I’m personally not okay with rioting but understand why it’s happening.
What is the best way to fix this issue and do you think it is mass immigration that has caused it?

investment in education… but oh wait the government are about to tax it.

So you are not deprived or in need so this thread isn’t for you.
I don’t think many agree with people rioting, but the underlying causes need to be addressed.
Treating people like second class citizens and looking down on them with disdain will cause more tension will build.

Oh, I have a say since they target people like me. I'm the one who spent the day second-guessing taking my kids out because of some thugs. I don't treat them like second-class citizens. They act like it. Yes, I grew up in a deprived area, but it was never an excuse for this type of behaviour.

ElleintheWoods · 05/08/2024 23:15

The issue is propaganda, no checks whatsoever on what someone is able to post online, and lack of critical thinking skills.

People slag off media studies - if it would be a primary school subject, people would be a little bit more critical of what they see online, who is targeting them and why.

I have worked in at least one major workplace where random viral WhatsApp messages or fake videos were fully believed and incited major violence. Many people genuine believe that online content is representative of real life.

See also ‘Asian riots Leicester 2022’. Same script, just ran by other string pullers.

This model has been tried and tested in many countries to incite ethnically or politically motivated violence and it’s now here in Britain.

White working class people are miserable because they have no prospects and aren't willing to work to improve themselves post the mines and many industries going else where.

They then blame their sh*t lives on immigrants...

That's basically it

Nasty perspective of white working class

Imagine ruining your community resources while rioting about people taking your resources.

Sorry i should have said *SOME white working class people

I meant the ones taking part in these riots..!

So you understand that whilst the rioting was unnecessary and a product of misinformation on social media there are many who feel ignored and resentful. Never able to say anything because they are labelled racist for their views on immigration?

Yawn. The silencing argument.

The moan of right wingers and racists, yet here they are, rioting.

They have exactly the same lawful opportunities to speak as everyone else - councils, voting.

The problems are structural, long standing and won't go away any time soon.

Eleanorshelstrop · 05/08/2024 23:38

TinklySnail · 05/08/2024 22:48

If you are just going to call people stupid for their opinions then you do not understand why people think it is the problem and the resentment is building.

But the people “rioting” (aka committing domestic terrorism/vandalism/hate crimes/attempted murder/burglary) are literally morons. They don’t even know what they’re annoyed about. They believe whatever they’re told and never bother to use their own brains or do the smallest amount of research. When people act like absolute racist hateful and violent idiots, making the rest of the country feel ashamed of being British, why can’t we call them out?

Zet1 · 05/08/2024 23:39

So I should have sympathy for people who wish to harm me and my family because the colour of my skin and their ignorance?

There are plenty of people who feel ignored and resentful from all backgrounds including white people who would never behave like this so cry me a river.

The issue is that there is a subset of people who don't wish to integrate into multicultural Britain and update their skillset. Instead they go on about immigrants and pass the nasty attitude onto their kids.

Eleanorshelstrop · 05/08/2024 23:40

FWIW I’m working class white British but just not an absolute moron. Like, I am able to do research, exercise my critical thinking skills, and not act like a hateful rabid twat. Not hard really.

anotherside · 05/08/2024 23:44

TinklySnail · 05/08/2024 22:04

Do they turn their noses up? Freedom of movement saw a lot of British being paid less and less. The EU immigrants were happy to work for less. Is that the fault of the British people? Warehouse work in 2008 was a well paid position and by 2010 it was peanuts because companies could pay EU workers less.
The resentment has been building for years because people lost their standard of living. I do t blame the Polish as we know they are hard workers but I equally don’t blame British workers who have been short changed

I used to do care work for agencies. About £12 an hour back in the year 2003. Loads of unskilled immigrants filling the posts and loads of opportunities. Hard work but a decent enough wage and as many hours as you’d want. And yet apparently according to the locals there weren’t any jobs.

Eleanorshelstrop · 05/08/2024 23:45

Brexile · 05/08/2024 20:26

You've said what I was going to say, only said it better!

It’s EXACTLY this. They are the problem with this country, not any immigrants. Everyone I know welcomes immigrants and appreciates them for the way they enrich our country and make it better. These racist idiots are shameful, they make nothing better, and nobody appreciates them. Get rid of them, not immigrants.

Stop making excuses for assholes destroying other peoples property. It’s absolutely disgraceful and there’s zero excuse for it and it’s the working class victims who will suffer most from having their cars destroyed etc.

That's an oversimplification though. As many have said, whole industries were closed down/sold off in communities that depended on them. Nothing was put in to replace them. We were told "the city will look after us" by a certain Mrs Thatcher. Except it didn't. We've now become a service industry, we don't produce much any more.

Communities like this never fully recovered from these losses. What else is there to aspire to for these men? And women? They've had prospects ripped from under their feet, and likely no positive role models in life to look up to. It's created 2-3 generations of people who literally don't know HOW to pull themselves out of poverty because there's fuck all there in these towns.

I'm from a wc family in a northern town. Aside from BAE which is a commute away, there is nothing inspiring in my hometown. They've invested in the high street making it look pretty in recent years but it's a facade when you see the derelict buildings that occupy it, phone and vape shops, bookies and bars. Oh and countless charity shops. There is nothing that stands out as "work here and you'll earn a decent living to feed your family on".

I count myself lucky I had parents who valued education despite both being blue collar workers and often cash-strapped when me and my siblings were younger. I had positive role models in them. I'm very fortunate. Not many round here are.

Nail on the head. They’ll whine about lack of discipline, decency and values while their kids smash up a neighbours car. They’ll point the finger at British people “not getting a fair deal” while pissing away every opportunity handed to them. These aren’t normal working class Brits. They’re a small bunch of nasty resentful losers who pretend their failure is patriotism.

No I didn't say it did. I'm mixed race, my mother is an immigrant. Half of my family are from the carribean.

I'm saying that if people can't pull themselves out of their impoverished situations, often because they lack the education and prospects to do so, it's easier for them to blame immigrants. You have to address the root causes, and just saying "it's not immigrants faults" won't cut it with them.

Summerflames · 06/08/2024 00:35

If the money raised through taxes is pumped into state education that can only be a good thing for state education. An educated society benefits us all.

What about the British citizens who live in mouldy rooms? Do you care about their standard of living?

Living in mouldy rooms. They’re lucky. The city I live in has an epidemic of young white males with MH issues living on the streets. Meanwhile, if you cross the channel, you get a nice hotel, phone and cash.

We had 3 hostels helping the homeless. 2 have closed.

Who is helping our homeless, our young on the streets who’ve suffered abuse, and who have MH issues? How much money did any of you donate to your local homeless charity to keep them warm in winter and get them a dry bed and meal at Christmas. Very few I imagine. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

No one, because they don’t give a shit.

Edited

Well the previous Govenment were only too happy to house the homeless during the first lockdown due to the fear that the more well off might catch Covid off them so it can be done when it suits!!!

It isn't "working class". It is right wing.

Politics is quite bizarre now.

Far right wing tends to be working class
Centre right tends to be middle class
Centre left tends to be middle class
Far left tends to be working class.

So Conservative voters are a mixture of entitled, wealthy, educated, successful people AND struggling working class, poorly educated, disenfranchised, angry people

Labour voters are a mixture of entitled, well off, educated, successful people AND struggling benefits class, poorly educated, disillusioned angry people

Hucklemuckle · 06/08/2024 00:59

@AppleStrudel23

"Home Office figures cited by the Financial Times in August last year showed that the annual asylum cost reached £3.96 billionin the year up to 2023—double that of the previous year and six times higher than 2018."
The problem is that people apparently don't understand the difference between immigration/migration and illegal migrants.

The young man who killed the children (and adults) was a British born son of legal migrants I believe.

As it is so often, it comes down to colour.

Brown and they are a blight on society, white and the bigots are happy. Unless they are Easter. European and then some bigots hate them

No one out there screaming at white immigrants coming in from Australia or Canada. But perfectly legal, educated brown immigrants are dumped in the 'mass migrant problem' conversation.
