on a significant amount of factors. It's not a one answer fits all subject.

Replies like this are a big rediculous because an influenza pandemic is actually incredibly dangerous depending on the strain - the Spanish flu outbreak was devastating.

twinkletoesimnot · 17/08/2024 18:57

@llizzie
Children definitely did (and do) catch and spread Covid. Saying that they didn't was rubbish spouted to keep the schools open for as long as possible.

CherryPie01 · 17/08/2024 18:59

I would enjoy it as much as the first round of lockdowns. Just hopefully there won’t be as many deaths / that was the scary part, watching people you look after die from that virus. A care home I worked in a year before CoVid, saw 75% of its residents lost to that virus. No thank you. Bring on the lockdowns!

I’m sure those locked up with their abusers will be happy to hear you say ‘bring on the lockdowns’ 👍

If we went into lockdown again for 3 months..I sound be delighted.i sure would treat it different and do a lot more for myself and my family..I wouldn't be such a grump and had show my family that I do love them even so I don't always show it..

HarrietsweetHarriet · 17/08/2024 19:11

I'm astonished at some of these selfish comments. Is that really where we're at as,a society?
I complied with the lockdown rules before. DH and I were both keyworkers during the pandemic so in the thick of it. We had all the vaccinations as did all our family and friends. We lost 4 family members including two parents.
I now have cancer (which I didn't at the time of the Covid pandemic) so I would have to be extra-careful. I no longer work and would hope that DH and DD could work from home so we could form a support bubble.
Hopefully with a more competent government in power plus the experience of last time, things might not be as bad.
I sincerely hope it doesn't happen,

Isometimeswonder · 17/08/2024 19:11

This seems like a scaremongering post. What's the point?

But what were people working in fields considered non-essential meant to do? If businesses were closed they were closed and you couldn't expect their staff to just live on fresh air until they reopened
I worked from home as I am employed by the Local Authority but a cousin who has a job in a theatre was furloughed (her job entails organising group tours which obviously weren't happening; I really can't see how she could have worked)
