What one item makes your life a bit nicer?

I have just read a thread about making life easier. It's always meal planning and household appliances.

Anyway it got me thinking whilst having a shower... I love my Bluetooth shower speaker. Being able to listen to my own music in the shower is great.

I don't need it. I can obviously live without it but I really love that little thing!

I also have dogs. I think it's a given that animals and children bring joy.

You have to recommend something to make life nicer.

What are you choosing? Smile

My rollator. For those not familiar, it is like a walker, but with four wheels, hand brakes and a SEAT! I can lock my wheels, and sit down to rest when I need to do so. It lets me get out and actually take walks. After being pretty much house-bound for years, it is a game-changer!

My cooling blanket! It’s brilliant. Perimenopausal and summer heat and this is just the ticket!

Also my kindle. I can read at night with the light off, have several books loaded...

Agree. My kindle is the number one for me too.

My Kindle and wool mattress topper!

Harmonypus · 11/08/2024 00:01

For me, because I have MS and am heat intolerant, it has to be my ice making machine. I use it all year round and it just makes life that lurks bit more tolerable.

Is anyone else reading this thread and writing a shopping list🤣
@TheNuthatch it's taking me forever to read the thread as I keep going off to look up stuff that I've never heard of and didn't know I couldn't live without!😂

Yes, I’ve ordered some nice gel pens mentioned upthread 😃

Who gives a crap toilet roll on subscription Blush

Noooooo! It is made in China and shipped over to the UK. What's wrong with Andrex (made in the Uk)...does it not wipe your ass clean enough?

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 11/08/2024 02:19

Robot vacuum/floor mop. Just wonderful to come down to clean floors each morning (all ceramic tiled floors.

Underfloor heating. Gentle constant warmth

Microwave rice cooker. It gives me joy, perfectly cooked rice every time I use it.

My single cup boiler thingy. I would have liked a boiler tap but this was only £75 & just plugs in, makes a cup of tea in seconds- cheaper than boiling the kettle. It has an inbuilt water filter too.

OneTwinklyCrab · 11/08/2024 02:26

Oodie hoodie, in winter and the Oodie T nightie, so comfy.

Parkly · 10/08/2024 23:24

Please can we have links?!

I want to know which comfy mattresses, which woolly heated throws, which electric fireplaces etc!

My current thing is houseplants. I moved last year and never really had them in the old house. Here I have loads of them, and really enjoy watering and tending to them. Now there's a sentence I never thought I'd write!

Ooh me too! Always had cats who ate my plants so didn't bother with any more. Now I have one old rescue cat who's not bothered and I have loads of plants. They make me happy and I love taking cuttings and watching them grow, then passing them on to friends and family.

My nespresso machine and milk frother. TV in bedroom and my garden room gym which is my workspace.

Can I ask which milk frother you have? I'm looking for one, but the last one I had was difficult to clean, ended up with lots of dried in milk around the whisk bit.

hilariousnamehere · 11/08/2024 02:39

@Imatorturedpoet oh god I forgot milk frother, mine also makes my list! It's a Smeg one and was expensive but totally worth it - the jug, lid and whisks all detach and go in dishwasher, and easy to clean by hand too! And makes hot chocolate like the velvetiser but hotter :)

Sitting with our seahorses first thing in the morning having a cup of coffee and giving them breakfast. When I do it, two of them who will let go of whatever they've anchored themselves to, swim down to the front, and do a little synchronised dance to say "Good morning Mr Frogpole, what's for breakfast today?". When DW goes to them only one comes along to say hi, and he does a completely different dance for her. If I put my hand in their water some of the big ones will hold on to my fingers with their tails and happily just sit there filter feeding. If Mrs FP puts her hand in too she gets mobbed by them as her fingers are much easier for them to anchor to, and the odd one or two will flutter-swim back and fourth between us.

I know it's not exactly profound or impressive, but it's something that's just nice to look forwards to. Plus I like to think of it as a little bit of a "look how far we've come" thing.

How wonderful! I've always fancied keeping seahorses, but wouldn't know where to start, I find tropical fish challenging enough! Would love it if you could post a photo.

Powderblue1 · 11/08/2024 03:42

@Arraminta I use the chocoloco gold keratin treatment and have done for years. You can buy on Amazon. It's great, I repeat about every 3-4 months

Frogpole · 11/08/2024 03:48

TheNuthatch · 10/08/2024 10:03

I love that! That would bring me oodles of joy 😊

They're wonderful little things really, ever so easy to look after compared to any other saltwater fishies. It takes a while for them to properly settle in and find their feet wings, for their personalities to come out, but they're right little characters when they get going.

They'll do little dance routines to show that they recognise you, and they'll do a different dance to show that they recognise someone else but know that it isn't you, to show they can tell the difference between one human and another.

They'll flash certain colours to signal "Hey, I know you, you're my friend! Look guys, this one's a friendly one!" and the others will mimic it to say "Yep, we trust your judgement Bob, she looks alright to us!".

Or nudge your fingers with their snout to say "I want to go on your hand like those ones are but I can't find anywhere to sit, can you make me a space please?". All kinds of stuff really - a seahorse snowball is quite a sight to see! We're really lucky to have them :)

Powderblue1 · 11/08/2024 03:54

My wireless earphones to listen to audiobooks free via Libby. I use both all of the time; while getting dressed, housework, ironing, cooking etc.

My iPad to watch tv while I cook.

A utility room with two washing machines/tumble dryer combos and I usually have them both going at the same time.

We have a ninja air fryer 14 in 1 that has lots of different settings. It's amazing at doing a roast with a thermometer prong and turns off when the roast is cooked perfectly and even cooks veg and potatoes underneath.

A sage coffee machine.

Books- lots of them!

Solar garden lights just make me happy 😃

Perfume. I love choosing what to wear
Wax burner so the house smells nice
Mini bathroom speaker so I can listen to music or podcasts in the shower
My cat

the robot vacuum cleaner. I bought on prime day. Oh my goodness, I love seeing it work so hard when all I have to do is lift stuff off the floor. It reminds me how much I dislike using the upright one.
Also 6 weekly hair appointments and the occasional facial. Lucious!

Which vacuum do you have. I get a big overwhelmed by the options!

Dry air weather, humidity less than 35%.
The smell of the desert Southwest after a rain shower.
Watching the birdies hop around my patio while I drink my morning tea.

Electric blanket. I love it.

I'm a bit disappointed with mine as the drink is always just too tepid. Advice is to boil the kettle and warm the cup before pouring in the chocolate.... I've gone back to heating my chocolate drink in a saucepan on the stove.

If it was a couple of degrees hotter out of the velvetiser it would be perfect, you can always leave it a minute to cool down but when it starts off tepid ....

I have read this before, I have a velvetiser and the hot chocolate comes VERY hot, much too hot to drink. Maybe I lucked out? I don’t preheat anything either. Milk straight out of the fridge.

Is your velvetiser Hotel Chocolat?
My friend also has one and says the same, ie tepid.

Yes. Hotel Chocolat. Seems I was lucky? I can tolerate quite hot drinks too but it’s seriously far too hot to drink. I love it in the cooler weather. I don’t buy expensive hot chocolate just supermarket stuff but it’s so creamy and well mixed.
