Just been talking to my neighbour. He and his family are Nigerian. They haven't been here that long. Both work. They have small dcs.
He's had to take today off work as he works in a town that's been targeted and he's scared to travel.

I'm in tears I'm so angry. Those bastards wouldn't know how to fucking spell work. Luckily I got inside before I broke down. Dh is also teary. They're the loveliest family. I'm genuinely scared for my African neighbours. There's a lot of families moved here from the south because of a housing shortage. All of them that I've met are decent lovely people. Wish I could say the same for a lot of people who are from here.

We're broken aren't we? What the fuck is to be done?

@Didshejustsaythatoutloud I know. Just hate the thought of them being scared.

I know, it depressing and makes you feel ashamed, as long as YOU as a neighbour are friendly and kind, this will go a long way and not make them feel so alone and intimidated. ❤️

RaininSummer · 05/08/2024 19:48

Only we dont gave much prison space. All the inmates of Dartmoor have had to be dispersed across the system and we were already struggling with the government saying they would release prisoners early. They should stop all benefits for those caught taking part too and remove them from social housing lists if they are on them. Make them pay for their actions .

alrightluv · 05/08/2024 19:48

@Frequency the people from the Mosque there have fed thousands of people and raised money themselves. Lovely souls. I feel for the farm shop guy. 70 year old and had to witness this.

I have a week off and had so much planned for DS aged 5 and I to do together.

We are not white, and have had to spend the last days inside the house, because it is not safe for us to go anywhere.

I'm so sorry that you're going through this. I know it's no consolation but decent, non-racist people are the majority and are disgusted with the riots. Unfortunately this minority of violent thugs are just making a lot of noise. I hope you both are able to enjoy the rest of your week off.

Starting a thread by using the pain of others.

How about she gives the platform to those affected and she supports them?

Rather than post and get attention for her tears

@Twistybranch

MN have NOT appointed you thread police.

the OP IS allowed to be upset at what's happening to others in our country. It's called compassion (you don't seem familiar with the concept)

MN have given the platform to anyone who wishes to use it, you may be amazed to learn the Internet isn't limited.

she wasn't looking for attention fir her tears, she was just opening a conversation.

you seem jolly confused about how chat sites work.

Shut down social media would probably be our one chance to stop the madness.

A country that shuts down the internet, then we’ve really got problems.

TheNuthatch · 05/08/2024 19:53

I'm not saying there aren't problems out there at the moment, but I'm starting to think the media are making it look worse than it actually is. I've spent the day in Manchester today, DH in Preston. Life is completely normal. There are people of all colours just going about their business, using public transport, working etc. It really felt like a normal day. Your neighbours sound like a lovely family.

alrightluv · 05/08/2024 19:54

Aww thanks all those sticking up for me. It's OK though you're bound to get some posting who are ironically looking for attention themselves 😂

@mett

im so sorry you feel like that 🥲

roughly where abouts in the country are you?

I wouldn't have thought places you'd take your DD would be attracting these fuck muppets? But then I don't live in an area where these fuck muppets live, so what do I know?! I hope you find a way to enjoy your time off with DD.

My sister lives there, quite close to the mosque, apparently, they've served over 30,000 hot meals to locals in need, as well as raising thousands for local charities.

I do understand their frustration. I live in Teesside. The whole area is chronically underfunded, with few local opportunities and very poor infrastructure but they are blaming the wrong people. Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, and the rest of Teesside were forgotten when the mines closed long before they had a migrant population.

alrightluv · 05/08/2024 20:00

@Frequency they're definitely blaming the wrong people. Thick as mince.

Take a look on another site which is aimed at older people. Worrying.

Fedupmeds · 05/08/2024 20:04

I cannot imagine for a second how scared people are right now, most of these thugs do not represent tge thoughts of british people, magority ate ashamed, yet the same thugs would not
protest if they needed urgent treatment to save their lives and the surgeon was of colour.they are pathetic individuals who need to walk into a job not walk the streets.

Lifeomars · 05/08/2024 20:06

I feel so awful for my Muslim neighbours, both are families with young children, how on earth do you explain to your kids that there are people out there who hate you and wish you harm simply because of your identity. This weekend has brought me to tears and I am white and not in any way at risk, I cannot being to imagine what it must feel like to you may at any time be a target for mindless hate and possible violence. All the kids are lovely, bright and friendly and an asset to the community, as are their parents. I feel sick to my stomach and so ashamed of where this country seems to be heading

You have got to be fucking kidding me!

Forget the get off the thread comments, I doubt anyone wants you anywhere near the planet with "opinions" like this.

That comment had 4 thanks before it was deleted. Thankfully not everyone thinks like you.

They are thick as mince. There is a video about the EDL and the guy says ‘I would have no problem letting them build mosques her if we could go to Mecca and build mosques. I’d like to see a mosque in Mecca’ wtaf?

🙈

If he'd like to see a mosque in Mecca, he'd better start saving. Hajj is an expensive business.

Honestly - some of them have nothing but hate between their ears.

It’s isn’t compassion when you make it about yourself.

And you are correct yes, this is a chat site. Therefore I can pass my opinion that using the misfortune of others to share the story of your tears, doesn’t make you compassionate at all.

It’s also the reason why Comic Relief stopped sending British celebs to Africa, because people don’t need to see their tears and their compassion. The story isn’t about them. Save the tears, no one needs them.

Go bake your cake love and see if that helps.

It will.

Even a smile helps. I was driving along the Marylebone Road on the evening of 7/7 (and wondering, since I hadn't heard the news all day, why it was so empty) when a woman wearing hijab started to walk across the road at the lights I was stopped at. She looked miserable, so I grinned at her in a friendly way, and she lit up from inside. One white person not hating her for what people she had never met had done....

So you go on peddling your bile, dearie, and you will end up one of those miserable, sour old bitches with no friends and nobody who cares when they finally die. Good luck with that.

Flipzandchipz · 05/08/2024 20:13

It’s fucking horrible. My team at work and the wider department I work in are very diverse, we have people of different races/religion some are immigrants and some are not. We have a great culture of working together and celebrating diversity and it’s a lovely place to work. We’ve had comms out today and we are meeting tomorrow to talk about what has been happening and how we can support each other. I just can’t believe that some of my colleagues are having to think about how they get to work and whether they should be travelling in at all. It makes me sad that a minority of people are causing so much trouble, fear, hurt and destruction

Heard some woman on the radio ranting about 'dirty' foreigners and how they are taking all the jobs and money. Wish someone had asked if she works. It was truly disgusting. It is really scary to see what is happening right now. I like in a small rural town which is overwhelmingly white, but not far from where one of the riots was. It is just awful.

Taking jobs and money

idiocy right there

Armychefbethebest · 05/08/2024 20:14

Somebody threw paint all over the Muslim Graves today which i found absolutely disgusting, I live in a heavily populated Muslim area I am so worried about my teens going outside we are white British people of all colour are being affected in different ways.

Do we share neighbours? I could have written an almost identical post. Their children range in age from 4-18 and every single of them are bright, kind, hard working, intelligent and helpful. Their dad is an A&E consultant and I know that he's been called "a fcking P*i" more than once at work

It's awful. I'm furious. It's heartbreaking.

If people want to defend these thugs by suggesting that they're poor and hard done by then that holds no water... millions of people in this country fall into that category and very few of them are trying to burn down hotels or beat up the police
