I know people live there and go about their work and lives but I'm concerned now re how volatile the situation is and our train goes through something tough areas.
Am I being silly, we're were supposed to see all show

Why? What’s happening Thursday? I live here, should I be worried?!!!

murasaki · 05/08/2024 22:23

Very silly. You'd be going through 'tough areas' on a train, not walking around flashing a rolex. And you may not have noticed, but London isn't rioting at the moment.

Enjoy the show, it'd be a shame to miss put due to misplaced paranoia.

RosaRoja · 05/08/2024 22:24

Go and see the show. Take a bit of extra time for travel, just in case. Or come early and join in one of the free fan-zones and watch some Olympics.

RiotsLondon · 05/08/2024 22:24

@Shibr well I know lists of events are going around so I'm hoping someone can tell me that.
I've not seen anything myself but the situation seems to so volatile and we would be going Central.

Ha, me too, I'll stock up on bottled water and hide under the bed!

I also live a 50 minute train ride from London. Wouldn't give it a second thought this week. It's a huge city, less likely than most to have this kind of rioting, and certainly not likely in the tourist bits. If anywhere it'd be in some poorer area with a mosque and brown people.

You're highly unlikely to come across any issues.

Putting · 05/08/2024 22:29

I’ll be going in on Thursday - I have to get to work!

RiotsLondon · 05/08/2024 22:33

@BeaRF75 what a nasty response. Is this written in the spirit of the site?

Countries have added us to their be careful to travel lists, violence is springing up randomly all over. I don't want to be trapped in a train with no escape if a violent mob gets on.

I've a tin hat for anyone that needs it?

murasaki · 05/08/2024 22:36

People are going about their daily lives as normal.

Some other people, well I don't know how they manage to get out of bed in the morning. Just go.

RiotsLondon · 05/08/2024 22:40

@murasaki thanks... I think going into somewhere your not entirely familiar with, with two young children is a bit different to me going into my local towns /area that I know well by myself.

Going anywhere with children you are more vulnerable, esp into new places than going alone.

If I was in my local town and something kicked off or a nasty crowd was near us I know my way around, how to get out of it where to go

murasaki · 05/08/2024 22:44

Fair enough.. but I genuinely think you'll be fine on trains and tubes, and are going Central, i would say if anything does kick off, which it really hasn't to date bar by Westminster, it will be in the suburbs. And it's unlikely there at the moment. We did ours a decade ago!

RiotsLondon · 05/08/2024 22:52

Yes the suburbs I may be traveling through!

OP posts:
murasaki · 05/08/2024 22:55

Honestly, it'll be fine. If it helps, there may be rain coming Thursday evening, that tends to calm things down. But it's all OK right now, you've booked the show and presumably are looking forward to it, please don't feel scared to go.

Yes the suburbs I may be traveling through!

But you'll be on a train?

murasaki · 05/08/2024 22:56

And I'm not sure rioters make an escape via Southern rail or Thameslink!

RiotsLondon · 05/08/2024 22:57

I get extremely claustrophobic anyway and sometimes struggle on the tube.
I remember years ago during the Paris riots someone said they were cought up in them on the metro.

Hopefully it will rain.

Suffolk how are tyere mobs getting around?

Countries have added the UK to their 'careful to travel lists'? Which countries ?

They’d be waiting for hours for the getaway train!

murasaki · 05/08/2024 23:01

If its suburban rioting it will be locals.

I know re the tube, I tend to use the bus myself in central London, but its really very safe.

Frenchsplit · 05/08/2024 23:01

You’ll be fine, don’t miss out!

But to reassure the OP - London is absolutely fine. Enjoy your show.

It feels very safe here in London. I don’t think there has been any rioting here? Speaking as a lifelong Londoner the anti immigrant racism that is behind this behaviour elsewhere in the country is thankfully not a strong part of our city. We are an international, multi cultural centre with a Muslim mayor.

if you’re travelling in for 50 minutes then you are presumably not very far away? Honestly I’d rather be here than anywhere else in England right now.

LoveHeartsFan · 05/08/2024 23:13

I travelled in by train from further afield to go to London overnight for a show. Just got back today. Nada, not even so much as a sniff of an issue.

Just as I did after 7/7, after IRA bombs exploded in London, and just after the Poll Tax riots.
