What one item makes your life a bit nicer?

I have just read a thread about making life easier. It's always meal planning and household appliances.

Anyway it got me thinking whilst having a shower... I love my Bluetooth shower speaker. Being able to listen to my own music in the shower is great.

I don't need it. I can obviously live without it but I really love that little thing!

I also have dogs. I think it's a given that animals and children bring joy.

You have to recommend something to make life nicer.

What are you choosing? Smile

Can I ask all the Kindle lovers how they find the quality of the downloads? I love my Kindle too, but find the classics (Brontes, Austen, Dickens etc.) read like bad translations and definitely getting worse. I used to like to alternate between new books and classics but have now pretty much given up on classics on my Kindle and back to Oxfam book shop.

My automatic Volvo XC60 SUV. Big,safe, tank. I love it.

I was going to say my car
i do a lot of miles on dual carriageway/motorway and recently upgraded from a little under powered Yaris to a mid size Skoda. It’s just so much more comfortable and makes my life a lot nicer because of the amount of journeys I do

Robot hoover - game changer Grin

FizzingAda · 11/08/2024 09:01

Well,I've just ordered a kindle clicker, I never knew they were a thing! Thanks!

zebranotzeebra · 11/08/2024 09:05

Cheeky panda toilet roll subscription

My byoma skincare products. First time I've ever stuck to a skincare routine

Frozen chopped onions, garlic and ginger

Clipper decaf teabags - best decaf I've found

My bath pillow - though I can't actually remember the last time I managed a bath! Must remedy that

FrenchFancie · 11/08/2024 09:10

My thermomix, and a subscription to the stupidly named ‘cookedo’ so it guides me through things. our holiday in 2020 was cancelled and the insurance payout paid for it.

i used to have a cold water dispenser and drank so much more water. It broke and we can’t afford to replace it but, in some distant future when we re-do our kitchen it will definitely be incorporated!

Good quality bed & bed linen. Diptyque soap - it just smells and feels so good! My little vintage caravan - I feel happy just looking at her. My Swatch Pay - people always look at me like I’m nuts when I tap a giant plastic watch to pay for things 😂 Manicures.

Rosejasmine · 11/08/2024 09:12

Tumble dryer - very boring, but means no clothes drying all over the house when it’s raining or when there is a very high pollen count (bad hay fever so can’t dry outside when it’s very high). Don’t know how I used to manage..

VickyPollard25 · 11/08/2024 09:27

For me it’s silk sheets and pillow cases. It feels wonderful. Especially against your face.

Can I ask which milk frother you have? I'm looking for one, but the last one I had was difficult to clean, ended up with lots of dried in milk around the whisk bit.

It’s the Nespresso Aeroccino (sp?) one. Can be a bit tricky with the whisk part but I use a washing up brush which seems to work!

  1. My absolutely gorgeous Suzuki Vitara. I never thought there'd be a good replacement for my ancient 4x4 Honda (I hate the new version), but my Vitara makes me swoon as I ogle it on my drive.
  2. My electric blanket
  3. My log burner on cold nights. Our sitting room was always freezing in the winter as it has suspended wooden flooring and narrow cavities in the 3 outside walls (our house is a weird shape). Now we light the stove and the room is actually warm.

They're wonderful little things really, ever so easy to look after compared to any other saltwater fishies. It takes a while for them to properly settle in and find their feet wings, for their personalities to come out, but they're right little characters when they get going.

They'll do little dance routines to show that they recognise you, and they'll do a different dance to show that they recognise someone else but know that it isn't you, to show they can tell the difference between one human and another.

They'll flash certain colours to signal "Hey, I know you, you're my friend! Look guys, this one's a friendly one!" and the others will mimic it to say "Yep, we trust your judgement Bob, she looks alright to us!".

Or nudge your fingers with their snout to say "I want to go on your hand like those ones are but I can't find anywhere to sit, can you make me a space please?". All kinds of stuff really - a seahorse snowball is quite a sight to see! We're really lucky to have them :)

Thank you for that. They sound incredible! I'm surprised you say that they are quite easy to look after, I always assumed that seahorses would be really difficult to keep. What a wonderful way to enjoy your morning coffee 🤗

Yes, I’ve ordered some nice gel pens mentioned upthread 😃

Yes me too! I've got an amazon order arriving today 😂

rc22 · 11/08/2024 10:45

My latest car. It has all the bits and bobs I thought I didn't need - heated seats, heated steering wheel, in built sat nav, reversing cameras - but make driving so much nicer!

Dishwasher.

Coffee machine.

SilkCottonTree · 11/08/2024 10:48

My one thing is Ancient and Brave collagen powder. It’s changed my life, I’ve been taking it for just over a year and my hair is now long and thick (it was thinning and wouldn’t grow past my shoulders and had never recovered after my last DC 7 years ago) and my joints feel 10 years younger :)

Arraminta · 11/08/2024 10:58

Powderblue1 · 11/08/2024 03:42

@Arraminta I use the chocoloco gold keratin treatment and have done for years. You can buy on Amazon. It's great, I repeat about every 3-4 months

Thank you. I paid over £200 to have mine done at Toni & Guy and I did think my technician wasn't doing anything clever! Just a lot of rinsing and drying etc.

But do you have the super hot straighteners?

SilkCottonTree · 11/08/2024 11:02

crockofshite · 11/08/2024 05:54

Is your velvetiser Hotel Chocolat?
My friend also has one and says the same, ie tepid.

My velvetiser broke recently so I got a new one that makes the hot choc much hotter than my previous one, so maybe the machine has been tweaked for the newer version.

You need to preheat the mug with boiling water from the kettle while the hot chocolate is being made. Keeps it warm whilst sipping. Otherwise comes out at drinkable temperature.

VimtoVimto · 11/08/2024 11:19

Mine are my Kindle, my Aeropress, my Smeg coffee maker, my special bowl that I bought from a potter in Iltaly and my American diner mug that I picked up from Chicago airport https://www.intelligentsia.com/products/diner-mug-chicago-flag I’ve since tried to order one for DH but the shipping is extortionate.

Diner Mug Chicago Flag

Add an homage to our hometown to your shelf. This 10oz diner mug features the Chicago flag on one side and Intelligentsia wings on the other.

The view out of my window. I look onto hills I watch the seasons change, and the weather changing, I see migratory geese in the winter swallows and swifts in the summer, bats at night, the sun sets over the hills, I see kites flying, and my neighbours and I think occasionally a golden eagle. I watch the cows on the dairy farm, I know when they are turned out in spring that winter is finally over, I see young lambs skipping in the spring and they make me smile, in the winter the hills turn dark the granite outcrops turn black, in the spring they are covered in bright yellow gorse now heather is coming through soon the trees will change colour for autumn.
i used to dream of owning a house with a view and now I’ve got one it just makes me happy.

I love my view too, not as wonderful as yours I think but I live by the Thames and have reflections from the river and the sight and sounds of birds and waterfowl all the time. Opposite we have a tree lined towpath and Kew Gardens, so changing colours through the years. So soothing.

Noooooo! It is made in China and shipped over to the UK. What's wrong with Andrex (made in the Uk)...does it not wipe your ass clean enough?

To be fair, I didn’t know that. As it’s heavily green washed that I thought they were better for the environment. I haven’t bought them though.

I’m so grateful for my ninja pressure cooker!

I love mine too, but don't find that the air fryer works as well as my old one so use both.
