If we suddenly had to go into a 3 month lockdown again, how would you feel?

I think people would definitely comply. If it was Mpox I would want a smallpox vaccine as it's somewhat effective.

I’d love another lock down.

Not mpox. Obviously. That sounds awful.

But another lock down would be lovely. Can we have it in a glorious summer again please? That first one was great.

Yeah really great. People's mental health nose diving. People being unable to visit dying relatives in hospital so they die alone. Previously independent older people losing their mobility and confidence. Having to choose " the lucky ones" who can attend funerals to stay within the numbers. Posts like yours make me absolutely furious 😡

I'd love it. I've got 3 weddings in the next 2 months that I have to attend(family so no wriggling out of it) and I'm dreading the inconvenience and cost of them all. A lockdown to get me out of them would go down nicely.

So many fucking selfish responses on here. Me me me. Perhaps all those looking back so fondly on lockdowns should do some research on the damage and devastation caused by the last lockdowns.

But hey, getting out of weddings. Yay!! Let's hope the poor bride and grooms who have been planning their big days don't catch wind of you gleefully hoping for lockdown to get out of celebrating their big day.

Zow · 17/08/2024 13:36

@sandrapinchedmysandwich 100% agree with you.

Also, if you don't want to go to someone's wedding, then don't f**king go! Hmm

Imagine wishing for the country to go into lockdown so you don't have to go to someone's wedding.. smh! Confused

I’m sorry if any of that affected you, but I think you’re aiming your fury in the wrong direction. Maybe take it out on the people who made those decisions, rather than those of us who also followed the rules, but actually quite enjoyed the slower pace for a while.

InkyPinkyPonky24 · 17/08/2024 13:41

I don't think anyone is wishing for a lockdown, I get the impression they are saying that if it did happen, they would enjoy it and make the most of it.

DancelikeFredAstaire · 17/08/2024 13:46

How would a lockdown help? If someone had Mpox it would be fairly obvious and they probably wouldn't be out anyway.

ETA No I wouldn't comply with another lockdown because I'm not stupid enough to want to get close to anybody with weeping blisters all over them.

Exactly. I’m getting worried that the lockdowns have flipped a switch in some people’s heads, making them think that this is the go-to solution for any novel disease.

Mpox most likely should be dealt with the same way, roughly, that we’d handle a smallpox outbreak: temporary ban on travel out of the region, and crushing the infection chain quickly using ring vaccination.

I think a lot of this is about competitiveness. Same with the stuff about “It was so nice not have to run around taking the kids to 12 extra-curriculars!”

This obviously begs the question, “Well, why not just cut down on all the bloody extra-curriculars anyway and do fewer of them?”

And if you ask this, you’ll get coy responses. Because the real reason why people won’t cut down on things like taking kids to extra-curriculars is because they perceive it as giving their kids a competitive advantage over other people’s kids. They don’t feel “able” to cut down unless everyone else is cutting down at the same time.

Wishitwasstraightforward · 17/08/2024 15:06

@Peakpeakpeak thank you for your post. I'm even more angry about the way that I was treated wrt furlough now, and you are right WRT the logic behind it.

The knock on effect to my life has been huge because the total lack of income created debt and repossession.

Nailed it!!

I seriously doubt we will have another lockdown in this political climate

Nadeed · 17/08/2024 15:30

There won't be a need for a lockdown. At most we will get some nurseries or schools closing for a few weeks if there are cases from kids attending. It will be more like the meningitis outbreaks we occasionally get.

@BurntBroccoli

"Have you seen the symptoms? Awful weeping sores and huge raised lumps across the face and body.
I definitely think people would if it started to spread."

The point is that because the Government called "wolf" on Covid, no one is going to comply with restrictions or lockdowns on the next pandemic regardless of how much more dangerous or lethal it is - quite simply because no one will believe anything the Government says.

That is until they see with their own eyes or have first hand experience of people getting ill or dying - but by that point especially with a highly contagious disease it will be too late and any restrictions or lockdowns will be pointless.

HRTQueen · 17/08/2024 15:34

vast majority of people would not comply

the government know this so wouldn’t bother trying to implement it neither can we afford to do it again

Yes I did say on here that they shouldnt use all the publics goodwill up on one virus.

Would you still say survival of the fittest if your loved ones were not the fittest?

One thing the government should absolutely prioritise if it ever happens again is keeping the schools and other services for young people open. It has had a detrimental effect on them and that can't be repeated! Also not trapping young people in student halls and letting them home to their families. Also letting close families members meet in general.

I don't see a lockdown happening but I hope if it does lessons have been learnt.

If it did really happen (which I hope it won't) there's no way that schools could be open safely if it's passed by touching each other / surfaces.
You cannot social distance in a primary school.

sixtyten · 17/08/2024 16:53

Our Prime Minister is incapable of defining what a woman is, I highly doubt he has the competence to oversee what will be a highly complex logistical operation.

For crying out loud. It's so tiresome to see the gender debate being shoehorned into every single discussion no matter how irrelevant.

NannyGythaOgg · 17/08/2024 16:57

Absolutely NO WAY.

ItsAlrightDarling · 17/08/2024 17:02

If I was locked down with my disabled child who needs to get out for a large portion of the day to avoid him being violent and destructive, I don’t know what I’d do to be honest. We’d be better off catching MPox.

Yes.

No one is locking down for the sake of others ever again.

Id probably touch my face a hell of a lot less if this shithole of a country belived in air comditioning Our local buses not only dont have it, They have the heating on in AUGUST Lost count of the times ive had to wipe off the sweat on my face with the back of my hand.

Swiftie1878 · 17/08/2024 17:39

Nope. Wouldn’t do it.

This makes me feel so angry.
The government paying people to have a lovely time at home.
I was angry about furlough at the time, and I'm even angrier about it now. As in really, really angry about it.

Of course what we don’t know and never will know is how many people were infected and died before their time because of people who refused (or who were unable) to abide by the lockdowns.
Enough died as it was.
