What one item makes your life a bit nicer?

I have just read a thread about making life easier. It's always meal planning and household appliances.

Anyway it got me thinking whilst having a shower... I love my Bluetooth shower speaker. Being able to listen to my own music in the shower is great.

I don't need it. I can obviously live without it but I really love that little thing!

I also have dogs. I think it's a given that animals and children bring joy.

You have to recommend something to make life nicer.

What are you choosing? Smile

This is my favourite piece of writing I've read in ages

I was just thinking how poetic it sounds 🥹

What a lovely thread.

For me I’d say my kindle scribe. It’s so much easier keeping all my notes together there rather than on random scraps of paper and different paper notebooks.

Also love my Alexa, Audible
and having a standing desk. It’s made the world of difference to my back.

@Arraminta sorry I can't find your post but in answer to your question regarding the steamer it's just a little hand held Philips clothes steamer .. I think it's a travel one - bought it for Dd but she never used it but it's perfect for sorting out a few creases and also for steaming blouses and delicate material from inside.
Love this thread OP ! Xx

@masomenos which washing up liquids? Only I wash up here so might be nice to treat myself to nice smell.

Thank you and to everyone who commented on what I wrote. I had a really shit year last year but the wonderful view from my house and the stunning countryside I live in brings me so much peace and tranquility. The joy of living rurally is that you watch the season change you realise that nothing last forever that the dark winter days that so many of us hate are not here for ever around Xmas when. it’s the darkest time of year the snow drops start poking through for me the beginning of the end of the winter.
In a few weeks the swallows will be gathering on the phone wires getting ready to fly back to Africa and I feel so sad to see them go it signifies the end of summer and its such fun seeing them go flying around my house but then the geese arrive and the curlews have already come back to our beaches with their haunting call so even in the dark days of winter I find happiness in the things around me. I’ve learnt that it’s in the simple things in life that we can find peace and happiness.
It’s so therapeutic and adds rhythm and routine to my busy life.

The insect netting on my windows and the back door which magnetically reseals itself.

The well pump and the 360 degrees sprayer that waters the veg patch when needed.

Such a lovely post!

Has anyone got an accupressure mat from Amazon that they would recommend as a one to try before going for a more expensive one? As well as aches and pains etc can they help with general well-being?

semideponent · 10/08/2024 14:36

My Tesla Model 3 and being able to listen to podcasts while driving

BeyondImagining · 10/08/2024 14:41

Bean to cup machine - didn't buy one for ages as it seemed such an indulgence but we use it every day and I love it

Boiling water tap

My beautiful dog - worth every penny

Baavet Duvet and pillows

My little car. For years I drove big cars, now I have a little Toyota and love it. Cheap to run, easy to park and enough room for all my needs.

Varifocal glasses. I held out against them as it felt like the descent into middle age but they are actually brilliant.

sausagepastapot · 09/08/2024 22:02

YY to shakti mat, I absolutely love it and have done for years and years

Adore my robot hoover- total game changer and worth every penny

I've got two dishwashers and I couldn't be happier about this 😝

Dyson airwrap- saves me so much on blowdries and so bloody easy to use with reliable results every time

Sage coffee machine- so my coffee is right there in the morning

Heated blanket is a total total winner too

sorry...I appear to have quite a few 🙈

Two dishwashers! I have dishwasher envy, my cousin in NZ has the drawer ones, take it out of one and put it in the other one when dirty.

Lovely thread OP.

Garden trading scissors with built in nutcracker, bottle opener, screw cap opener and screw driver.
That's on top of the usual meat and veggie cutting.
Beautifully made.

@masomenos , which washing up liquid please? Currently using a Zara one in a glass bottle and feels so luxurious.

Another for me is a Simple Human bin. We had a tricky spot with not much room for a regular kitchen bin and it fits perfectly.

Rattan tissue box covers, every time I pull one out, it gives me pleasure as they're so smart.

Long matches, no more burning fingers when lighting more than one candle.

Another for a king size bed, a good mattress, matress topper, protector, tempur pillows for base and light feather ones on top and 100% cotton bedding.

We'd never had room for anything bigger than a double, so when we moved, we upgraded.
It did all cost a small fortune but now sleep so well.

Big ikea clear plastic containers for shoes. They fit under the bed, so two on each side. A game changer as shoes are out of site but airing and don't clutter the porch.

Overdoor hooks to hang the ironing board in the cleaning cupboard.

Oxo food bin, never thought a food bin could look so good.
Got the idea from a similar thread on here.

Lastly, buying two of each when I find an everyday/work dress that sits/fits just right.
A new friend suggested it on a particular dress I always got compliments on. It was like a light bulb moment even though I had doubts on getting bored of said dresses.
Works on classic styles that never get out of fashion as well as shoes/trainers.

My car. Yes it's a 4x4. I never thought I
would get one, I feel such a hypocrite. But it was exactly right for 4 adults to comfortably travel long distances.

It's safe for the large amount of motorway driving I do. And it's not a gas guzzler but it's got a lot of power for overtaking on hills etc. It has clever driver assists like lane assist, auto braking in emergencies etc

It's completely changed my life. I drive places I'd never have gone. I am free, independent, I have gone far and wide in it.

Ohh whcih one do you have?

LoveRosesClimbing · 10/08/2024 15:29

Can someone link to a garden egg chair please? We made a little pond, it is beautiful and supports all kinds of local wildlife, tiny and bigger.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 10/08/2024 15:47

My air conditioning.

And we have a water filter, chiller (and heater) machine, well we’ve got cold, filtered water on tap.

which insect netting do you have please? I would love to have fly screens like we did when we lived overseas but can't find anything suitable here in UK. Really just to keep spiders out.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/08/2024 16:20

@DTisawazzock check out Amazon. I bought one that tapes a velcro strip to the outside to hold the screen which can be removed to clean. Inexpensive. Various sizes and the one I found will make size to order if requested.

WhyDoesItAlways · 10/08/2024 16:29

@treesandsheepeverywhere

Great tip on the hooks for the ironing board. We have two clothes airers that are always in the way and never even considered hanging them on the back of the laundry door. Genius!

For me it's:
Dyson hairdryer
Aircon at home
Charlotte tilbury healthy glow - it's a tinted moisturiser, so easy to apply, feels like wearing nothing and stays on all day. Don't think I'll ever go back to foundation.
Wool duvet and good quality sheets
Loop earplugs so I can't hear DP snore.
Blackout blind and curtains in the bedroom.
Robot vacuum and lawn mower.
Projector so no massive TV taking up space in the living room.
Alexa, she's everywhere even in the car.
My butcher - better and cheaper than supermarket meat.

superplumb · 10/08/2024 16:50

Max mara coat. Can't wait for autumn.
I'm getting chickens soon and can't wait to get them.
Dog next year..prob spring so I have time to research.
Also love my nice handbags.

CheltenhamLady · 10/08/2024 18:00

A dressing room with drawers for handbags and shelving for shoes. I love being able to see all my clothes and accessories.

A hotel style bed surround with built in side tables with lights and USB.

An Orangery which has an apex window which still gives me a thrill when I open the sliding, pocket doors!

A Bridgewater mug with Venice painted onto it.

An Aura digital photo frame which all the family link into and send their photos.

Sweet peas in my garden.

I used to have one of those, but it broke.😀

Lorapots · 10/08/2024 18:08

yeah they do break down a lot which is maybe why this thread is about items - as in inanimate objects- rather than humans/animals lol

CBStrike · 10/08/2024 18:11

My new under stairs fitted shoe storage drawers ❤️. I love them!
Made a messy area look sleek and tidy.

My headband earphones. Joy every night listening to audio books.

I’d love to know which ones you use - I tried a set but the actual earphones were really hard discs that dug into me!
