In A&E - keep me company

Skidded and came off my pedelec bike, landed on my leg and elbow. There is a hole in my elbow so decided it needed A&E. After being triaged I've been sent to Minor Injuries. Anyone want to keep me company? I am not good on my own and would also much rather be in bed than here...

This made me laugh! I daren't take the dressing off just yet because when the original plaster came off it started bleeding again... But I am quite the sporner myself so when I get a chance I will!

Blatantly joining and offering sympathy in order to follow thread and await photos

How are you getting home afterwards? Hope you've got tea and snacks.

Uber. YY to snacks and water (don't do hot drinks in the evening)

I hope you haven’t got too much longer to wait. I think midweek overnight is probably the quietest time to go surely. Although you don’t really get a choice with many injuries anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

X ray done, waiting in MU for the verdict. I did think I was glad it didn't happen earlier in the week when it was so hot - no BBQ injuries here tonight.

There's a young woman here who is very distressed. She looks like she has self-harmed and has anorexia. She wants to leave but apparently can't. She is crying "you said I could leave!" On repeat. It's very upsetting to hear. This is the thing I hate about hospitals, you can never completely escape other people's distress.

OK you vipers, here's the pic!

I have the tiniest fracture (the size of a pen tip) and the preliminary plan is a sling and ABs.

Ugh, just heard the doc say you can see the bone 🤢

I'm here to offer sympathy and to wait with you. I hope you get sorted quickly and it's not too painful

(A level results day today and I'm too wired to go to bed)

Done2much · 15/08/2024 23:35

hope you get home soon - and heal quickly!
just saw pic, ouch 🌻

Haggisfish3 · 15/08/2024 23:35

Yes I know what you mean. And their mortality.

Mumdiva99 · 15/08/2024 23:36

Wow - they are impressive holes. 👏 Hopefully you don't have long left as you now have the diagnosis.

KnackeredmumofanAlevelresultskid · 15/08/2024 23:37

Oh ouch OP!
Well done for being able to take that picture!

Wahine24 · 15/08/2024 23:38

Ooh, how did your child do??? Hope they got everything they wanted! I'm a teacher but didn't have Y13 last year so not been watching it too closely.

That looks a bloody bugger!

Ouch. Look like they are deep too. Maybe they'll steri-strip them to stop them bleeding.

Overheard doc saying you can see the bone. Not sure I needed to know that TBH...

Woah. That's a proper hole. I hope they patch you up ok.

Are Dutch cycle paths really as good as legend has it? I love cycling but I'm crap at hills. I have a half baked idea to take the DC on a cycling holiday in the Netherlands.

Karmaisac4t · 15/08/2024 23:41

ooooft that looks painful! Hope your not feeling too much pain and get a decent nights sleep when your home op!

PoodlesRUs · 15/08/2024 23:42

Wahey! Thank you for the picture, so glad I checked a final time before bed!

Oh and eh terribly sorry you had a fright, hope it heals well and soon etc :D

spiderlight · 15/08/2024 23:47

You've done a proper job there!! Looks so sore. I hope you're bandaged up and on your way home soon.

Yes, they're everything you've heard and more! And the country is flatter than flat, it's ace for cycling! I have a pedelec here because I am fat and hate hills but love cycling. Not homesick anymore now!

OK, someone from orthopedics has just had a look and a poke and it hurt and now I'm really pissed off with the (w)hole situation! He even mentioned something about possibly keeping me in, depending on what the on call consultant says. NFW am I staying here!

Ooh poor you! I whacked myself in nose with my car boot but it’s not too bad. I hope it’s not too busy for you.

Ah man, car injuries are the pits! Are you sure you're OK? FIL slammed the boot door on MIL's head once, it was very bloody apparently. Still a bit shocked they didn't go to A&E

Oh dear OP. Hope you get sorted soon.
Was sat there the other night with my friend after she came off her motorbike taking a corner too narrow. She actually got back on and made it to my house which was closer than hers but was black and blue and I insisted on taking her. Poor thing she was shivering with the shock, I couldn’t get her warm.

Oof! I hope she's OK! Adrenaline does weird things to you! I got back on my bike after a bit as well and didn't start properly crying until I was home.

I was in A n E recently for an incision and drainage of an infected sebaceous cyst. Normally a minor procedure where you expect to be in and out fairly quickly. Unless you're me. Had the procedure done by about 12md. Stood up to go home blood on my jeans and the hard plastic chair. Back in for the another dr the so called wound expert Dr to insert a wick in the wound. So far so good. Got home after collecting more antibiotics from the pharmacy. Wound starts bleeding again. Lay down on my bed and put pressure on it. Got a bit worried when it's not stopping. Called an ambulance. Got even more worried when thr ambulance guys couldn't stop it and blue lighted me to the hospital. Original Dr is still there and looking after me! Luckily his senior is on duty and immediately orders an adrenaline wick for me. Lovely experience with no local anaesthetic😭. Finally got home at about 10pm. Warfarin is a complete curse but primary hyperparathyroidism is a complete curse😢.
