I’m already fed up of Starmer as PM

Semi- lighthearted, I know it’s early days, but I’m not convinced of Starmer as an effective leader
He reads from his notes even when giving a short speech; if he really believed in what he is saying, why the need?
He doesn’t seem to have the leadership X factor and doesn’t seem to have a grip on the ongoing riots
Bright new start for UK? Doesn’t feel like it

Hilarious that some seem to be trying to suggest that these thugs are looting Shoezone because of pensioners.

Well, in 2011 Labour activists told us that looting shoe shops was a response to the coalition’s policies. 14 months after the previous election.

But you’re right of course. The present rioters are bone-headed racists and thieves. This has nothing to do with Labour policies. In 2011 they were just thieves. That had nothing to do with the then government’s policies. Would be nice to have some consistency about condemnation though.

Anyway, what happened to the demand to de-fund the police? Fascist pigs!

Northernnature · 04/08/2024 20:21

No they are spending billions of taxpayers money on housing illegal people. And people expect him to say something about non white people causing riots and disorder @BIossomtoes .

pointythings · 04/08/2024 20:22

This is just so petty from Labour, it's like their punishing the elderly because that demographic are more likely to vote conservative. Shame on them for targeting a vulnerable group.

It's not punishing the elderly. It's levelling the playing field and making them take their share of the financial pain after 14 years of having been shielded at the expense of the young, the working poor and the disabled. These are also vulnerable groups - older people are not special when it comes to vulnerability.

So not stopping WFA for all pensioners, thank you for the clarification.

Oh come on. The child benefit cap is the same, most people accepted it. Pensioners can take their turn.

The child benefit cap is not the same. The cut off for child benefit is £50,000 a year earnings. The winter fuel allowance cut off is just over £11,000.

Labour are really showing their true colours over this targeting a vulnerable group.

Why would he say something about that when it’s not true? That’s the old abusers’ line “They made me do it”. The riots and disorder are caused by racist thugs, nobody else.

I'm sure you know that asylum seekers are not illegally here until the moment their case has been through the process and their claim considered not valid. Until that moment, they are not here illegally.

mandajane81 · 04/08/2024 20:16

People are fed up of crap goverments. No money being spent in UK(well up North) while they are spending hundreds of thounsands on people here illegally in hotels. What is he saying about the people who have been see/ videoed with machetes????? What did he say about the Leeds protest the other week?

There is no recourse to public money if you are an illegal immigrant.

So presumably if people are here illegally staying in hotels they are spending their own money and contributing to the UK economy.

I'm pretty sure those arriving on a dinghy with no documents are classed as illegal

Two Tier Keir and Let Pensioners Freeze Rachel Reeves...god, this motley crew are making me long for the heady days of the Tory government.

All this tactical voting at the election has led to this government in charge, only 32% wanted them and they jolly well got them! Now the suffering starts.

absquatulize · 04/08/2024 20:28

mandajane81 · 04/08/2024 20:20

And to answer your question he should be blaming all his cronies( conservative, Labour lib dem etc) for not tackling illegal immigration

Last year the number of illegal migrants known to have come to the UK was smaller than the number of people who live in the UKs largest village. That is the scale of the problem.

How can a person be illegal?

At risk of repeating myself, if one is an illegal migrant one has no recourse to public funds, I think you are mistaken in what you are saying.

Not according to international law, they're not. Just because the Tories did a 'This is illegal' piece of legislation classing them as such, that does not override international law. It was another piece of wishful thinking legislation, just as the 'Rwanda is a safe country' legislation was. International law matters.

The pensioner thing is a disgrace and will already lost him a lot of support.

So not stopping WFA for all pensioners, thank you for the clarification.

I doubt anyone has a problem with WFA being stopped for pensioners who can afford to go on cruises or donate it to charity because they don't need it, but it's the ones who only receive the full state pension of £220 a week who will suffer. These pensioners don't quality for pension credit so under this new proposal by Labour won't get the WFA.

Why do you think Age Concern have got a petition going for this? Why do you think Martin Lewis has raised his concerns about this.

The cut off point needs to be higher.

Out of curiosity, when we had a referendum on an alternative voting system did you campaign and vote for change?

@StuckintheRutt "Why not reassure them, I kmow you feel xyz... We labour speak for you, please go home and we will make levelling up your areas a priority etc.
We are working to "stop the boats" " this is what we have already done."

Yeah-appease the rioters. That's a good idea.

t’s only been 4 weeks and he’s already caved in to the junior doctors who still want more, as will everyone else in the public sector now the precedent has been set. What next? Refuse collectors? Ambulance, fire fighters, teachers, GPs...

A Winter of Discontent is on the horizon.

He’s attacked pensioners, albeit they don’t all need the heating allowance but means-testing it would cost as much. He’s attacked the green belt. He’s scrapped the Rwanda plan without offering any alternative. His Chancellor (who appears to be wearing the trousers) is about to break the election promise and raise taxes (and we’re supposed to believe the shadow cabinet had no sight of the financial situation).

Now, over the last couple of days, this cloth-eared response to concerns over uncontrolled immigration, siding against indigenous Brits.

Starmer, and the left, have in their stupidity, even managed to unite the IRA and UDF.

This is just the start, I hope to god that Starmer and his minions reconsider their stance. They have already pushed the country to the brink of civil war and getting heavy, instead of listening will tip the country over the edge.

This is the time to listen, not play the blame game. If the idiot rioters left the mosques alone, the Asian community would also join in. Many of them are as pissed off as the rest of the country.

In any case, Starmer is history... he and his cabinet will not be allowed to stay in office much longer.

Has anyone invoked the lettuce countdown yet?

So if I’ve got this right, reaching a compromise with junior doctors who went on strike is bad because you’re giving in to them and everyone will want more.

Listening to a small minority of people who are attacking police officers, other people, burning libraries and raiding Iceland is good because that definitely won’t encourage more people to do the same.

Sendnudes · 04/08/2024 20:43

Because @Leniriefenstahl he will do alot of damage to the uk. It is natural to want your political opponents to fall if you think they will cause major damage (I'm sure you felt the same way about the tories and that's before you get to all the people that wanted Brexit to fail).

Nobody wanted Brexit to fail. It’s just that anyone looking at the evidence instead of listening to soundbites knew it would.
And I wanted the Tories to lose, not ‘fail’, because they had failed the country and were lying, cheating grifters.

I like him- he feels like a proper PM and it feels like the adults have taken charge. He's definitely a details man- unlike Boris who basically knew sweet FA and chucked the odd latin phrase around to sound clever. Give the bloke a chance.

Agreed. All protesters who either become violent or damage property should be severely dealt with but the police turn a blind eye to some. This is bound to cause division and unrest.

Who do they turn a blind eye to?
