What one item makes your life a bit nicer?

I have just read a thread about making life easier. It's always meal planning and household appliances.

Anyway it got me thinking whilst having a shower... I love my Bluetooth shower speaker. Being able to listen to my own music in the shower is great.

I don't need it. I can obviously live without it but I really love that little thing!

I also have dogs. I think it's a given that animals and children bring joy.

You have to recommend something to make life nicer.

What are you choosing? Smile

My audible subscription and my borrow box.

I find it so much easier to do my housework and those boring maintenance jobs that you put off. But now I find a decent audiobook and I only air myself to listen to the latest book when I'm doing housework or driving. Never thought I'd be eager to do decorating or clean the bathroom but here I am with a house that's cleaner than it's ever been before and I've listened to books I never thought I'd enjoy. Is odd though, I would have swore 100% that I'd always prefer actual books but I love audio books so much and I feel very virtuous as it tricks my brain into thinking I'm multitasking. I haven't read a written book in almost 2 years.

Have you tried the Libby app? You sign in with a library subscription and you can listen to audio books for free

I love BorrowBox for audiobooks.

I got some little stainless steel tongues specifically for squeezing tea bags

I have quite a few things that feel like they make my life nicer. But off the top of my mind...

My bed. My DH and I invested in a rather expensive bed five years ago. It's SO comfy. I don't like sleeping anywhere else now, I just want my own super-bed.

I switched from a job in a private company last year to a public sector workplace. I hated being a private employee, but the one thing I figured I'd miss was the good coffee. Figured I could buy my own coffee maker for my new job. Half the department think I'm nuts, but it's SO great, coming into the office in the morning, switching my computer on, changing into uniform and making myself a fresh cafelatte. Makes my day!

Our retracting ceiling fan, it's amazing

If it's just one thing, it's got to be my kindle. I'm addicted. I do have kindle App on my phone which is great for when I'm out of the house , but I like that kindle is so much easier on my eyes .

A lovely feather and down duvet and good quality sheets! There is nothing better than going to sleep and waking up in a lovely little bundle of luxury

I second this!!!

A feather+down duvet and Bamboo sheets/duvet cover.
I've never slept so well in my life!!!

Fresh flowers

Stillthewrongsideof40 · 09/08/2024 22:17

Good quality mattress, pillows and bed linen.
coffee machine.
Rainfall shower.
My Anthropology wine glasses.
Money - Knowing I can put the heating or hot water on whenever I need to as I can afford it, I grew up in a home that was always cold and full of mold.
AirPods.
Decent running shoes.

pinkstripeycat · 09/08/2024 22:17

My garden. Does that count. I could sit out there all day. It makes me so happy

caramac04 · 09/08/2024 22:17

Tempur mattress and pillows - I have never had such a perfect pillow.
Dishwasher
My two dogs
Kindle paoerwhite

MerelyPlaying · 09/08/2024 22:19

My hearing aids.

I never thought I’d say that, I resented needing them, but they’ve been life changing. And I can listen to audiobooks and podcasts through them.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/08/2024 22:19

I think for me it would be our Volvo XC60 - my h didn't pass his test till 50 and we are now early 60s and on our 3rd Volvo - all those years walking and cabs. ( I still don't drive) it has made life more varied.if I'm honest

Close behind would be the Bosch washer and dryer , and the ability to afford to shop in M&S and Waitrose as I like cooking but also like good quality easy options.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 09/08/2024 22:19

That sounds lovely @NosnowontheScottishhills

NotALightPacker · 09/08/2024 22:20

My reading support cushion from John Lewis. I'm short and it makes our sofas much more comfortable to read on.

Also my kindle, used it every day for about 6 years.

5 drawstring bags so I can hang accessories and lingerie from the hangers when I set out my outfits for the week on Sunday night.

A kettle and cafetiere in the bedroom for early morning fresh coffee

gano · 09/08/2024 22:21

Nice bed linen. Good quality and high thread count. I don't live a luxurious lifestyle by any means, and I'm pretty frugal, but this is my one thing. I happened to buy some on sale once, and now I really struggle to sleep if I put bog standard linens on the bed.

Happyinarcon · 09/08/2024 22:22

This was expensive but my thermomix. I can’t cook and seem to have a mental block about cooking in general, but this machine allows me to cook some complicated meals by just adding ingredients and pressing a few buttons and dials. I would almost say it makes cooking fun.

Veryoldandtired · 09/08/2024 22:22

I’m so grateful for my ninja pressure cooker!

Scentedjasmin · 09/08/2024 22:23

I have a Zwitcher Box. It looks like a little wooden bird house and contains a motion sensor. When you walk past it (currently in the downstairs loo), the calming sound of bird song starts before gradually fading. It's very relaxing. 😁

Mirabai · 09/08/2024 22:25

Currently my Joseph Joseph Intelligent Waste Totem Max Bin, 60L in stone.

I look lovingly at it every time I enter the kitchen.

Who knew bins could cost so much or be so awesome?

Onlinetherapist · 09/08/2024 22:25

@SheUltra I think taking something away can often add more value/improve quality of life more so than adding items in. Eg decluttering.

rainbowbee · 09/08/2024 22:26

A good coffee machine. Very expensive pillows. Almond oil from L'Occitane. Lovely little luxuries that make the everyday a bit more opulent.

MassiveOvaryaction · 09/08/2024 22:28

This week it has been a mobility scooter. Rented while on holiday. Took quite a lot emotionally to admit I might need something but it's been a game changer, able to be out all day with the family and keep up.

whalesonthebus · 09/08/2024 22:28

Superking size bed - I saved for ages to get a really good quality mattress, absolutely love it.
