What one item makes your life a bit nicer?

I have just read a thread about making life easier. It's always meal planning and household appliances.

Anyway it got me thinking whilst having a shower... I love my Bluetooth shower speaker. Being able to listen to my own music in the shower is great.

I don't need it. I can obviously live without it but I really love that little thing!

I also have dogs. I think it's a given that animals and children bring joy.

You have to recommend something to make life nicer.

What are you choosing? Smile

A second, sporty car (Mazda MX-5) it's great fun for when I've not got the DC.

SheUltra · 09/08/2024 23:16

@Inthedarkkkk I have literally just finished it from Feb. I have just unwatched it so would need to search.

It's always the way where people start off with recommendations about label makers then descend into bickering about food waste caddies and cover less duvets.

I think sometimes people can't miss a chance to lecture about the environment. This means that the thread becomes a lecture about recycling etc and damage that 4x4s do.

I've slightly seen it here tonight about declutterring and the value of experiences over 'things'. I'm not disputing that, but I think it's really nice to learn about velvetisers and kindles and picture the joy that people get from these things in a mucked up world.

Dishwasher and tumble drier which both make getting chores done that bit quicker/less effort

Air frier which is used daily and so easy to clean

Egg chair in the garden and a glass of wine which is the most comfortable way to relax in the evenings

Google Home for white noise at night and music during the day. Easy and no faff.

And over the summer a fan in our bedroom.

Basically anything that gives me more time or allows my time to be spent more comfortable.

Chocolate.

Cliedi · 09/08/2024 23:18

Fridge with plumbed in water and ice dispenser. I never bothered with the faff of I’ve in every drink before

Cliedi · 09/08/2024 23:19

Air fryer also for when the kids need a quick dinner before whatever club they have to rush off to

My headband earphones. Joy every night listening to audio books.

Are they good then? Been looking at them lately as ear buds at night are very irritating.

DH

Charlotte tilbury magic cream.
It’s expensive but no other moisturiser comes close.
It’s the perfect texture and after putting it on my face feels 10x better, softer and smooth.

TheaBrandt · 09/08/2024 23:26

Hot tub. Proper one. Gone in it pretty much every day since November 2017

UnctuousUnicorns · 09/08/2024 23:26

A travel kettle in my bedroom. I take a lidded mug, with milk (I'm in Scotland; it never gets so warm overnight that I need to worry about it going off), sugar and teabag in, plus teaspoon, upstairs every night. In the morning I make a mug of tea, to drink before facing the world.

Also my Bluetooth headphones. I either listen to music, audiobooks or podcasts, or watch films on Prime on my 10" tablet, late at night, sometimes while knitting or crocheting by my night lamp too.

I also love my bookbag (I think I got it from Etsy); it holds two standard sized paperbacks, at least it has since I added extra press studs. It's essential to keep my books safe from the jaws of our dog. Plus it's pretty. 🙂

My big side-by-side/ wardrobe-style fridge. So much room in there that I can put everything neatly and see what I've got.

White fluffy towels - It's like being in a five star hotel. A little every-day luxury.

My big steam generator. Ploughs through everything - so much so that I actually enjoy ironing, EVEN super-king bedlinen.

Having a cleaner once a week. It clears my head when she's been.

Sage coffee machine
Gastric bypass surgery, quite possibly saved my life
My very old 4x4, had it over 15 years, love it
My ipad
My runner beans, producing just enough every other day for two of us

Waitrose free coffee with my lunch on Thursday (it’s a
non work day for me). I’m obsessed with it. I have a ritual with a certain cup, tray, travel cup combo and now its
the summer hols I do it more times a
week but doesn’t make me appreciate it any less. Blimmin love it.

anon666 · 09/08/2024 23:33

My car. Yes it's a 4x4. I never thought I
would get one, I feel such a hypocrite. But it was exactly right for 4 adults to comfortably travel long distances.

It's safe for the large amount of motorway driving I do. And it's not a gas guzzler but it's got a lot of power for overtaking on hills etc. It has clever driver assists like lane assist, auto braking in emergencies etc

It's completely changed my life. I drive places I'd never have gone. I am free, independent, I have gone far and wide in it.

My automatic Volvo XC60 SUV. Big,safe, tank. I love it.

I had a Volvo XC90 that died after many many years…I mourn that car.

I doubt I will get over the love I felt for its silver caring, practical loveliness.

Im not joking either

🥰Same! It’s the best.. I can’t even face Starbucks anymore as my sage makes it exactly how I want

You guys need to tell me how to make the perfect frothy milk!! Any tips??

HappyLittleNarwhal · 09/08/2024 23:38

Spotify. It's on for...maybe 12 hours a day. I would happily pay double what it costs, it's an absolutely indispensable part of my life.

ChishiyaBat · 09/08/2024 23:38

My 6 birds, 4 pacific parrotlets and 2 budgies. They are just pure happiness covered in wonderful coloured feathers🦜

Turophilic · 09/08/2024 23:40

Monthly coffee bean subscription. Egyptian cotton pillowcases. Raised vegetable beds in the garden.

CountessWindyBottom · 09/08/2024 23:40

Ooooh I love this thread because I'm all about about joy and comfort! 💕

I love luxurious bedding, good cosmetics and anything that smells nice. And of course my beloved Kindle because I read so much.

My new favourite thing is my Alexa powered bedroom fan. It is DIVINE. I am peri and it is the most wondrous thing to be able to say to Alexa to cool me down and she replies with a discreet little 'ok', Its powered by phone/remote control/Alexa and is so quiet but so powerful and cooling and just an absolute joy to have in my life.

hellywelly3 · 09/08/2024 23:41

Our lovely Harrison Spinks bed. More than I’ve ever spent on a bed before but so worth it.

Ginnnny · 09/08/2024 23:42

This is going to sound really fucking naff because I’m a parent and I’m about to give birth to my third child BUT! I have a hot water bottle in a dog cover that I’ve had since I was 4 I’d be lost without. Before I get shamed the actual hot water bottle part has been replaced many many times, it’s more about the cover. He - yes he - has a name and my DP and DDs will all say sometimes “will we get X for you” because they all know how much I love him. Yes, him 😂

JazbayGrapes · 09/08/2024 23:43

An air fryer and set of professional chefs knives.
