What one item makes your life a bit nicer?

I have just read a thread about making life easier. It's always meal planning and household appliances.

Anyway it got me thinking whilst having a shower... I love my Bluetooth shower speaker. Being able to listen to my own music in the shower is great.

I don't need it. I can obviously live without it but I really love that little thing!

I also have dogs. I think it's a given that animals and children bring joy.

You have to recommend something to make life nicer.

What are you choosing? Smile

My pond. Dug it with "help" from then 5 year old DS2 a few years ago - the plants surrounding it all look amazing now. It's teeming with dragonflies and tadpoles/froglets. Watching birds splashing around in it having a bath makes me smile so much. Loads more wildlife being attracted to the garden. I love sitting next to it weeding while honeybees come to drink ❤️

Cardamom pods, I add these to coffee and it's my favourite part of the day

Stardustmoon · 09/08/2024 23:52

What a lovely thread!

  • Audible subscription (audiobooks make cleaning the house so much more bearable)
  • Nespresso machine with milk frother. I look forward to having my first coffee in the morning.
  • Bath bombs
  • Dish Washer

My kindle too. I only have time to read on holiday so when I take it out, it feels like I am on holiday spending happy hours reading.

Lilyhatesjaz · 10/08/2024 00:01

My dehumidifier.
I can get the washing dry in the winter and much less mould on the walls.

Being out of a care home after 20 months and moving into my own place on Sunday. My bed is arriving tomorrow, an ottoman with all the storage underneath to keep stuff out of the way. No clutter in the bedroom, walk-in wardrobe/dressing room next door (okay, so it's just a teeny tiny room that I didn't know what else to do with, and also a conservatory, I say conservatory, but a decent space that I can use as a craft room and as somewhere to clean down the (as yet to get) rescue dogs when they come in inevitably wet and a bit mucky after a good walk.

Just getting out of the hell hole that is a care home after so long, honestly a cardboard box under a railway bridge would make life a bit (lot) nicer. I'm not even that bothered about "stuff" anymore as 99.9% of mine has been disposed of when my ex-family members thought I was going to kick the bucket and I wouldn't be around to mind!

I moved 250+ miles to get away from toxic family members and start my life again, it is the best thing I could have done and has made my life a helluva lot nicer in so many ways.

Superking size bed. I can’t believe that I put up with a standard double for most of 20 year marriage.

completely dark bedroom; I have an inner blackout blind, then a Roman blind, and finally blackout curtains. It’s bliss. Even in bright sunlight I can get the bedroom pitch black.

BettyBardMacDonald · 10/08/2024 00:11

Massage a couple times a month.

Heber · 10/08/2024 00:15

Chickens in the garden for fresh eggs. A raised bed for salad leaves and lettuce. A beautiful fountain pen and J Herbin ink. Essential oils.

Nice thread!

The view out of my window. I look onto hills I watch the seasons change, and the weather changing, I see migratory geese in the winter swallows and swifts in the summer, bats at night, the sun sets over the hills, I see kites flying, and my neighbours and I think occasionally a golden eagle. I watch the cows on the dairy farm, I know when they are turned out in spring that winter is finally over, I see young lambs skipping in the spring and they make me smile, in the winter the hills turn dark the granite outcrops turn black, in the spring they are covered in bright yellow gorse now heather is coming through soon the trees will change colour for autumn.
i used to dream of owning a house with a view and now I’ve got one it just makes me happy.

You write so descriptively!

I smile every time I walk up our stairs because it I got the beautiful tartan carpet that I wanted.
Also love the smell of the solid wood floor downstairs. We found these beautiful floorboards when renovating. They took effort, time and money to restore but are worth it. They are gorgeous.

Proper ground coffee brewed at home every morning. Life is too short for shit coffee.

Dark red nail polish on my toenails , all year round but specifically in winter. Only I see them in winter (+people I hang out with at home barefoot so basically my husband and the cat!). But it’s a nice reminder that I am worth being pretty for.

nice body lotion after a shower or bath.

Yes to all of the above.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 10/08/2024 00:40

Underfloor heating in winter, ti's bloody lovely.

My bottom of the garden gym, it's my ace space and I love it.

I had a Volvo XC90 that died after many many years…I mourn that car.

I doubt I will get over the love I felt for its silver caring, practical loveliness.

Im not joking either

When I didnt need my XC90 anymore and really couldnt justify the cost in terms of fuel and tax (OMG the tax!!) I sold it. And I cried when Sven left (for Sven was his name), I have never stopped missing him and he left 8 years ago.

VeganStar · 10/08/2024 00:44

My 65 inch tv in the living room. I bought it when I had some extra money that came my way out of the blue four years ago just when my eyesight started to get worse. It’s a joy not to have to squint these days.

My Ninja air fryer which we use daily.

…but my beautiful DD and my gorgeous little Chorky Buddy make them pale into insignificance 🩷🩵

You win this whole thread - wishing you so SO fucking well lovely x

KatheKollander66 · 10/08/2024 00:53

Mine is a KOOLi. It's basically a cold version of a hot water bottle. I have mild hyperhidrosis on my face, so it really helps with sweaty nose and face.

They (KOOLi brand) always have loads of people on their FB comments saying why would anyone buy one, just fill a hot water bottle with cold water. It's so good though! Could not live without it now.

One other thing I love is my various IKEA Kallax units. Strong, affordable, solid and store so much shit in a way I think looks acceptable in my house.

Wherearemymarbles · 10/08/2024 00:53

my music system, designed and made in England

Friendofdennis · 10/08/2024 00:54

My far infrared/ pemf /crystal heated mat which I sleep on at night. It reduces inflammation and pain and I couldn’t be without it now.

SloaneStreetVandal · 10/08/2024 00:56

My (latest) handbag 🙈😂 I'm a handbag addict. I love polishing and tidying it/them out. Then hanging up (I keep them on handbag hangers) and opening the closet door, at every opportunity, just to look at them 😅

I suffer with back pain, sometimes bad enough to have be signed off work, due to EDHS, would this help?! I have never heard of it and would very much appreciate any info x

Wine. Lots of it.

Viewfrommyhouse · 10/08/2024 01:04

My Qettle tap. I'll never be without one again.
