I’m already fed up of Starmer as PM

Semi- lighthearted, I know it’s early days, but I’m not convinced of Starmer as an effective leader
He reads from his notes even when giving a short speech; if he really believed in what he is saying, why the need?
He doesn’t seem to have the leadership X factor and doesn’t seem to have a grip on the ongoing riots
Bright new start for UK? Doesn’t feel like it

Not so little, is it?

Well it is really, but I was talking about your little fan club on here.

Not remotely over-sensitive at all.

So little that our new government has a majority of 176 seats. You’re going to have a very miserable five years if you don’t start coming to terms with it. I’d feel sorry for you if I hadn’t spent 14 years sitting where you are.

Starmer and the Labour party in general hate the working classes:

1 - The working class voted 52% for Brexit, SKS does his best to overturn it as that majority isn't enough in his opinion. Meanwhile he has no such issue with being PM after only 24% voted for him. Hypocrite!
2 - The working classes sick of illegal immigrants getting 4 star hotels and brand new houses that they themselves could never afford. Starmer cancels Rwanda, gives amnesty to those already here and says he'll "talk to Macron" to smash the gangs. Macron says he's not interested and the gangs will keep popping up. SKS has no plan.
3 - Endless U turns before and since the election.
4 - Taking winter fuel payments off the elderly who suffer from the cold more than any other group.
5 - The working class suffer from crime disproportionately more than other groups... So Starmer to let 10,000 criminal out early in to these same communities.

He's only been in power a month and his relentless attack on the working class has only just begun. I see their supporters in this thread are busy justifying all these things. Sad people.

This is bollocks. Get a grip.

IClaudine · 05/08/2024 13:02

Before the GE there was thread after thread after thread bemoaning selfish pensioners and their winter fuel payments, pensions, houses etc. etc.. Now suddenly there is all this faux concern. Funny thing, eh?

I don't agree with the Winter Fuel Payment decision, btw, as too many pensioners who are only a few quid over the limit for PC will lose out. It needs a rethink.

The riots have been a baptism of fire for Starmer. How is he doing so far?

Well his speech on a podium outside No.10 was ill advised and avoided any mention of immigration- the major underlying cause.

Many of the rioters will (have) been Labour working class voters. To brand them all EDF, Far right, uneducated thugs is hardly going to quell things.

A prime minister is supposed to bring people together.
Sure, condemn the violence. Make it plain that the police response will be robust and fair.

But behind the scenes he should be looking at why many people are angry. Don’t add fuel to the fire. Make some statement to the effect that his government is looking at the concerns some people have.

Maybe he doesn’t understand why there is disorder up and down the country?

LlynTegid · 05/08/2024 13:04

My view is that the main benefit of this government is not having the Tories in again for another four or five years. There is a chance at least in some parts of government of competence, which was almost totally absent since 2019 at least.

Appeasement doesn't work. The condemnation is for those who chose violence. And they deserve all of it. Behind the scenes, the government can work on tackling the causes. Hint: it's mostly not immigration, but a lack of investment in education, health, infrastructure, equality of opportunity and training. 14 years' worth of failure. There isn't a quick or simple fix. Violent disorder and lawbreaking shouldn't be rewarded with any kind of sympathy.

Araminta1003 · 05/08/2024 13:10

What is the point of criticising Starmer now though? He is in, for the next 4 years and the last thing we want is more infighting in a party in charge of our country. I am sick and tired of people constantly criticising and undermining those in charge. If you know better, stand as an MP next time and do better.

Anyone with some intelligence knew Starmer wasn’t going to be able to swing a magic wand. So let’s just accept and support him. End of. The bickering can continue when the next election comes round. Tory, Labour or even Lib Dem are all ok and not too different from each other. The far right is what we must now fear and the far left.

BadPennyReturns · 05/08/2024 13:20

Absolutely agreed 100%. But we see it happening with other protests over the past 4 years ie BLM, pro-Palestine, Leeds, the woke toppling statues. No wonder the far right thought they could get away with it.

You break the law you should be punished.

Rummly · 05/08/2024 13:25

Starmer’s at it again! The BBC is reporting him telling the nation that there will be a ‘standing army’ of police officers to deal with rioters.

It’s bad enough when the Tories dress up announcements in bellicose talk, but at least you know that’s their schtick. When Labour do it, it sounds even more pathetic.

The cod-Blairite reliance on tough-sounding but meaningless language is off to a flying start!

Don't feel sorry for me, I thought your little group liked coming on other threads to "play", that's what was said, so that's all I'm doing.

But on a serious note, I was prepared to give Kier Starmer and his party a chance, but I think they have already got it wrong over the WFA. I am shocked that they have targeted a vulnerable group and haven't done it fairly. I really hope they have a rethink on the cut off point.

But that's what happens when you're in power, people criticise you. Blimey, the conservatives put up with it for the last 14 years. Why should it be any different for Labour?

Yep. I'm a fan. Starmer is doing exactly what I want a leader representing me to do and being no tolerance on terrorism.

Saying I love him is this thing called "Common parlance" in English. Like when people say "I love Emma Stone, she's a great actress". It's an idiomatic use, but some people with less experience of the language could find it confusing I guess.

What could any government do? The ‘standing army’ of officers will just be coppers on overtime tracking down scrotes who’ve been filmed at riots.

It’s not the actions I laugh at - Cleverly would have been in the same position a few weeks ago - it’s the puffed-up language. Labour spinners have been addicted to this charlatanism since Blair.

See also: ‘Border Security Command’ (sounds like a crappy ‘70s action show, like The Protectors) and ‘smash the gangs’.

If I am not much mistaken it was not migrants who were rioting?
