Why are majority of the riots in northern towns?

1000 replies

PhoebeMcPeePee · 04/08/2024 12:13

DH & I were watching the riots on the news this morning like most people absolutely horrified.

He's from one of the northern towns affected although we live in the south and started discussing why these riots now (and historically) tend to be more focused on northern towns but didn't really come up with any one thing. Any thoughts on this?

No. You women who decide to defend these vile illiterate thugs are a huge part of the problem, not me.

MadameMassiveSalad · 04/08/2024 23:28

"Do I mind if the odd neighbour isn’t white British - no. But I want to live in an area with people who are part of my culture."

@Devonbabs Your views are disgustingly racist. Shame on you!

What?

Are you drunk?

Tatare · 04/08/2024 23:28

You're such a tit @Needspace2023, why didn't you stay in Leeds after university? I bet they loved you there!

AdviceNeeded2024 · 04/08/2024 23:29

@Needspace2023

Once you’ve located a dictionary to check your appalling spelling, could you please respond to my question about knife crime in London, and how many young people have died, thank you.

The thread is "Why are the majority of riots in northern towns".

I'm unwell with a high temp today and I'm starting to wonder if this whole thread is some kind of weird fever dream.

History tells us that when the there is a higher percentage of disenfranchised white men unrest occurs. This group are also generally ripe for exploitation from those who seek to benefit from their destruction and political unrest.

It's in the mainly north at the moment, but back in the 1930s it was in East London e.g. the battle of cable street and I wouldn't be surprised if we don't start having more in the south too. My friend's white wc 30 something husband is a huge Andrew Tate fan and he is ready to get fighty on the streets because 'they don't listen and 'insert racist slur' keep coming over here and fucking up our country'.

@Wonderfulstuff Why on earth are you still friends with someone who is married to a "huge Andrew Tate Fan"? Why have you not run a mile?

Well you are obviously on the fringes of what is acceptable in terms of location. Don’t diminish other people’s experiences of which are probably far more hostile than yours.

How would you even know that, sorry but you wouldn’t know anything about my experiences. It is not about the location it is about an accent that is a marker of what you are, where you are from.

They did check them out but when you live in London this is not variety as you know it, especially if you have grown up in very diverse part of North London. Running out of real coffee at a station would be unheard of in the south.

I’m a Londoner born and bred (lived in East and North London) and I have no idea what you are talking about. I’ve visited Leeds several times and it has a great range of bars and restaurants. Obviously London is a bigger so there are more options but comparatively speaking Leeds offers a similar level of diversity. I can’t quite work out what you mean by the station running out of real coffee. Leeds Central Station? There about a dozen coffee shops in that station not to mention the wonderful Laynes espresso bar around the corner.

I’m also completely baffled by your previous comment about London in the 1990s😂

Goldenbear · 04/08/2024 23:22

Is that worked out per 1000 of the population? It would still be high though. Is Hate crime racist crime? (Honestly don’t know)

That’s my bad, I meant to say racial hate crimes, but I’m typing this on my phone and coming up with so many typos that I shortened it for ease 🤣
I just want to clarify that I’m not hating on the good folk of the London area or the south of England in general, I was taking aim at the stirrer “needspace23” poster who keeps bleating on about how London is completely against racism and everyone in London stops racism in its tracks before it starts-also that all racists come from the deprived North 🤣🤣

Because I’ve lived it, and you described it as ‘quaint’ that was very very far from my experiences.

Needspace2023 · 04/08/2024 23:31

Your answers: " they have grievances"
Get real. They are racist illiterate thugs and they've been allowed to get away with it for far too long. Media, government all are to blame.

Posters.

Is that what we all said is it?

I'll wait for you to go back through the thread and find a post by me that suggests anything like that.

Needspace2023 · 04/08/2024 23:34

I went to Leeds in the late 90s???
Yes there was a Harvey Nichols back then too 😂
It still had a massive underclass and a racism problem.
My bad if im out of date. That person really wanted tp know of i ever lived out of London
Yeah I did.

Your response to my question on knife crime in London? You’re purposefully ignoring that inconvenience to your narrative.

Tatare · 04/08/2024 23:36

C'mon @Needspace2023, let the dog see the rabbit, I'm super-interested in where you're from.

Pray tell.

BlackShuck3 · 04/08/2024 23:36

Much of England is uneducated
@Needspace2023 you're exaggerating surely?
Don't you mean 'Much of England is not educated to as high a standard as they might be'?

That is what plenty said to enrage me.
Listen, the country is in a very dark place and I am sickened by what I am seeing. Setting fire to a library and a hotel housing refugees!
And people are being defensive?!

Why are you baffled by London in the 1990s what are you talking about, it was really racially divided where I lived? What’s the bafflement about?

It was on a train not at the station I corrected my post and I actually didn’t realise I had named Leeds I was supposed to not name it but it did happen to a colleague of someone who I know really well. Tbf I didn’t know about the hate crime attacks in London being that high so I have learnt something tonight.

TeenLifeMum · 04/08/2024 23:37

Weymouth is pretty far south… they’re planning to riot in Plymouth tomorrow.

I largely blame media and online communities. My dad fully believes “they” (non white people) are to blame for everything and all his news comes from twitter. My teens have better judgement re online content! Luckily, he also hates thugs so he won’t riot, instead he’ll make racist comments. He never used to be like this to this extent. It’s depressing. I ignore it now because giving it attention seems to encourage him further.

CheatingMenz · 04/08/2024 23:38

@Anonym00se
Because property prices are higher in the south, on average council tax bands are higher. My house in London is band F but my dad's house (same size but in East Anglia) is band D because when the bands were set in 1991 my house would have been worth considerably more than his.
I pay annually £3300 and he pays £2200. That's £75pm difference.
Pay in London isn't always much higher. My DC both work in the NHS.
Band 5 central London £35964, edge of London £31469 and rest of England £29970. Housing renting and buying, is probably about 2-3 times more expensive in London but you don't earn twice as much.
Council Tax, hospitality, entertainment, car insurance are all more expensive too.
There definitely needs to be a great deal more investment in the deprived areas around the country. The 14 years of Tory austerity have caused an increasing divide. Levelling Up sadly was nearly all talk and no action.
Also the rhetoric from the Tories on immigration hasn't helped. Stop the Boats continually and Braverman's invasion talk had all added fuel.

What has knife crime got to do with the riotting and racism???????????
I am sorry but many of you are in denial or bloody complicit.
