What one item makes your life a bit nicer?

I have just read a thread about making life easier. It's always meal planning and household appliances.

Anyway it got me thinking whilst having a shower... I love my Bluetooth shower speaker. Being able to listen to my own music in the shower is great.

I don't need it. I can obviously live without it but I really love that little thing!

I also have dogs. I think it's a given that animals and children bring joy.

You have to recommend something to make life nicer.

What are you choosing? Smile

Dishwasher....it's quite a big thing in regards to cost to buy and space, not everyone can fit one in but it's so worth it

We just recently had a new kitchen, it's a box room. Literally no place at all we could fit a dishwasher and believe me I tried. It's one thing I know would improve my day to day 😓

I suffer with back pain, sometimes bad enough to have be signed off work, due to EDHS, would this help?! I have never heard of it and would very much appreciate any info x

Hello yes it is certainly worth trying. I have found it so helpful for my neuropathy pain in my legs I suggest that you look up the benefits of far infrared therapy and PEMF therapy and before commiting to buying a mat you can actually hire them. I do hope it helps you

The hammock. I have a freestanding one (metal frame) which wasn't that expensive and it is so comfortable to lie in. I have a lot of swinging/rocking chairs and things and this is my favourite.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/08/2024 02:47

Buying the food I want at grocery shopping. I'll skimp on a lot of things, but not food.

Catsmere · 10/08/2024 02:56

My cosy dressing gown - warm enough that I have been able to do without the heater more often during this very cold southern Australian winter.

My Loop earplugs, more comfortable than others I've used.

My darling cats!

You win this whole thread - wishing you so SO fucking well lovely x

I've only ever won a teasmade before (don't like tea) so thank you very much, you have put a smile on my face. After a truly shit time and only having been here for a month I have met so many lovely people and had so much help and advice I truly feel I have found my spiritual home. There are also a lot of lovely people on MN and you do outweigh the nasties.

Let's hear it for winning at life.

my music system, designed and made in England

What type is it? I need something to play records, cds and cassettes but I expect yours is digital. I'm very old school. I just like the fact that some things are still made in England.

StarlightLady · 10/08/2024 04:05

It works on batteries 🫢.

Sitting with our seahorses first thing in the morning having a cup of coffee and giving them breakfast. When I do it, two of them who will let go of whatever they've anchored themselves to, swim down to the front, and do a little synchronised dance to say "Good morning Mr Frogpole, what's for breakfast today?". When DW goes to them only one comes along to say hi, and he does a completely different dance for her. If I put my hand in their water some of the big ones will hold on to my fingers with their tails and happily just sit there filter feeding. If Mrs FP puts her hand in too she gets mobbed by them as her fingers are much easier for them to anchor to, and the odd one or two will flutter-swim back and fourth between us.

I know it's not exactly profound or impressive, but it's something that's just nice to look forwards to. Plus I like to think of it as a little bit of a "look how far we've come" thing.

Beach cushions. I like to read and to nap on the beach, got a couple of IKEA narrow ones, very nice!
An Anthropologie mug that looks like I’ve nicked it from the Featherington’s (has a gold handle ffs!). I only use it on my days off, to remind me to slow down and look after myself.

Oversized cashmere jumpers.

White shirts. They go with everything.

mathanxiety · 10/08/2024 04:59

Bras that fit, finally, after a good bra fitting.
My deck full of plants, with comfy chairs and a table. It's like an extra room in the summer.

I have a few…
I have really bad health/disabilities so mainly things that help me feel more “normal “ (for lack of a better word)
1- my mobility scooter (small thing but now being able to choose my own shopping is amazing and big thanks to DH for putting it in/out of car as I couldn’t)
2- being able to afford new books (I don’t really like second hand or library books because of mystery stains and folded corners, some people mistreat books )
3-nice pyjamas (by nice I mean “childish “ ones with characters on 🙈😂)
4- good quality skincare (love the 15 mins twice a day making myself feel a bit nicer)
5- fans in every room
6- my velvetiser in winter (well worth the money)
7-Whittards of Chelsea teabags. Chelsea breakfast and Tippy Assam.
8-Shakti mat. (Had a cheap one thought it was ok until DH got me a Shakti and the difference is outstanding)

My DM's new bathroom with shower seat and half height shower surround. She had a fall in March and we got the bathroom changed as a rush job before she came home. Every time I visit I am delighted how well it works for her and Dad when he helps her shower.

seriesoffortunateevents · 10/08/2024 07:04

For me it’s a bean to cup coffee machine. We never have instant now and if we have it at a friends it’s like a pale imitation of coffee. A freshly brewed cup of real coffee in the morning is a pleasure.

it was expensive but if it broke, I’d buy another immediately without a moments hesitation

Mistletoewench · 10/08/2024 07:47

My two male guinea pigs. We keep them indoors and honestly I couldn’t love them anymore, they are so comical and love cuddles. I didn’t think little fluffy potatoes could bring such joy to our family ❤️

Catsmere · 10/08/2024 07:48

What a lovely post, @Frogpole !

The view out of my window. I look onto hills I watch the seasons change, and the weather changing, I see migratory geese in the winter swallows and swifts in the summer, bats at night, the sun sets over the hills, I see kites flying, and my neighbours and I think occasionally a golden eagle. I watch the cows on the dairy farm, I know when they are turned out in spring that winter is finally over, I see young lambs skipping in the spring and they make me smile, in the winter the hills turn dark the granite outcrops turn black, in the spring they are covered in bright yellow gorse now heather is coming through soon the trees will change colour for autumn.
i used to dream of owning a house with a view and now I’ve got one it just makes me happy.

This is really lovely, thank you. I live in Norfolk and it’s hard to get a view if you’re shorter than the average hedge! Great skies though xx

ComeOnThenFanny · 10/08/2024 08:10

Without question, my two beautiful dogs fill my heart with love every time I look at them. (Maybe not quite as much last night when one of them ate an entire bowl of dip, and the other accidentally bit DPs balls whilst playing 🤣)

I ordered a milk frother from Amazon last night off the back of this thread.

Love threads like these, they go to show that you don't need to spend loads of money to get some joy in your life!

Our electric recliner sofa that also has USB charger ports. Game changer... 4 people, phones, devices etc so easy.

🤔😝

Deathraystare · 10/08/2024 08:17

My phone. Not because it is a phone. I am not obsessed by phones, But the fact I have loads of free audiobooks on it! Sure some are crap, but some I would never have read in book form but found some really intruiging such as the Presidents Kitchen about slaves that were drafted in to cook for various presidents, some went to train in cookery school in France!

Jifmicroliquid · 10/08/2024 08:26

My heated throw.
A back support pillow thing I got from the Range. It sort of props you up. It’s great for watching TV in bed.

saturnspinkhoop · 10/08/2024 08:38

My kindle. It’s got me back into reading and helped with stress. It’s backlit, so I can read at night with no lights on. If I want to read a new book, I can download it instantly. It also has a lovely cover that makes me feel a tiny bit happy every time I pick it up.

AnneElliott · 10/08/2024 08:41

For me it's my garden. I've got friends who come and garden for me every fortnight (I do pay them!) and it's just so nice to sit out in a lovely garden in the morning and evenings.
