I’m already fed up of Starmer as PM

Semi- lighthearted, I know it’s early days, but I’m not convinced of Starmer as an effective leader
He reads from his notes even when giving a short speech; if he really believed in what he is saying, why the need?
He doesn’t seem to have the leadership X factor and doesn’t seem to have a grip on the ongoing riots
Bright new start for UK? Doesn’t feel like it

This - The political elite are so
out of touch with the British working classes. Neither here nor there which party;
They will fuck up this Country even more.

Do you mean the political elite like the Deputy Prime Minister?

Fluufer · 05/08/2024 15:47

NewGirlinClass · 05/08/2024 15:08

Face value. Do you think they will reject many?
Nah nor do I.

Does it change the outcome if they do the same thing slowly?

Hummingbird75 · 05/08/2024 15:52

I agree op. It was a terrible decision to incite more violence. I can only imagine it is a lack of real time experience.

At the risk of repeating myself the tax payer are not paying to put up illegal migrants in hotels, since illegal migrants have no recourse to public money.

So if an illegal migrant is staying in a hotel, which I suppose they may be, they will be paying for it themselves and contributing to the UK economy.

So if you're saying that anyone who enters this country by whatever means, be it by boat or lorry etc, and they are put in a hotel until their application is processed is not at this point illegally here, what happens once all the checks are done and they have no right to remain here?

Do they then have to pay the money back or do the Government claim the hotel cost back from their country. Because the money has to come from somewhere.

Are you confusing this with the thread about Farage?

@Hummingbird75 will you join me in condemning everyone who throws bricks at the police?

Notonthestairs · 05/08/2024 15:54

Criminal behaviour (arsonists and looters) requires punishment.

No I was agreeing I am already fed up with Starmer.

Of course no one should be throwing bricks or being harmful or violent in any way - I think that goes without saying. What a strange thing to post.

Its not me saying it, it is the law that says it.

Do you believe in thee rule of law?

StuckintheRutt · 05/08/2024 16:00

Also the youngsters who are rioting, the full forces of the law doesn't mean much in isolation to them. Why not spell out what it actually means in terms of criminal record, borrowing money etc

So what is this:

“Rachel Reeves will blame asylum hotel bill for black hole in public finances
Chancellor’s speech will claim Tory policy’s ‘hidden’ £10bn cost is three times previous estimates”

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-66855830

The government money is from taxpayers.

StuckintheRutt · 04/08/2024 17:31

There is an element of far right thuggery here but I bet many of these disaffected young men wouldn't know their arse from their elbow on these issues.
It's something to do like football violence.

Why not reassure them, I kmow you feel xyz... We labour speak for you, please go home and we will make levelling up your areas a priority etc.
We are working to "stop the boats" " this is what we have already done.

Etc.

Calling them all far right thugs is not helping at all.

That approach wouldn't work. I think that would just make them think they have a point. Just my opinion though.

They don't care about anyone, they're just in it for the mob mentality and violence. Why on earth would people take their kids to this is beyond me. I saw that one kid said it was the best time he'd ever had. What a scary future ahead 😞

StuckintheRutt · 05/08/2024 16:14

@anon20 perhaps.
It's a fine line to walk.

At the very least why not spell out what the full force of the law means and what a criminal record does to your life. Many of these folks are very young and they will have no context.

You must be furious at the Tories for having let the situation get so bad? They created this situation of hordes of asylum seekers in hotels by building up a massive backlog in processing claims by refusing to process them. This then also provided a focus for these rioters. Entirely down to Tory policy.

I think the Tories let people down on immigration as did Labour before them, but I'm not going to say too much about that as I don't think now is the right time.

On 3 July I responded to a thread titled what are you most looking forward to if Labour win and I replied:

I look forward to an abandonment of the Sunak threads and new ones such as:
The Wondrous World of Labour - thread 1
May Rayner reign forever - thread 2
The world is all youth, freshness and laughter under the lefties - thread 3
Starmageddon never happened tuh - thread 4
Taxes, taxes, get a taxi Starmer - thread 5
Shit! The unions wont pipe down - thread 6
Shit! Women are being told to pipe down - thread 7
Shit! It's all going tits up - thread 8

My goodness...they are on thread 4 and it really is Starmageddon. I was half joking and although I didnt vote for Labour, saw the need for change. The conservatives were not conservative enough for me and needed a kick up the jacksy.

I did not expect such a spiral so quickly. They need to take control. And quick. Before they sink again after Rachel Reeves' budget.

It is a comment on asylum seekers.

Seeking asylum is a perfectly legal thing to do.

W inter F uel A llowance WFA WFA WFA.

See I can do that as well.

I don't know if you called it the WFA earlier in this thread because I'm too lazy to look back and I didn't want to make the point to anyone in particular, anyway.

I wanted to make a general point to anyone who cared to read it that the money which Gordon Brown introduced in 1997, to be paid to all pensioners then, was, and still is, called the Winter Fuel Payment.

I have seen it written WFA more than once in the last week, maybe on threads, maybe in the papers, and I know it's not WFA, it's WFP. That's what the DWP call it.

Now, the winter before last some people got a rebate of £110 on their Council Tax, and some people got a £400 allowance for electricity over a six month period to help in the winter. I suppose those could have been referred to, loosely, as winter fuel allowances. They were paid by the Tory government of the time, probably prodded partly to do it by the then opposition, but nothing at all to do with the WFP.

In the Oxford Dictionary the meaning of allowance is a sum of money paid regularly to a person to meet needs or expenses.

The example given is "the elderly receive a heating allowance every winter".

Sadly that is no longer the case.
