I’m already fed up of Starmer as PM

Semi- lighthearted, I know it’s early days, but I’m not convinced of Starmer as an effective leader
He reads from his notes even when giving a short speech; if he really believed in what he is saying, why the need?
He doesn’t seem to have the leadership X factor and doesn’t seem to have a grip on the ongoing riots
Bright new start for UK? Doesn’t feel like it

@taxguru "Did you deliberately miss my point that libraries in our county were only closed in Tory voting towns and villages?"

I didn't miss that point. I could it hard to believe without evidence- but I didn't t miss it....

Poor old Starmer. No wonder he already needs a holibob. Hopefully the pound will recover whilst he’s tanning on a sun lounger, waiting that shit out…

I expect he does need a holiday, however the Telegraph has reported this morning that he’s not having one.

He chaired COBRA from a sun lounger?

Starmer and the Labour party in general hate the working classes:

1 - The working class voted 52% for Brexit, SKS does his best to overturn it as that majority isn't enough in his opinion. Meanwhile he has no such issue with being PM after only 24% voted for him. Hypocrite!
2 - The working classes sick of illegal immigrants getting 4 star hotels and brand new houses that they themselves could never afford. Starmer cancels Rwanda, gives amnesty to those already here and says he'll "talk to Macron" to smash the gangs. Macron says he's not interested and the gangs will keep popping up. SKS has no plan.
3 - Endless U turns before and since the election.
4 - Taking winter fuel payments off the elderly who suffer from the cold more than any other group.
5 - The working class suffer from crime disproportionately more than other groups... So Starmer to let 10,000 criminal out early in to these same communities.

He's only been in power a month and his relentless attack on the working class has only just begun. I see their supporters in this thread are busy justifying all these things. Sad people.

@Araminta1003 that's what I'm thinking long term we would be simply perpetuating this cycle.

I know it can't happen but remember those huge covid hospitals built but never used... I'd have them to educate these people.
I bet many of them are poorly educated.
Let's educate them, give them hope and dreams and aspirations.

Obviously I'm not talking about the 30 plus tattooed with nazi slogans : but those young people.

This is also not an excuse but British life is shit for teens. There is very little to do
In my own area we lost soft plays, go kart track, games place with bowling, lazer quest, decent swimmeg pool and clubs for teens!.

When I was young we had club that did special under 18 club nights. There is absolutely zero now and I'm not...... Not in a deprived area!

Agree; our young people need more support across schooling, mental health, youth services etc. Resources for them have been massively reduced; SEND system is a disaster and many are not engaging with schooling anymore. Its horrendous and I speak from experience when my disabled kids were forced out of school. Our local college is under immense pressure and it is tragic to hear how young people talk about themselves and the hopelessness they feel for the future. I have a colleague who used to work in the prison system; many have low education and unidentified SEND and its estimated that about 25-30% have ADHD. Evidence backs this up.

Notonthestairs · 05/08/2024 11:35

"The working class suffer from crime disproportionately more than other groups... So Starmer to let 10,000 criminal out early in to these same communities."

Because the prisons were at capacity - the Conservatives lengthened sentences without building new prisons to manage the impact.

The Conservatives were warned for years by those in the prison & justice service.

commonslibrary.parliament.uk/what-is-the-government-doing-to-reduce-pressure-on-prison-capacity/

Without early release the justice system would grind to a halt.

It's the result of a failure to plan.

I think times have changed, both societal and technological. 20 odd years ago when it was suggested, people believed that ALL their records would be held on the chip on the card, i.e. medical, criminal, etc. I don't recall politicians saying otherwise.

Now, all it needs is an ID card confirming the person's name, photo and date of birth (basically like the photo driving licence). It could contain a unique reference number (more likely a bar code), to identify them across all governmental databases. But data would not be held on the card chip itself, just the ID. So a police officer could scan the card to see the criminal record. A doctor could scan the card to see medical history. But only via their own access to their own relevant databases. A police officer couldn't see medical history because all they have access to is the police database etc.

Now we have the internet, mobile internet. and 5g rolling out, there's no longer a need for the data to be on the card, just an ID number for the "official" to access the relevant data using their own access credentials.

I think the public would be much more open to such a "modern" card in the knowledge that, say, a thief, couldn't hack their card to see all their data - all they could "hack" would be what was on the card anyway, i.e. name, photo, dob, just like a photo driving licence, or say a credit card.

Societal changes, especially the massive increase in lawlessness (not just rioting and serious crimes, but also the epidemic of low level crime such as shoplifting, anti social behaviour, public transport fare evasion etc), means generally law abiding people want more action against criminals, so would support better ways of the authorities identifying potential criminals.

The French tried to have information about who people were in the 1930s, I am not sure that worked out so well in the end.

On your point two, in the interests of factual accuracy since illegal migrants have no recourse to public funds, they must be paying for the 4 star hotels and new houses for themselves, bringing money into the UK economy.

itsgettingweird · 05/08/2024 12:04

Easter what numbers? The number of immigrants that rise from 200k to 700k under Tory Britain? Those numbers? I'm guessing they are Starmers fault.

Or the rise in asylum seekers world wide that caused us to have an equal rise? Is that Starmers fault?

I don't even blame the Tory's for that - but I blame them for their slogans and performative Rwandan (recirpricol arrangement) plans for stoking hate.

We don't take a disproportionate amount of asylum seekers.

But you know this. You can't answer any challenge. You just reply with a. Uk we of words string together in a sentence to get a response.

Assuming you mean me you are not really challenging and no idea what last paragraph refers to

I have said and will always think the other country I know well is benefiting from a different approach.

I think over the next five years we’ll see more divergence between here and Aus in terms of calm citizens and lack of disorder. Also they will never vote out their border policy, because even Labor there know it would be mad to run on that.

From Aus perspective this approach that leads to disorder and rioting looks like a poor political choice and an odd one

I think smash the gangs is going to be more problematic over time due to sheer numbers of potential traffickers and demand

What are you actually challenging? It sounds a bit like resort to insult over that

The pound is getting hammered this morning.

It's a worldwide thing, which is actually more worrying than a UK only fall- historically, worldwide financial crashes don't usually end well. Hopefully, the US markets will stabilize.

Wonder why that was?

If you have your funding cut by a Tory government, it sort of makes sense to make the cuts in Tory areas - those people voted for the cuts, so obviously won’t mind then, surely?
If that even happened, obviously.

newnamethanks · 05/08/2024 12:36

Such tender feelings in so many of these people, when challenge or request for information instantly becomes an insult. Bewildering.

Like I said though, I don’t believe it happened. However, we did have Sunak recorded saying he was redirecting funds from poor areas to rich ones…

I vote Lib Dem in my area, our local councillor is very good and sorts out loads of stuff. Although we now have a new Conservative local councillor who seems to want to be pro-active so we shall see.

Once again, WFA payments are not means tested. Millions of pensioners who are just above the cut off point for pension credit won't get any help and will struggle to keep warm this winter. Are you glad you voted for this?

The cut off point for WFA needs to be higher.
