I’m already fed up of Starmer as PM

Semi- lighthearted, I know it’s early days, but I’m not convinced of Starmer as an effective leader
He reads from his notes even when giving a short speech; if he really believed in what he is saying, why the need?
He doesn’t seem to have the leadership X factor and doesn’t seem to have a grip on the ongoing riots
Bright new start for UK? Doesn’t feel like it

Have you seen the reports of riots?

It looks so bad tonight

How you manage to blame riots inflamed by right wing politicians and activists and stoked by the previous government’s sloganeering and divisive rhetoric and kicked off by horrible murders which had nothing to do with immigration or asylum seekers or any of the things the rioters bang on incoherently about on a new government I have no idea.

He was a fecking QC! If he's good at anything, it's public speaking! 🤦🏼‍♀️

That’s what’s so surprising. He doesn’t speak well.

Compare him to Blair or (a great Labour figure from the recent past) Bob Marshall-Andrews KC - who are both barristers. Starmer doesn’t come close. He has a terrible droning style.

A whole lot of young men given a criminal record is a problem though because with it, nobody wants to give you a job, insurance or even a mortgage. So then they end up on benefits and we pay the price. They should be put to work in the community to make up for the ills.

They should be sent to Rwanda.

Bloody Starmer, he'd only been in power 5 minutes and Trump nearly got assassinated!

senua · 04/08/2024 22:38

No, he isn't. You couldn't get a straight answer out of him about anything before the election. He sat on the fence about everything.

He’s not sitting on the fence now. He’s speaking very clearly and with passion and anger about the thugs that are doing their best to destroy communities they claim to want to protect.

Ok no argument here with last few words

How anyone can say so far so good when the country is like this

Looking at coverage it’s the opposite of that

Because it takes more than 4 weeks to change a country materially? Im sure you aren’t stupid enough to think otherwise. The country is as it was left by the last government, only without striking doctors and an expensive, illegal and pointless Rwanda ‘policy’. Other actions will take a while to be implemented and have an effect.
Come on, you know this. Don’t be silly.

Nice try but nope.

I thought this became likely on the statement re smash the gangs. He is facing a big problem as numbers track upwards

It’s unlikely he can rid everywhere of trafficking networks and has set himself a near impossible task. Rising numbers is something which ends in public disorder

EasternStandard · 04/08/2024 22:56

As for costly riots are incredibly so. They include damage, police, court system and possible incarceration and more

CassieMaddox · 04/08/2024 23:01

I'm really baffled by the mindset that's more intent on political point scoring and making sure everyone knows "I told you so" than condemning rioters who could well end up killing people.

The rioters are setting fire to hotels. Places where there are families, women and children. Its disgusting and there is no justification whatsoever.

2dogsandabudgie · 04/08/2024 21:55

I didn't come up with the names, already on social media.

You decided to repeat them. Perhaps you thought they were clever?

EasternStandard · 04/08/2024 23:05

That’s why I didn’t vote for a poor trafficking policy that had a likely chance of increasing numbers

Riots and public disorder are incredibly wrecking no matter where

Here or other EU countries

Honestly Eastern. Tone deaf ranting about how you knew what would happen while the country is on fire is at best unnecessary. At worst its making it worse. Maybe consider putting a sock in it until the riots have stopped and then you can crow about just how many racists there are to your hearts content

Some posters seem to want the riots to continue. It is really disturbing.

EasternStandard · 04/08/2024 23:14

I can’t control what people do if politicians make incredibly bad decisions, I can only vote. Obviously any discussion pre GE was as expected

I think this is bad now but over five years and a failing policy? It’s concerning to say the least.

Clearly I would have chosen a different approach and no rioting

John Cleese.

Or maybe Jeremy Clarkson.

IClaudine · 04/08/2024 23:22

You seem to be ignoring what fanned the flames of this. It was not Starmer's policy announcement on trafficking. It was some idiot on SM who made up a lie about the attacker's identity, religion and security risk. As Mark Twain (?) said, a lie was halfway around the world before the truth had a chance to get its boots on.

I hope whoever invented that lie feels the full force of the law.

StuckintheRutt · 04/08/2024 23:22

@Araminta1003 that's what I'm thinking long term we would be simply perpetuating this cycle.

I know it can't happen but remember those huge covid hospitals built but never used... I'd have them to educate these people.
I bet many of them are poorly educated.
Let's educate them, give them hope and dreams and aspirations.

Obviously I'm not talking about the 30 plus tattooed with nazi slogans : but those young people.

This is also not an excuse but British life is shit for teens. There is very little to do
In my own area we lost soft plays, go kart track, games place with bowling, lazer quest, decent swimmeg pool and clubs for teens!.

When I was young we had club that did special under 18 club nights. There is absolutely zero now and I'm not...... Not in a deprived area!

newnamethanks · 04/08/2024 23:23

Oh he's terrible, 4 weeks in and has wife hasn't even bothered to choose the new wallpaper at £800 a roll, hasn't held one party nor hired a bunch of inadequate spads to get pissed on public money and vomit all over the garden. I mean what kind of PM have we got here? It's just not what we're used to. Utter failure.

I reckon the response wouldnt have been much different even if his real name had been released that Tuesday night. Is it Islamophobia fuelling this or just a general xenophobia? I know mosques are being targeted but I feel its more a general xenophobia.
