In A&E - keep me company

Thisreallyhurts · 15/08/2024 22:23

Skidded and came off my pedelec bike, landed on my leg and elbow. There is a hole in my elbow so decided it needed A&E. After being triaged I've been sent to Minor Injuries. Anyone want to keep me company? I am not good on my own and would also much rather be in bed than here...

Update: I need to stay in so the orthopedic consultant can have a look tomorrow and decide whether it needs a deep clean in theatre, although the registrar seemed hopeful that wouldn't be necessary. If I were to go home now I'd have to do the whole A&E - triage - admission pathway again so I'd be here all day tomorrow...

Ouch. You’ve done a proper job with that. Fingers crossed you don’t have to stay in.

I’ve had two admissions through MTU in the last few months. Any interesting patients to people watch?

Totally agree on it not being a good place for distressed patients though. Curtains are not sound proof.

RafaistheKingofClay · 16/08/2024 00:27

X posts. Boo. But better to stay in and get it sorted properly if you need to.

Ledci · 16/08/2024 00:42

Oh no you poor thing. Do you have anything with you or anyone who can bring something?
Although I suppose you just thought it would be a clean and patch job!

KnackeredmumofanAlevelresultskid · 16/08/2024 00:47

Oh no! That's not what you must have been expecting at all. I hope you manage to get comfortable and get some sleep too!

CalicoPusscat · 16/08/2024 00:49

Do you have anything on you aside from phone and charger? At least it's only one night, hope you get some rest

Thisreallyhurts · 16/08/2024 00:55

I brought my teddy bear as I was feeling fragile😳 DH made me take a blanket as well, and I have my headphones and all the chargers I need. Hopefully the nurses will have some ear plugs...
But nope, not what I was expecting at all! It doesn't even hurt that much more than a bog standard graze and I still have no idea how I managed to do it, as there's hardly any damage to my coat or clothes. Youngest DS's nursery is opposite the hospital, so DH will bring in supplies tomorrow morning after he's dropped kiddo off. I am a bit worried about my boys, as they often get into our bed and will definitely notice if I'm not there☹️ I've asked DH to carefully consider what he says to them

Still in a cubicle in MU waiting to be admitted to a ward. The strip lighting is working wonders for my headache...

Hope you're feeling better soon, OP. My two (too big) boys are currently in my bed and I'm teetering on the edge. I'm sure your DH will look after yours!

Awww! We regularly all end up in our bed. Big one sleeps like a log and is fine, little one thrashes and kicks and twists and is generally a pain to share a bed with.

Another update: the orthopedic registrar was slightly horrified when I told him my leg hurts and was adamant that needed an X ray. Have had that and am currently having my IV antibiotics. Still not on a ward though and slowly giving up on getting any sleep...

OP posts:
PoopedAndScooped · 16/08/2024 03:55

Looks like it may need a wash out in theatre and potential for IV Antibiotics to atleast begin with?

PoopedAndScooped · 16/08/2024 03:56

Cross post - Glad they have started IV antibiotics

Hope they have a bed available on a ward and you arent on a trolley or worse a chair all night

Thisreallyhurts · 16/08/2024 04:09

Still on a chair, but at least it's a comfy one! Not loving the lights here though...

I have always thought triage sounds like the name of a bandage. Idk why, I have just been admiring the perfectly circular holes you managed to make in yourself. Do they bring you snacks when you are unexpectedly in for a long time?

GnomeDePlume · 16/08/2024 04:22

I'll keep you company.

(the dog and I have synchronised bladders, if one needs a wee in the middle of the night so does the other)

Whereabouts in the Netherlands are you from? We lived just outside Rotterdam for 5 years.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/08/2024 04:30

I can chat, too. I'm in Vancouver and it's 8:30pm. Neither dc are keen to sleep and alternate crying to keep me on my toes. 🤦‍♀️

GnomeDePlume · 16/08/2024 04:46

@Mumtobabyhavoc that does not sound like fun! My baby days are long gone but I remember well long nights with a colic monster.

Natsku · 16/08/2024 04:52

Ooof those are quite some holes! Hope you manage to get some sleep.
I fell off my ebike once (pedal assist too) but luckily it was winter so I was so bundled up in winter clothes that they cushioned my fall somewhat and I only got a bit bruised and shaken, and thankfully the child seat on the back kept DS safe - he was perfectly fine apart from being scared. Had to be helped up by two little school girls on their way to school though!

Yeah, the holes are a complete mystery! Barely any damage to my clothes and I was on a tarmac road, not a gravel track as the shape would suggest! No offers of snacks, although I'm sure they'd be available if I asked. They have given me a nightie and ear plugs though!

Finally on the ward now. Ward rounds in 3-4 hours, so FX I'll be able to go home after the

@GnomeDePlume Lucky here that neither suffered that. 😅 But, I've not been good about keeping to a bedtime schedule, so the past 55 mins are of my own making. 😂 Baby just fell asleep. I'm scared to get up to check on toddler for fear of waking baby. 😂

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/08/2024 04:58

@Thisreallyhurts missed your post. 😊 At least you've got a bed. I'm guessing a 4 person ward? Think you can get some sleep? Any sense what your roommates are like?

HelenWheels · 16/08/2024 05:22

that's good you have a bed

Any chance of a photo for sporner corner, or would it be too gory?

Edited to add: you poor thing etc (shameful attempt at sympathy and compassion)

Edited

Love this!

Hope you're OK OP.

K0OLA1D · 16/08/2024 05:31

Have you had your xray results from your leg?
