I don’t think it’s wildly in the realms of conspiracy theory to say that in the case of the infected blood scandal they were hoping claimants would just die.

About 3000 people have already died.

Listening to BBC South, the anger is focussed on the fact the children were being experimented on, some for 10 years, and that is not really being recognised in the payout.

I noted that one of the delightful contributers was on the recent benefit bashing thread as well.

The problem with an inquiry is that if it doesn’t go your way then you actually have to do something. The idea is that if you drag it out long enough you don’t have to do anything. Especially if the people you need to make payouts too have died.

See also the covid inquiry. Much better to learn the lessons of that after the next pandemic so we can have an inquiry to tell us how we weren’t prepared because the covid inquiry was too slow.

You were hilariously brilliant though!

Claims nearly 10 grand on expenses for visiting a friend in the US, claiming he's there "to represent Clacton on the world stage". Fraud.

Sorry, a trip to Belgium.

To visit a convicted fraudster...

I can't imagine most Americans could find Clacton on a map of Essex, even after his visit.

Agree with the TwiX commenter saying that Farage winning Clacton has been useful because we can now see exactly how dodgy his rich pals are.

RafaistheKingofClay · 17/08/2024 00:07

To support a friend who was nearly killed and to represent Clacton on the world stage made me laugh.

He didn’t even see Trump while he was there did he? And how did it cost so much?

itsgettingweird · 17/08/2024 06:29

I'd paid NOT to see Trump if I ever went or the USA!

Zonder · 17/08/2024 07:00

£9253.60 is quite a lot for a ONE NIGHT trip to Belgium. Even first class on the Eurostar won't scratch the surface.

prettybird · 17/08/2024 08:38

Farage also revealed that his visit to the US on 17 July – in the aftermath of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump – cost £32,000 and was funded by Christopher Harborne, a Thailand-based crypto investor who previously gave millions to the Brexit party. The purpose was recorded as “to support a friend who was almost killed and to represent Clacton on the world stage”

If I were going somewhere to support a friend who'd nearly been killed, I'd be paying for it out of my own pocket which aren't as deep as his and not get it paid for by someone else Confused

Did he do anything to promote Clacton "on the world stage while he was there (as if the GOP were interested in anything beyond their own navels during their convention Confused). Or was it simply an opportunity to promote himself ? Hmm

No need to answer that Grin

My "hidden" post is an innocuous but sarcastic post about our illustrious MP from Clacton, with a quote from the Guardian article about his trip to the US - no idea what could have triggered the automatic hide Confused

Yes ... curious how some posts get auto-hidden isn't it ? Means it can be done. ...

If I were to use the ancient Greek for hidden in this post, I suspect it would be hidden. Which rather goes to show the dangers inherent in the system. If we wanted to be naughty we could do it in French. Or Latin. Or Esperanto.

prettybird · 17/08/2024 08:57

Re-reading my post, I wonder if it was because within the quote was the word that is used for a virtual form of money? Confused

PickAChew · 17/08/2024 08:59

That's possible, @prettybird -we have had a lot of spam related to that topic, in the past week or so.

BestIsWest · 17/08/2024 09:08

I was wondering that. I think someone else had similar happen when they used that word the other day.

SerendipityJane · 17/08/2024 09:22

Sounds like you have reached the same conclusion as me 😀

So there is one "c" word MN don't like. Presumably they are introducing that tech to filter out the overt racists and hatemongers ? I mean AI all that should be a doddle ....

prettybird · 17/08/2024 09:32

I don't know if it has been sorted but it used to be that if you talked about stiggering about something - swap the t for an n Wink - it would get hidden Shock

The MN filter was picking up the racist word for a black person within that innocuous word Confused

Must have been bad for Scunthorpe MNetters.

Just for the avoidance of doubt, "AI" is shite. Admittedly they got the "A" bit right. But the "I" bit took a wrong turn about 20 years ago. We have no thinking machines.
