I thought you were actually looking for a lost violin... 🤔

EllenLRipley · 14/08/2024 14:15

Child rapist claims to be a victim of bullying. It's extraordinary isn't it?

Astonishing, hey? One wonders if they being deliberately ironic.

Cocolapew · 14/08/2024 14:17

I can't get over he's married to a police officer.

AwkwardAadvark · 14/08/2024 14:20

I can't get over that he has a child

VisitationRights · 14/08/2024 14:21

Poor diddums.

DARVOing bastard.

Westfacing · 14/08/2024 14:24

If he'd been half a decent man, when the news came out about his background of raping a 12 year-old girl, knowing her age, he would have withdrawn from the Dutch team to save the girl unnecessary stress.

But he's not even half decent and decided to just brazen it out.

I'm all for criminals turning over a new leaf but do it in private and have some respect for their victims. Why is he giving interviews and creating even more publicity?

TooFirty · 14/08/2024 14:27

Why on earth would you want a convicted peedo representing your country. I've visited the Netherlands many times and loved it but I'm seriously judging them now. They didnt even make him complete his sentence, apparently raping kids is not that big of a deal in the Netherlands?

Ick

BuccoA · 14/08/2024 14:29

Ah the poor wee rapist. 🎻🎻🎻

TruthorDie · 14/08/2024 14:30

When did mentioning previous criminal convictions etc become bullying?! I can’t believe his partner plays with him, he’s married to a police officer et of they have a child?! I wonder if they decided to have IVF to pick having a boy?! So many grim questions

TomatoSandwiches · 14/08/2024 14:31

Makes me sick

blacksax · 14/08/2024 14:33

Oh dear. How sad. Never mind.

Gettingbysomehow · 14/08/2024 14:34

Sorry no sympathy for you you big cry baby. Any idea what consequences are?

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 14/08/2024 14:37

The great thing about his arrogance in going to the Olympics is that it’s brought his crime to a much wider audience and he will now never not be knows as child rapist Steven Van De Velde.

i was at his first match in Paris - we booed him and left the stadium, and by his final match so many people knew the story he was being booed on every serve.

sunlight is a great disinfectant and he asked for it.

my thought are always with his victim and her family however, who must find constantly seeing his name and face so disturbing.

I can’t believe that a working police officer is married to a child rapist. Aren’t there standards they’ve got to meet?

That man is a nonce and I don’t expect any decency from him. I’m appalled at his teammates and those that support him.

I wonder how the other parents he meets at pick up etc feel about his crimes and preferences.

Allowing a convicted paedophile to compete. Another good decision by the IOC.

SaintHonoria · 14/08/2024 15:07

He deliberately targeted a 12 year old and groomed her online before coming to the U.K. and giving her alcohol before carrying out his heinous plan.

I've seen 15 year olds that could pass for being 17/18 but I've yet to see a 12 year old that looks remotely 'adult woman-like'.

The man is utter scum and he's not remorseful, he's just sorry that he got caught out and now he thinks that anyone who criticises him is being unkind to HIM!

Vile piece of crap.

AccountCreateUsername · 14/08/2024 15:08

Wonder who sponsors him? The problem is there doesn’t seem to be much disgust at his actions in his home country. He’s been representing the Netherlands for a while.

I imagine his crying on TV is because he realises he is viewed as someone toxic and untouchable for sponsors. I certainly never want to see his face on TV or media ever again.

Flatulence · 14/08/2024 15:20

He is a disgrace. What he did - travelling to the UK specifically to meet a child who he knew was 12 and then raping her multiple times - is disgusting. He then only served a quarter of his custodial sentence.
While people can change, his self-pity and failure to understand why people are so disgusted by him suggests that he shows little to no remorse for his crimes. And regardless, if you commit an utterly egregious crime then why would any country want you to represent them in a sport just a decade later. He should have been banned. Horrible, horrible paedophile.

All these people, from several different countries, united in jeering at him. Yet he still thinks himself the victim.
Glad the audience stood up for the poor girl.

NewName24 · 14/08/2024 15:33

Astonishing.

I hadn't realised that he had married a police officer.
I am surprised at the lack of checks.

I'm afraid the Netherlands is very "sex positive".

He was returned to the Netherlands from the UK in accordance with the extradition agreement that had brought him to face a court. His conviction for rape was adjusted to the conviction he would have had in the Netherlands, that of ""sexual acts that violate social-ethical norms". Until 1 July 2024, Dutch law only recognised rape if coercion through violence or the threat if violence was involved. So grooming a 12 year old girl and getting her drunk didn't count.

Pigeonqueen · 14/08/2024 15:44

All of this gives me the utter rage.

I can’t believe someone actually married him and had a CHILD with him! Wtf! He’s saying he’s worried for his child - well what about the one he raped! 🙄
