What one item makes your life a bit nicer?

I have just read a thread about making life easier. It's always meal planning and household appliances.

Anyway it got me thinking whilst having a shower... I love my Bluetooth shower speaker. Being able to listen to my own music in the shower is great.

I don't need it. I can obviously live without it but I really love that little thing!

I also have dogs. I think it's a given that animals and children bring joy.

You have to recommend something to make life nicer.

What are you choosing? Smile

My wine fridge, kindle (love reading) and being a fosterer for guide dogs! Love having a dog here,I work full time so it’s a good compromise!

Being out of a care home after 20 months and moving into my own place on Sunday. My bed is arriving tomorrow, an ottoman with all the storage underneath to keep stuff out of the way. No clutter in the bedroom, walk-in wardrobe/dressing room next door (okay, so it's just a teeny tiny room that I didn't know what else to do with, and also a conservatory, I say conservatory, but a decent space that I can use as a craft room and as somewhere to clean down the (as yet to get) rescue dogs when they come in inevitably wet and a bit mucky after a good walk.

Just getting out of the hell hole that is a care home after so long, honestly a cardboard box under a railway bridge would make life a bit (lot) nicer. I'm not even that bothered about "stuff" anymore as 99.9% of mine has been disposed of when my ex-family members thought I was going to kick the bucket and I wouldn't be around to mind!

I moved 250+ miles to get away from toxic family members and start my life again, it is the best thing I could have done and has made my life a helluva lot nicer in so many ways.

Just wishing you every happiness in your fresh start. There must be a massive back story there, and it’s sounds like you’ve triumphed!

My vertical mouse. I was getting an achy arm and wrist but the mouse has fixed me. I smile a bit every morning when I set up my work station.

Air conditioning in my loft bedroom. I would sell my kids before I got rid of it.
Nothing is better than sleeping in 18• when the rest of the house is 27• in the summer.

My mattress, it cost a fortune but I sleep so much better on it and have less hip and knee pain. Life is always better with more sleep.

My mokapot and milk frother (two items, i know). I bought both in Jan of this year and havent bought a takeaway coffee since! Perfect coffee at home and i put my coffee in my flask when im in the park with my toddler and have hot coffee just how i like it.

also mokapots last forever and you can take them places, unlike my nespresso machine that was insanely loudly and broke!

I have always been the only one in our house that likes coffee, so over the years, nearly 50 now, I have tried loads if different coffee makers. Percolator, Cafetiere, simple filter over a cup, electric filter machine. Some have been good to make several cups, but not so good for a single cup. I can't justify spending on a fancy espresso machine, and I couldn't be bothered with the faff.A couple of years ago, I bought a L'Or espresso machine that uses Nespresso compatible pods. Absolutely love it. I bought a nice Villeroy and Bosch coffee cup, and I like nothing more in the evening than enjoying a cup of coffee in my special cup - in the mornings, I just use a normal mug, but taking the time with this mug helps me wind down and enjoy the coffee. Love it.

My lovely cocker spaniel.
my pond and bird feeder, I can sit on the sofa and watch so much amazing wildlife.
a comfy mattress (still searching for that ultimate pillow).
DH in there somewhere 🤗

A pantry, I know it’s a space but it’s the comfort of having stored food. Also having everything practical to hand .

I like the coffee idea! Do the chilly’s flasks keep the coffee hot all night then? I never knew that! I’m off to dig mine out ready to try in the morning!

Me too!

Xmasxrackers · 10/08/2024 20:07

a good pair of socks in the winter. I make sure all the evening jobs are done while the kids are getting ready for bed, so as soon as they go down I have the whole evening to do grown up relaxing things. A nice hot bath, a lovely smelling bubble bath, a nice tea with chocolate and some lovely warm socks, along with some good quality loungewear.

sorry that was more like a scenario as opposed to a thing lol but this heat is killing me and I’d give a toe for this right now!

HamSad · 10/08/2024 20:12

Lovely idea for a thread.
Audible - time spent on housework or cooking is infinitely better with a good book being read to me.
A nice handbag - doesn't have to be super expensive.
Gel pedicures - make me feel put together.
My garden.

My Alexa my only company day and night

My new orthopedic mattress.
Hardly any backache in the morning now compared to before when I could hardly move first thing in the morning.
The sciatica still hasn't gone though 😕

keffie12 · 10/08/2024 20:21

My mobility scooter (I'm not allowed to drive due to a neurology condition) which gives me freedom and my monthly reflexology and head massage

My dehumidifier.
I can get the washing dry in the winter and much less mould on the walls.

Yea me too ! It fill the canister on a hot day to the brim and no mould 👍

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 10/08/2024 20:30

DC4. We call her our luxury extra. Like any good luxury, she’s expensive, unnecessary and arguably unjustifiable. But she makes our family life just that little bit better.

Sometimesright · 10/08/2024 20:35

My heated back pad! Perfect for aching joints.
And my gorgeous ginger cat 🥰

Missmarymack2 · 10/08/2024 20:36

I love my (fake) dry robe. And I love sea swimming

krustykittens · 10/08/2024 20:36

My linen sheets, thick mattress topper and my LED reading light that wraps around my neck, so I can snuggle down under my duvet with my pillows and velvet cushions with a good book. A cup of hot chocolate on my bed side table and pouring rain outside, and that is pretty much my perfect night.

August68 · 10/08/2024 20:39

My nespresso machine and milk frother. TV in bedroom and my garden room gym which is my workspace.
