Just been talking to my neighbour. He and his family are Nigerian. They haven't been here that long. Both work. They have small dcs.
He's had to take today off work as he works in a town that's been targeted and he's scared to travel.

I'm in tears I'm so angry. Those bastards wouldn't know how to fucking spell work. Luckily I got inside before I broke down. Dh is also teary. They're the loveliest family. I'm genuinely scared for my African neighbours. There's a lot of families moved here from the south because of a housing shortage. All of them that I've met are decent lovely people. Wish I could say the same for a lot of people who are from here.

We're broken aren't we? What the fuck is to be done?

I'm hoping it will all peter out now that lots of them have been locked up. The 2011 riots ended pretty quickly once the police started cracking down.

NeedSomeAnswersPlease · 05/08/2024 19:35

I just feel awful. This isn't the country we knew and loved

Is that the one who has mental health issues?!

Don't know if she has mental health issues but she's well known to the police, has plenty of prior convictions and is thoroughly unpleasant to anyone that has a complaint about her business (and there are plenty of complaints). She's also daft enough to go out and riot in a rather recognisable item of clothing.

No idea, haven't seen anything confirming that. She's well known in the city.

@TattiePants omg go and look at the business page on Yelp. The reviews are so funny 😂😂 Facebook page too!

Hopefully the courts coming down on them like a ton of bricks will help. Heavy sentences for riotous behaviour.

Agree and hopefully the message will get out there that if you do riot you’ll be going to prison and this might stop the racist little thugs.

You’re in tears OP?

You've managed to make this post about yourself and your feelings by using the difficult situations of others. How is that helpful to them?

twopercent · 05/08/2024 19:37

The rioters are very small in number, and will be rounded up and charged. Many will end up behind bars. As with the 2011 riots - the streets will be safer after than before, as so many criminals will be tagged, monitored, curfewed or locked away

@Badgertime that's terrible. Who said that ffs?

A boy in her class. Goes on all the time.

I work in secondary myself (not her school) and hear a lot too.

@CastlesinSpain do you really think these imbeciles would join up? Or even pass an aptitude test. I'm sure some do have jobs but I bet the majority don't.

@Badgertime I hope he was disciplined? That needs nipping in the bud.

They're hilarious 😂

My favourite was in response to her arrest video. "The absolute clip of her. Like if you ordered Vicky Pollard off Wish".

Sunnyside4 · 05/08/2024 19:42

I'm white British and wouldn't feel safe going anywhere near the riots (glad I was working in a town yesterday without any trouble!). I can't imagine how people who have come here to make a decent life for themselves, working and trying to fit in with their local community must feel suddenly having to worry about their safety/they don't belong. It's very sad.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 05/08/2024 19:43

@DazedNotConfused1 where exactly in London is it you don’t feel safe?

localnotail · 05/08/2024 19:43

Its horrible... But here's your reason why there are large minority communities in big cities like London - because it feels safer.

@Twistybranch

the op is allowed to start a thread about how she feels.

it may help some posters to have confirmation that decent people don't agree with the thugs and are worried about others & are helping others

If you want to start one to 'help' off you pop.

The only good news today was the troublemakers in Liverpool were all remanded until the end of August / beginning of September apart from the 14 year old who was bailed.

That's brilliant.

No slap on the wrist hopefully, straight on remand until their hearing.

No person on colour should feel unsafe, its abhorrent that racists have rioted and destroyed towns and cities. Make a stand. I'm seeing communities come out to defend their cities and run these right wing thugs out of towns.

alrightluv · 05/08/2024 19:44

@Twistybranch I cried with anger yes. I definitely wasn't attention seeking. I'm talking on here about this disgusting situation. I get enough attention thanks. I'm expressing my feelings. I'm frustrated. There's little I can do.

Some of these comments have been helpful thankfully. It's good to hear the positive stories.

You have got to be fucking kidding me!

Forget the get off the thread comments, I doubt anyone wants you anywhere near the planet with "opinions" like this.

mett · 05/08/2024 19:44

I have a week off and had so much planned for DS aged 5 and I to do together.

We are not white, and have had to spend the last days inside the house, because it is not safe for us to go anywhere.

Lampzade · 05/08/2024 19:45

I know exactly what you mean Op
I have heard so many non white people scared to leave their own home and saddened by the racist thugs rioting in the streets of the UK
It is upsetting to think that non white people will be telling the children not to leave the house because of the risk of attack

Starting a thread by using the pain of others.

How about she gives the platform to those affected and she supports them?

Rather than post and get attention for her tears

Frequency · 05/08/2024 19:45

I'm in the NE and have family in Hartlepool. None of them have mentioned seeing any racism. I work in a very multicultural workplace in Stockton and have not noticed any.

The people of Hartlepool also raised over £11000 for their local mosque to show gratitude for everything the mosque has done for the town (I believe they also raised £3000 for a local shopkeeper who was affected).

I don't think the thugs have as much support as they believe they do.
