Some people have hilarious names for the telly remote

In our house it was the Zapper or the Button Presser

My nan called it the Wobbler

Bobbotgegrinch · 14/08/2024 21:37

My cousin's always called it the dit dit.

In our house it's usually the "jobby". Although right now I keep calling it the "Buffy Bringer" to wind up DD. (She loves Buffy but has been putting off watching the last few episodes because shes convinced people will die and crying is anathema to a 16 year old.)

I love this thread. I was so shocked when I went to a friend's house as a teen and we were watching TV and his dad said "pass me the commander".

I wonder if that friend grew up to become my husband. He calls it a commander too! I thought it was really odd but now I say it and so do our kids!

It was a doobury in my house growing up.

OldTinHat · 14/08/2024 21:40

I'm also a doofer-er.

As I recall, it's short for hoofer-doofer from Noel Edmonds' telly addicts and was what I grew up with. Luckily DH grew up the same as my DC are now doing.

StepAwayFromGoogling · 14/08/2024 21:47

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 14/08/2024 21:50

Always refer to it as the telly squirt, commonly abbreviated to the squirt Don't know why 😆.

Mickeyanonymouse · 14/08/2024 22:07

We call it 'the panel', as in the remote control panel. Does no one else call it this????? I thought it was pretty normal! It was the 'mote troll' for a while when kids were young.

We must be boring then..,the remote 😄

Same here 😅

KeirsNewJob · 14/08/2024 22:10

Ours is known as the mice & pigeons. My boyfriend (now husband) reckoned that pigeons flew to my ancient telly and told the mice that powered it what channel to change to. 😂
