What one item makes your life a bit nicer?

I have just read a thread about making life easier. It's always meal planning and household appliances.

Anyway it got me thinking whilst having a shower... I love my Bluetooth shower speaker. Being able to listen to my own music in the shower is great.

I don't need it. I can obviously live without it but I really love that little thing!

I also have dogs. I think it's a given that animals and children bring joy.

You have to recommend something to make life nicer.

What are you choosing? Smile

My molke bras, I have humongous bazookas and instead of having to wear industrial scaffolding I have lovely soft fabric covered in dinosaurs!

My V pillow. Reading in bed is so much more comfortable. Complete old lady vibes but I love it.
My hot water bottle. I've used it every night this year other than about 10
Our rainfall shower. When we got the bathroom done last year, I was in two minds but went for it and also had an adjustable one fitted to the wall. The adjustable one is mainly used when cleaning the bathroom! Holidays can now be a disappointment if there isn't a rainfall shower.

We have a rainfall shower in the house we moved into but it doesn't have a normal shower attachment, I need a power shower to wash my hair or takes forever, my partner loves the rainfall shower. So we've been looking for a rainfall shower with power shower attachment, where is your shower from could you link it please? A few we've looked at have bad reviews saying they leak.

Blackout blinds - proper ones that sit in a channel either side of the window. Game changer.

DTisawazzock · 10/08/2024 09:16

100% down duvets and down pillows (I think they have a small inner core of feather). Once I tried the duvet I had to buy more. 2.5 for summer, 4 for when it gets a bit colder and 9 for winter.

The view out of my window. I look onto hills I watch the seasons change, and the weather changing, I see migratory geese in the winter swallows and swifts in the summer, bats at night, the sun sets over the hills, I see kites flying, and my neighbours and I think occasionally a golden eagle. I watch the cows on the dairy farm, I know when they are turned out in spring that winter is finally over, I see young lambs skipping in the spring and they make me smile, in the winter the hills turn dark the granite outcrops turn black, in the spring they are covered in bright yellow gorse now heather is coming through soon the trees will change colour for autumn.
i used to dream of owning a house with a view and now I’ve got one it just makes me happy.

This is my favourite piece of writing I've read in ages

Tesla. I always thought they were big stupid novelty cars, but the technology on board blows my mind and the megaphone function is hilarious 😆

One of those swinging egg seats in the garden, a double one so you can sit sideways with your legs up on the seat. It is THE most relaxing place to sit out with a drink and a book. We all fight over it.

I have one of these. I paid for it out of my share of disposable pocket money so it's "mine". Then in 2022 I had loads of back problems (all resolved now, but I have to be careful) and I can no longer sit in it comfortably!!!

DH, both DC and the 2 DCats love it. I can only look at it. 😢

Transformed how long it takes to water the garden. Takes 2 minutes to roll and unroll.

What a lovely thread op!

My car, another Volvo XC60. I've had him 10 years and his name is Sven. If this car was human, I'd be having an affair 😂.

My dogs 🥰

My garden is my small put perfect happy place. I'm growing veg and a loofah plant for the first time this year, and it's brought me so much joy!

My sleep band headphones, mine are cozy phones and I can't sleep without them!

Fabric conditioner! There were times when it was a luxury we couldn't afford so I always really appreciate it now. I get quite excited when a new scent comes out.

As for gadgets, it has to be my heated clothes airer. I splashed out and bought the Lakeland DrySure deluxe, and cover last year and it's brilliant for my big family.

Is anyone else reading this thread and writing a shopping list 🤣

lapochette · 10/08/2024 09:50

Bean to coffee machine, just love my first mug of coffee every morning and the lovely smell of coffee. It's more than paid for itself. Also my quooker tap and dishwasher, they just make life a little bit easier.

I agree! We have a triple one and it is long enough to lie down in - it has really helped us enjoy the garden much more than we used to..

When I didnt need my XC90 anymore and really couldnt justify the cost in terms of fuel and tax (OMG the tax!!) I sold it. And I cried when Sven left (for Sven was his name), I have never stopped missing him and he left 8 years ago.

Wow! I have an XC60 called Sven! He's old and knackered now but I can't part with him 😢

TervenAcademicals · 10/08/2024 10:02

Love our electric Volvo XC40 so joining in with the volvo appreciation 🥰

Frogpole · 10/08/2024 04:09

Sitting with our seahorses first thing in the morning having a cup of coffee and giving them breakfast. When I do it, two of them who will let go of whatever they've anchored themselves to, swim down to the front, and do a little synchronised dance to say "Good morning Mr Frogpole, what's for breakfast today?". When DW goes to them only one comes along to say hi, and he does a completely different dance for her. If I put my hand in their water some of the big ones will hold on to my fingers with their tails and happily just sit there filter feeding. If Mrs FP puts her hand in too she gets mobbed by them as her fingers are much easier for them to anchor to, and the odd one or two will flutter-swim back and fourth between us.

I know it's not exactly profound or impressive, but it's something that's just nice to look forwards to. Plus I like to think of it as a little bit of a "look how far we've come" thing.

I love that! That would bring me oodles of joy 😊

TheaBrandt · 10/08/2024 10:03

We decided we were not “car people” and smugly drove our 11 year old already second hand car around. Basic aircon broken /still used iPod /teens embarrassed. So got ourselves two year old EV Volvo. Omg. Life changing. I now love driving. It’s so smart and luxurious and cool. See what I was missing out on now!

You guys need to tell me how to make the perfect frothy milk!! Any tips??

I can’t take credit for the silky smooth milk, the coffee machine does it all for me!

I put it on the 3rd setting (the longest one), middle heat & it does it’s job. I just kind of swirl it round the jug for abit and bang the jug on the table once to get rid of bubbles (I watched a few you tube vids of baristas doing it 🤭)

Yes my machine also does it, as said it’s bean to cup, I just either press for cappuccino or latte or whatever or just go into milk menu so I can just add as much as is required by the person, it heats it up and then froths it.

I don’t drink milk and drink coffee black, but everyone who comes here wants cappuccinos/frothy milk. I’ve even got caramel syrup or cocoa powder to add if they want it. Feel like a bloody barista sometimes when I’ve a house full 😂. My female friends all know how to do it, and get their own, but the blokes seem to have some form of brain fart and stand staring at the buttons.

Which coffee machine do you have please? I haven't had much luck with bean to cup machines, but yours sounds great!

EasilyDisturbed · 10/08/2024 10:35

I'm probably missing out on some of the tech, but I love, love, love my little car. It's a Toyota Yaris hybrid, it's reliable, nippy, easy to park, spacious for a small car (we fit 4, admittedly small, adults in it comfortably), got aircon, does 60mpg and the other running costs are very low. I love driving it.

Unusually for this sort of thread I am not making a shopping list (yet) but there are a few things I have tried and not got on with, it's interesting how different people like different things or they work better for some than others.

My craft table, it was expensive but it's made a huge difference to my lower back. I make quilts and it's the right height for cutting and ironing, it has made pin basting and squaring up much easier too. I used to have to do pin basting on the kitchen table which was annoying because I had to take breaks because of back pain which meant the kitchen table was out of action for the rest of the family for at least a whole afternoon. It has two leaves so it can be huge, medium sized or quite small. It's on lockable casters so I can move it around and there are shelves for storage in the middle bit. It's this one, https://www.quiltersquest.co.uk/sewezi-tables/cutting-table there are other cheaper options available but I have a SewEzi sewing machine table and find it really good quality so I went the same brand for the cutting table. The one downside is that the height can be adjusted but only when you are putting it together, it needs to be partially taken apart if you need to change height.

Dishwasher....it's quite a big thing in regards to cost to buy and space, not everyone can fit one in but it's so worth it

I love mine, too.

@fluffynotebook I prefer the idea of you 'mediating' every day. 😉

Hey - someone's gotta do it! These things don't meditate themselves, y'know??
