I know people live there and go about their work and lives but I'm concerned now re how volatile the situation is and our train goes through something tough areas.
Am I being silly, we're were supposed to see all show

Judging by the number of children with parents on the commuter trains tonight most people feel safe.
I have worked in London for years and have had very few issues in the main areas. Please go and enjoy.

Mintym · 05/08/2024 23:54

It's not a war zone. You'll be fine!

Mademetoxic · 05/08/2024 23:58

Lock yourself in your house. Don't leave the house at all this week.

That is my advice.

What a daft question. People are just living their lives and going about their daily business. I say this from a northern town which was targeted this weekend.

Polarnight · 05/08/2024 23:59

I live in London and am in the centre daily for work. Is something meant to be happening?

I think there are various "racist thug meet-ups" planned around the country, I imagine op has heard there's one happening somewhere in London. Probably op is just not used to how vast and varied London is.

@ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea

Countries have added the UK to their 'careful to travel lists'? Which countries ?
Australia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Indonesia and increasing numbers of other countries are primed to follow suit, especially those with a large Muslim population.

Stichintime · 06/08/2024 00:13

Have no fear, any problems a kind Londoner will step in, especially if there's kids with you. Otherwise stay at home and give London a break.

don't blame them really...

but as for London, not heard anything today - am I meant to have heard something? going in the rest of the week for work

Comefromaway · 06/08/2024 00:17

I’m in London at the moment. It feels very safe here. I saw a show tonight.

MrsMasterclass · 06/08/2024 00:23

I live in London. Literally nothing has happened in our area. 100% business as usual.

mouseyowl · 06/08/2024 00:27

Imaginaryhairstyle · 05/08/2024 23:08

It feels very safe here in London. I don’t think there has been any rioting here? Speaking as a lifelong Londoner the anti immigrant racism that is behind this behaviour elsewhere in the country is thankfully not a strong part of our city. We are an international, multi cultural centre with a Muslim mayor.

if you’re travelling in for 50 minutes then you are presumably not very far away? Honestly I’d rather be here than anywhere else in England right now.

Agreed. Multi-cultural London seems the safest place in England at the moment!

mouseyowl · 06/08/2024 00:30

Get the bus or walk if you don't like the tube (it can very grim in the summer, hotter than hell down there in some stations)

Londoners are a decent bunch, especially if you have little kids with you, you'll be grand. Hope you all have a lovely time.

Turophilic · 06/08/2024 00:35

You’ll be fine. It’s daft to change your plans over it.

RiotsLondon · 06/08/2024 07:21

Thanks to them reassuring posters.
Apparently there is a media called telegram and stuff is being organised on it..
Walthamstow is possibly Thursday target but don't quote me.

They are apparently planning to target Waltham Forest, Finchley, Harrow and Hounslow. The WF one is on Wednesday evening, I’ve seen a call out for local people to defend their reported target. And apparently the Harrow one is on Wednesday too from this article.
I have no high opinion of the Met police but they mobilise in large numbers for even tiny protests, and locals will not be sympathetic. Hopefully it will fizzle out.
OP you’ll be fine in central London, if they were heading to Westminster it would be well-publicised in advance and would be on a Saturday as they’d be getting people in from outside London.

I've been going in every day for work and a night out last week. It's been fine and have had no issues

Biggaybear · 06/08/2024 09:03

Where are you travelling from ? I live in SE London & would have no issues going into town to watch a show. The only '"disturbances" there have been in London was last Saturday I believe & that was at one of the planned demonstrations that seem to take place weekly in Central London.

You will be quite safe travelling on trains & the tube.

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 06/08/2024 09:19

What "situation"?

The less than 5000 people nationwide throwing a bit of a tantrum who are already simmering down? You're being absolutely ridiculous

Boater · 06/08/2024 09:27

I'm going tomorrow, hadn't even thought about not going.

But why would you be going to Walthamstow if you're going to a West End show.

I can't see them getting very far in those parts of London ( or any, tbh!). They are clearly not from London. I would feel safer in London than anywhere else atm.

Victoria line?

RiotsLondon · 06/08/2024 09:37

I'm not going to Walthamstow, I'm pointing out that unfortunately this telegram thing is organising people in various spots.

To be fair I guess London is one place that does have decent police numbers.

OP posts:
Schoolchoicesucks · 06/08/2024 09:58

West End for a show will be fine. Any protests will likely be centred on Downing Street and police presence will be high.

Not heard about any suburban protests - last time there were "riots" they were pretty concentrated in small suburban shopping centres - so in the unlikely event you stumbled across something would be able to avoid by walking a street away.

Boater · 06/08/2024 10:00

@DramaLlamaBangBang odd route from Suffolk.
