I see 51% (aka "the whole country") agree that Farage was to blame for recent riots. Apparently he dislikes #Farageriots

#FarageRiots off to the far side of #Farage Riots & when you get there it's #Farage Riots some more.. Nigel Farage - wholly responsible for the #FarageRiots.

Trust our Nige to prove Oscar Wilde wrong.

InMySpareTime · 18/08/2024 18:17

@SerendipityJane without the uppercase R on riots I read those hashtags with a silent t, as FaragEriots like Huguenots.

The irony 😀

Mind you, isn't "Farage" a Huguenot name to start with ? Or Russian ?

Horrific

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx2n8gx475yo

There was also a fall in the number of strip-searches on black children between 2022 and 2023, but they were still four times more likely to be strip-searched than the overall child population.

Dame Rachel de Souza

One child strip searched every 14 hours says new report

One in 20 child strip-searches by police were not compliant with legal codes of practice in England and Wales over five years, the Children’s Commissioner says.

As you say horrific. And -

'One in 20 child strip-searches by police were not compliant with legal codes of practice in England and Wales over five years, a report by the Children’s Commissioner has found."

There is no excuse for this. Not following proper procedures is unacceptable. They are there for a reason. We wouldn't accept police not following procedures with adults.

itsgettingweird · 19/08/2024 09:41

Listened to the Children's commissioner on R4 this morning.

She was really clear that this is unacceptable and she'll be doing some deep diving into it. But she made a really good point that it shouldn't be falling on her alone - police forces should be looking themselves at these figures and working on why it's happening and changing.

The police haven't really got a good reputation at this point. Especially if you are a woman.

I got what she was saying but I also thought 'love , you are literally the Children's Commissioner. This is your job, in fact.' It was something about how she said it.

I am fairly confident I'd be fine around them statistically, compared to a black teenager of either sex, particularly male, or a black adult. The racial disparities are really appalling.

Piggywaspushed · 19/08/2024 10:29

That is not, of course, to diminish the awful misogyny in the police force but I am not keen on underplaying the institutional racism.

Absolutely. All the talk about two-tier policing is actually correct, but not in the way the likes of Farage etc. present it as.

Piggywaspushed · 19/08/2024 10:34

Funnily enough, I started a thread on the black girl who was strip searched at school way back when it happened. MN looked the other way. No surprises there.

This is what Naomi Klein calls diagonality. Basically the right wing stealing the left wing's ideas and language and positioning themselves as the New Victims.

That was one of the sickest reports I've heard of a girl being mistreated by police ever.

It made me feel physically sick. That poor vulnerable young girl.

All because someone decided they smelt cannabis on them.

I'm pretty sure after walking in my local woods you'd smell it on me - but I doubt I'd get the same repayment.

In fact I was driving down an A road yesterday and could smell it coming into my car from the one in front!

SerendipityJane · 19/08/2024 11:10

All because someone decided they smelt cannabis on them.

Back to the old suss laws then.

I wonder if a FOI request from all forces (because you wouldn't want to make it simple and have a single source, would you) would reveal what %age of "smelled cannabis" stops actually found cannabis ? Because I am beginning to wonder if police uniforms are made of hemp.

countrygirl99 · 19/08/2024 12:05

Giraffe wee smells like cannabis. I wonder how many zoo keepers are subject to stop and search.

I am afraid to ask how you know this..

Giraffe feeding experience at Woburn. They have really rough tongues

Every days a school day 😂

itsgettingweird · 19/08/2024 12:57

2 things.

What is up with MN atm. People being personal left right and centre over the sheer fact we have a government that breathes and aren't hated by everyone and all their personal attacks come it's the idea we have lost free speech 🤦‍♀️

And we need a new thread soon. I want a really witty title about Starmer 😂😂 (if he cocks this up it can become negative but until then....)

So thread x - Starmer helms Sunaks sinking ship?

Starmer is on litter picking duty? (Basically picking up all the Toryies shit)

Or something much better and funnier 🤦‍♀️🤭
