I’m already fed up of Starmer as PM

Semi- lighthearted, I know it’s early days, but I’m not convinced of Starmer as an effective leader
He reads from his notes even when giving a short speech; if he really believed in what he is saying, why the need?
He doesn’t seem to have the leadership X factor and doesn’t seem to have a grip on the ongoing riots
Bright new start for UK? Doesn’t feel like it

Do I take it that you're not a fan of Farage @IClaudine ? Sounds abit like the way I feel about Keir Starmer although people on here don't seem able to compute that we don't all love their hero. One thing I will say about farage (and no he's not my favourite either) is that he is not afraid of meeting members of the public unlike starmer who hides in his bunker as he knows he's unpopular and when he went to Southport and was heckled scurried off out of there as fast as he could.

Do you have evidence that Farage has attended surgeries in his constituency?

MySocksAreDotty · 04/08/2024 17:17

I’m pleased with all the changes he’s made. What would the Tories be doing if they were in charge of the riots?! Arguably their discourse has helped to overheat the issue, I’m thinking of Braverman’s ‘invasion’ rhetoric.

Your pleased he is stopping the winter fuel payment for pensioners??? It could have been means tested, but no let's stop it for all. He is a weak person.

And money taken from pensioners to pay public servants pay increases almost threbble inflation.

I thought you were OK with taking the WFA from pensioners above a certain income? How times change.

Eh ? Do you mean farage? Haven't seen him talking his supporters too riot but I'm sure you have a link @IClaudine Getting back to starmer I see his approval reading has plummeted 16 points to 3% in the last two weeks so he's definitely not very popular apart from with a few mumsnetters.

Nigel Farage says far-right riots nothing compared to 'what could happen'

https://www.thenational.scot/news/24493272.nigel-farage-says-far-right-riots-nothing-compared-what-hap/

Farage had posted a video on X on Tuesday in which he said he had “one or two questions” as he speculated about whether the stabbing suspect was being monitored by security services.....“I just wonder whether the truth is being withheld from us. I don’t know the answer to that, but I think it is a fair and legitimate question,” he said.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/article/2024/jul/31/farage-accused-of-inciting-southport-violence-by-former-counter-terror-chief

"It's all the far-right, as if they're causing all of the problems. No, the far-right are a reaction to fear, to discomfort, to unease that is out there, shared by tens of millions of people....Let me be clear, I don't support street violence, I don't support thuggery in any way at all. But I'm worried not just about the events in Southport, but about societal decline that is happening in our country." I have always gone by the adage "anything before the but is bullshit"

https://www.gbnews.com/politics/nigel-farage-keir-starmer-riots-britain-southport

Any genuine leader would be unequivocally condemning the rioters, not bystanding them. Farage is absolutely a cause of this.

Nigel Farage: Riots nothing compared to 'what could happen in next few weeks'

NIGEL Farage has said that far-right riots in England is nothing compared to “what could happen over the course of the next few weeks”...

Farage will be fully erect at all of this. I doubt it'll get worse. Rent a mob will soon get bored of smashing up their own.

Can you provide a link to WFA being removed for all pensioners, I think I missed the announcement.

Sorry @Northernnature , I meant to edit to clarify my post, but ran out of time.

You'll notice what I posted about Farage was in quotes. That is because they are not my words but those of Dominic Grieve. Ex Tory MP and Attorney General.

Well he certainly isn't calming them down.
Many people have been on TV saying this is a problem.

I totally agree with this. What did he say after the Leeds riots, nothing!!!!! What has he said about people being videoed with machetes etc nothing. Blaming everything on far rigjt

It’s not. The poorest, ie those in receipt of pensions credit, will still get it. It is means tested.

And money taken from pensioners to pay public servants pay increases almost threbble inflation.

The alternative to that is fewer and fewer doctors. Would you prefer that?

HesterRoon · 04/08/2024 20:13

StuckintheRutt · 04/08/2024 17:31

There is an element of far right thuggery here but I bet many of these disaffected young men wouldn't know their arse from their elbow on these issues.
It's something to do like football violence.

Why not reassure them, I kmow you feel xyz... We labour speak for you, please go home and we will make levelling up your areas a priority etc.
We are working to "stop the boats" " this is what we have already done.

Etc.

Calling them all far right thugs is not helping at all.

But they are far right thugs. Who else would make horrific murders all about them?

What is he saying about the people who have been see/ videoed with machetes????? What did he say about the Leeds protest the other week?

That doesn’t really answer my question. But I suppose I should be used to that round here.

anythinginapinch · 04/08/2024 20:18

Well I'm fucking relieved we have labour and not the morons who made up the final Tory cabinet in power.

Sorry, this is what I meant - WFA will no longer be universal. I'm fine with that. When I do finally get to pensionable age, I won't be eligible for it either. And that's OK. The point I made stands - the Tories nursed the pensioner vote and attacked the working poor, the disabled and the young. Now the pain is going to be shared. Fairness.

Oh so I can read sentences then. You might be fine with it not being universal but there are many pensioners who will struggle this year. Let's hope none of them freeze to death.

This is just so petty from Labour, it's like their punishing the elderly because that demographic are more likely to vote conservative. Shame on them for targeting a vulnerable group.

And to answer your question he should be blaming all his cronies( conservative, Labour lib dem etc) for not tackling illegal immigration
