What one item makes your life a bit nicer?

I have just read a thread about making life easier. It's always meal planning and household appliances.

Anyway it got me thinking whilst having a shower... I love my Bluetooth shower speaker. Being able to listen to my own music in the shower is great.

I don't need it. I can obviously live without it but I really love that little thing!

I also have dogs. I think it's a given that animals and children bring joy.

You have to recommend something to make life nicer.

What are you choosing? Smile

You need to preheat the mug with boiling water from the kettle while the hot chocolate is being made. Keeps it warm whilst sipping. Otherwise comes out at drinkable temperature.

I used to have to pre heat the mug with my old velvetiser, but the new one makes the drink hotter so I have to wait a bit for it to cool down, which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned :)

For me it’s a bean to cup coffee machine. We never have instant now and if we have it at a friends it’s like a pale imitation of coffee. A freshly brewed cup of real coffee in the morning is a pleasure.

it was expensive but if it broke, I’d buy another immediately without a moments hesitation

I love mine too, I'm on my third (had Nespresso previously) and rush to the shops as soon as the old one fails. I have paid for four year guarantees from the shop where I bought them and it seems that if they are over a certain age when they fail they simply give you £250 to put towards your new one.

Apple Watch - so I can go out without a handbag or purse and still pay for things!

audible subscription - makes the walk into work very enjoyable

Same as previous poster, blinds inside our bi-fold doors, and our Qettle boiling tap. Will look at a double egg chair for the garden next year! 😊

2 separate EU single mattresses in our super king size bed frame (just got them in the last month)

Now when dp turns himself over in the night it doesn't feel like he's throwing me up in the air like a see saw

He's 6 ft 5 and I'm 5 ft 6 and half his weight and it was really disturbing my sleep. Last night I had an uninterrupted 8 hours for the first time in months!

Sallyanne92 · 11/08/2024 12:29

To add another one my electric mattress cover, so lovely getting into a warm cosy bed on a cold night or after a shower

kittylion2 · 11/08/2024 13:49

I've got things in my Amazon shopping basket - ready to add more for my delivery day on Thursday.

Yes my machine also does it, as said it’s bean to cup, I just either press for cappuccino or latte or whatever or just go into milk menu so I can just add as much as is required by the person, it heats it up and then froths it.

I don’t drink milk and drink coffee black, but everyone who comes here wants cappuccinos/frothy milk. I’ve even got caramel syrup or cocoa powder to add if they want it. Feel like a bloody barista sometimes when I’ve a house full 😂. My female friends all know how to do it, and get their own, but the blokes seem to have some form of brain fart and stand staring at the buttons.

Yep! Everyone who comes round expects a ‘posh coffee’ now. fine if it’s 1 or 2 people, but if I’ve got family round, I can literally be stood there making coffees for 15/20 mins, I actually feel like I work in a coffee shop. No-one wants a normal instant coffee anymore (I don’t blame them really)

I’ve actually pretended to have no coffee beans left a couple of times as I didn’t want to spend 20 mins taking orders🤣

Proceed with caution! The amount of things (several on this thread) I've bought because MNers raved about them but which haven't worked for me/us is quite lengthy. Including Woodwick candles, I can't relax with them because they make it sound as though the house might be on fire.

dizzydizzydizzy · 11/08/2024 16:37

My cappuccino machine. My morning coffee is the highlight of my day.

HS1990 · 11/08/2024 16:40

My hubby refitted my kitchen tap to one of those extendable ones that you can detach and change to a spray setting. I didn't think much of it at the time but thanked him all the same.

Today, I stuck it out the window and the kids enjoyed a garden shower experience. It has revolutionised messy play in my house!

So happy I have it ☺️

Tumble dryer - very boring, but means no clothes drying all over the house when it’s raining or when there is a very high pollen count (bad hay fever so can’t dry outside when it’s very high). Don’t know how I used to manage..

Yes! When I moved it was either the TD or DW. Happy to wash dishes by hand but I will never be without my TD.

You have to stick with the collagen powder to get results, it was about 3 months before I could feel it working. I will never not take it now! :)

OtherS · 11/08/2024 18:03

Starting to reconsider about Volvos... I'd decided to go for Audi instead but they're getting an awful lot of love! Does anyone know how good the autonomous stuff is, I think it's called Pilot Assist on Volvo? I very much like the idea of my car trundling along happily without my input, especially in a traffic jam...

Being out of a care home after 20 months and moving into my own place on Sunday. My bed is arriving tomorrow, an ottoman with all the storage underneath to keep stuff out of the way. No clutter in the bedroom, walk-in wardrobe/dressing room next door (okay, so it's just a teeny tiny room that I didn't know what else to do with, and also a conservatory, I say conservatory, but a decent space that I can use as a craft room and as somewhere to clean down the (as yet to get) rescue dogs when they come in inevitably wet and a bit mucky after a good walk.

Just getting out of the hell hole that is a care home after so long, honestly a cardboard box under a railway bridge would make life a bit (lot) nicer. I'm not even that bothered about "stuff" anymore as 99.9% of mine has been disposed of when my ex-family members thought I was going to kick the bucket and I wouldn't be around to mind!

I moved 250+ miles to get away from toxic family members and start my life again, it is the best thing I could have done and has made my life a helluva lot nicer in so many ways.

@VeryHappyBunny I hope your move today went well and you are very happy in your new home x

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 11/08/2024 18:22

@hilariousnamehere thank you, have ordered the hare bottle opener. Such a cutie.

@Imatorturedpoet you need to wash the frother under running water whilst it's plugged in and turned on.
Or in a cup/container with soapy water.
Same as normal whisk, whisk it in a bowl of soapy water.

@zebranotzeebra which bath pillow please? I've gone through so many useless ones.

Another for me are faux flowers. I never liked the idea until I came across real looking ones that cost £how much!!!
Couldn't stop thinkong about them though and eventually splurged. They are great to look at, beautiful without being needy so no worries when away and no more paying so much for them.
Still have plants and occasional real flowers but these bring joy all year round.
I got mine in a sale though. https://shrops-design.co.uk/products/artificial-orchid-in-stone-effect-bowl

Also got proper special cutlery which we use everyday as well as on special occasions.
Gives me joy opening the cutlery drawer and get compliments on them all the time.

Artificial Orchid in Stone Effect Bowl

@writingsonthewall tell me about your shakti mat and why you love it. I keep getting adverts for them on Facebook so the algorithms obviously think it's my kind of thing, but would like to know why!

It's ridiculously relaxing. I often get tension headaches and a lot of neck and shoulder pain that painkillers don't do anything for.

I always feel better after a lie down on the mat. When you first lie down it's a bit ouchy but just relax into it and your back goes kind of warm after a while. I frequently fall asleep on it. Don't go for the "light version", I think just go for the original. You can always make it less ouchy if you need to to begin with by either wearing a t shirt or putting it on a soft surface to lie on.

LaughingElderberry · 11/08/2024 18:48

My houseplants and my garden. I love it when seeds germinate or cuttings take. I try and go for as many pollinator friendly varieties as possible. Seeing all of the bees and insects buzzing around makes me really happy.

My pond. We repaired and re-filled it when we moved in and it's a haven for wildlife. I love this time of day as so many birds come to visit. There are several very noisy starlings having a wash at the moment.

My dogs. All rescued cruelty cases. They have their own little quirks as a result and they can be hard work, but they melt my heart and seeing how far they have come when I know what state they were in when they first came to me, makes me so happy.

Lots of little things, but those are the main ones. Having set out to not buy anything, I am going to succumb to a kindle clicker as I also hate the touchscreen faff!

CollieDug · 11/08/2024 19:24

I think we need a new thread “things you have just bought because you just read about it on the life a bit nicer thread”

but bit would be deleted as a TAAT

but I’ve bought the Shakti mat and a woodwick candle.
