I’m already fed up of Starmer as PM

Semi- lighthearted, I know it’s early days, but I’m not convinced of Starmer as an effective leader
He reads from his notes even when giving a short speech; if he really believed in what he is saying, why the need?
He doesn’t seem to have the leadership X factor and doesn’t seem to have a grip on the ongoing riots
Bright new start for UK? Doesn’t feel like it

He's fucked! As would anyone in this situation at the moment! Im not a fan but not a fan of any political group ATM! This was a simmering pot and it has boiled over. I'm really not sure how it's going to be resolved?! His last speeches really didn't help, the people outnumber the police 10 to 1 and we don't have enough armed forces to deal with it. It's not going to end well 😔

It would be fine if far right "influencers" weren't gleefully stirring the pot

Maybe if you step away from twitter you will be less scared about the racist far right thugs. They'll all be crying in court soon enough.

He's a politician, or as he says, a public servant. Not a performer.

I want someone of substance, confidence, competence and empathy in a leader. He shoes all these qualities. In all honesty in my experience, leaders who perform to the crowd tend to be rampant narcissists, and I think we've all had enough of those.

The riots have kicked off simply because the previous government stoked up division to such a temperature, that sensing the new government won't tolerate such disgusting behaviour, they're throwing their toys out of the pram.

Really? You honestly think the division in this country is purely stocked by the previous government? Off the top of my head, let's think about two tier policing of demos(not these riots, but BLM, statue pulling, and the pro Palestine demos to the anti lockdown ones), the speaker of the house changing his decisions based on mobs outside Westminster threatening the safety of MPs, oh, and the recent general election had some of the most abusive behaviour to candidates that people disagreed with in living memory. Those are substantive, and we're being responded to by some Tory's (wether you agree with those responses is another matter,), but it is counter productive, and has created negative feelings in the country, that need addressing by calm heads and open debate.

I think some people think we are like Russia.

Perhaps they only have their own experience to go by?

Anyone with legitimate concerns is welcome to air them in a reasonable manner, we are a democracy after all

No, people have been trying to discuss their concerns for years, and were instantly shot down and called racist and bigots. Anyone who has turned to Reform as they feel there is nowhere rose to go, called scum.

There has been no reasonable discussion.

And here we are. Far right riots.

Perhaps if people’s legitimate concerns were heard, we’d avoided this.

2-Tier Kier still isn’t listening and the country is burning.

Would you agree that a reasonable discussion has to be based on facts?

For example that the UK takes far fewer migrants each year than many other countries. Or that the number of illegal migrants arriving in the UK each year is smaller than the size of the UKs largest village.

Livelovebehappy · 04/08/2024 21:18

There were rumours before the election that Sunak actually anticipated things were going to kick off big time with global unrest and potential civil unrest in the UK, and didn’t actually want to be in power during a potential very difficult period. I would imagine Starmer is currently feeling pretty anxious about what lays ahead re the current situation.

Let's not. That's a load of inflammatory rubbish and you should be ashamed

Known as that by people who think they are terribly clever for making silly unfunny jokes about people’s names. Hopeless.

Funny how Labour supporters become sensitive when the jokes are about their party.

I thought you were OK with taking the WFA from pensioners above a certain income? How times change.

Not from pensioners only £3 pounds above PC. They should have said take it from state pensioners if they have an additional pension.

No, I shouldn't be. You should realise that democracy is a balance of opinions, and is a part of life. You should be ashamed for not being able to address issues without name calling.

I doubt it.
I'd far rather have Keir at the helm than the Tories lying and fighting like rats in a sack.

Many cities are showing the far right are in the minority. Most British people won't tolerate this - thugs like Yaxley-Lennon underestimate "British Culture". If people stop scaremongering it will die down.

I'm not a Labour supporter but Rachel Thieves? Are you a wannabe tabloid headline writer?

There are some very odd posts on this thread in a very odd style.

Gaza protesters damaging statues.

Well, you've just done it:"far right". I just stated events that happened. Now, you can think those events are fine and not an issue, but, here's the tricky bit, you have to acknowledge that other people with as much critical thinking capability as you,and in good faith, have a different conclusion on that. I know I'm not far right, and being called so is an unjustified insult, and the problem we have, you and I, if we are to assume you are also in good faith, the people who are far right don't care about your words, and the ones that do ,or did, care are fed up of not having these, or any events, openly discussed as one group of the political spectrum are in the habit of trying to disallow debate.

Those nicknames aren’t to my taste.

But you’d have to agree that Thatcher Milk Snatcher, the Maybot and Kami-Kwasi, among others, were popular among the left.

Yeah, I get called "authoritarian left", "identarian left" or even "libtard" on here regularly. I'm not offended as 1) they are wrong and 2) why is being left wing an insult?

If you don't want to be associated with the far right, don't post far right tropes like "2 tier policing" when there are riots going on.

I like him- he feels like a proper PM and it feels like the adults have taken charge. He's definitely a details man- unlike Boris who basically knew sweet FA and chucked the odd latin phrase around to sound clever. Give the bloke a chance.

It’s chaos though. Looking at the coverage tonight, the rioting is not abating

It was scheduled for this weekend. No more planned is there?

What’s sensitive about my response? I don’t like silly name based ‘jokes’ about anyone. It makes me think the person using them is a bit thick and doesn’t understand the actual issues enough to comment properly.

Mainly because people keep stirring it up.

Good on him. Not caving to extremists is the right approach. Its a shame so many young men are going to carry the consequences of a criminal record though.

Sendnudes · 04/08/2024 21:36

All the leftie loved calling Boris by his Sunday middle name of de Pfeffel. And Dishy Rishi was good.

MsJinks · 04/08/2024 21:36

There's some planned every weekend for a bit yet. However DM has just doxxed Tommy 10 names and called out him stoking the riots - maybe some will read this and simmer. More likely in the U.K. it will rain and that might reduce the interest in riots.
