If we suddenly had to go into a 3 month lockdown again, how would you feel?

I think people would definitely comply. If it was Mpox I would want a smallpox vaccine as it's somewhat effective.

We do know the results of failure to lock down - Sweden:

g. However, the available data on excess all-cause mortality rates indicate that Sweden experienced fewer deaths per population unit during the pandemic (2020–2022) than most high-income countries and was comparable to neighboring Nordic countries through the pandemic. An open, objective scientific dialogue is essential for learning and preparing for future outbreaks.

I’m always amazed how those numbers always seem to go in the direction that works for the person (either Sweden did better than anyone else or worse…)

Personally I think it’s irrelevant.
What is more relevant is the number of people with LC. And the increase in disability fir the country.
Something we won’t really know the impact of fir another few years.

But more to the point, Mpox is VERY visible. It leaves many scars. And it’s extremely painful.
Regardiess of previous lockdowns etc… if it was actually becoming an epidemic in the U.K. (or europecetc…), I think people would take a very different attitude. You can’t ignore it because it sort of looks like a cold like covid is.

It was heaven for us! I had to go to work, no traffic on the road, peace and quiet in the office. DH was furloughed so we ad a beautiful garden and he did loads of painting and decorating, and all the housework. No social pressures. Can we have another one without a pandemic please?

No thank you. It was a nightmare for many of us

Same.
The people who loved lockdown can just lockdown themselves right now. Why does it take a law to make it so?
Because a law will also affect the people who barely made it through last time. But yep, "I'm all right, Jack".

NowImNotDoingIt · 16/08/2024 22:38

@XenoBitch I think there's a difference between saying "yes I would comply" and actively wanting a lockdown.

BurntBroccoli · 16/08/2024 22:40

@Abracadabra12345
Yes the noise from furloughed neighbours partying day and night while I was trying to work was a nightmare.
A million garden building projects with power tools added to the misery.

My kids absolutely hated the online lessons and being isolated from their friends. I'm sure my daughter hasn't quite recovered 4 years down the line.

This! I don't wish for a lockdown but if it did happen then yes I would comply.

Incakewetrust · 16/08/2024 22:45

We had a lovely lockdown! DH got some very rare time at home with me and the kids and we spend the spring/summer relaxing and making memories.

Saying that, I know full well it would be different this time. DCs were 6mo and 2yrs then. Now that they're 5 and 6, they'd go mad being in all the time.

I'd probably isolate to a degree but I'd still see mine and DHs family.

Blankfaced · 16/08/2024 22:45

God. I LOVED lockdown. All of them. I think back fondly on my own personal experience (appreciate for others it might have been hell). However, it’s very 2020.

Also MPox isn’t ‘it’

Loved lockdown tbh i would feel relief

Why?

BakewellGin1 · 16/08/2024 22:48

Absolutely never again.

Oldest son's Mental Health has never fully recovered and secondary school experience has been difficult due to first.2 years being blighted by lockdowns and lack of social contact

My relationship breakdown was largely due to us being at opposite sides of the world.
I then spent the full time isolated with two young children and no real support.

I did not receive the appropriate care to recover as expected from a traumatic birth and as a result will live with the issues forever.

The only positive was spending more time with youngest. I only worked 'in work' for three months of his first 2 years.

wateringcanface · 16/08/2024 22:48

If it was rampant and the mortality really was between 3-10% then I would comply, as would most people I believe. Though I don't know if that statistic applies to western countries.

WhiteButtonMoon · 15/08/2024 23:12

This makes me feel so angry.
The government paying people to have a lovely time at home.
I was angry about furlough at the time, and I'm even angrier about it now. As in really, really angry about it.

Do you think people should have been left destitute instead through no fault of their own?

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 16/08/2024 23:02

If its a disease with a high mortality rate amongst the young and fit, you can bet your house on people locking themselves down. Govt or no.

namechangeforthisi · 16/08/2024 23:06

First case in Pakistan. I think this s going to be a pandemic. It won't last long because we'll all get a vaccine within months but it will be scary

Twoshoesnewshoes · 16/08/2024 23:09

Yeah I’d love another short lockdown.
I’ve got lots of decorating to get on with and my garden is looking good.

I’m not getting any vaccine thanks!

RubyWinehouse · 16/08/2024 23:13

Wouldn't bother me, but I won't be having anymore jabs

spicysamosahotcupoftea · 16/08/2024 23:22

I would love a lockdown in respect to not having to see people (relatives etc)

But I wouldn't comply with not going out. Fuck that.

Firefly1987 · 16/08/2024 23:24

I would get an Mpox jab quicker than a covid one-assume you don't need multiple ones unlike covid, they've been around longer (if the old ones all work on this new version) and probably have less side effects. Mpox looks very nasty and painful. I ran out and got the chickenpox jab when I thought I might've been exposed through my mum getting shingles (never had chickenpox before) and that was a worrying couple weeks. This is obviously far worse. I don't see why the reluctance when I assume most people are vaccinated and get their kids vaccinated for all the normal illnesses?

NAndJIsLockingDown · 16/08/2024 23:56

Purplturpl · 16/08/2024 19:40

Apparently the r value of mpox is about two to three. Which is really quite high. For every one person infected , up to three more will catch it. That’s pretty high rate it will spread

Even worse - the R number of the old Variant was 3.1, the current Variant is known to be more transmissible.

OpalBird · 16/08/2024 23:56

It's going to take a long time to produce enough vaccine for everyone. We won't all be able to just go and get a jab tomorrow if it takes off. But no more lock downs. I don't personally mind, great chance to do some garden projects, but I know plenty who do, so I won't be complying with the not going out part of lock downs.

Where will you go because everything will be shut

Oh no I hoped it at least wasn't really contagious

The great outdoors. And not just locally.

Differentstarts · 17/08/2024 00:03

Have people actually seen what it looks like I'd never leave the house again if their was a chance of catching this

If we suddenly had to go into a 3 month lockdown again, how would you feel?
