Why are majority of the riots in northern towns?

DH & I were watching the riots on the news this morning like most people absolutely horrified.

He's from one of the northern towns affected although we live in the south and started discussing why these riots now (and historically) tend to be more focused on northern towns but didn't really come up with any one thing. Any thoughts on this?

I'm from London and grew up in a deprived area that had plenty of National Front presence.

We got quite a few refugees in my school during the war in Kosovo in the 90s and the poor kids got the shot beaten out of them because the local idiots felt they'd jumped the housing list.

Racism was absolutely rife.

Because you get pigeon holed and taken the piss out of, and inferred you are thick. Usually by people from the south, who consider themselves educated and some would say have a stick up their arse. Experienced it more than once as have others I know.

And this is absolutely not all people from the south, not at all. Usually a sector who think they are ‘elite’. Funny I’ve never experienced this anywhere but near London 🤷‍♀️

None of them are from the south as I thought I heard some accents that are perhaps east side counties of London?

You must have lived in a much better part of London than I did as there was absolutely extreme right wing Londoners in the 90’s, it was very scary and violent. The Anti Nazi league were vocal of course.

But, many of those who destroyed my community were also born in Britain, second/third generation immigrants. They just didn’t want to integrate into British life even though they were born here. I didn’t want to repeat this.

I can't help wondering whether a significant proportion of the "protestors" (aka hooligans and looters) are just out for a ruck and a bit of fun on a warm summer night, now that theyve been forced off the football terraces. Surely 11 and 12 year old can't yet have deep seated feelings of "wanting their country back" or anger at the powers that be.
However, I'm equally sure that northern communities have been let down hugely over decades, most recently by Johnsons levelling up that never happened. I hope Labout gets on with that ASAP.

Barking Council almost became wholly BNP controlled in 2006. They got 12 people in.

But those kind of people would take the piss out of anyone who has an accent that isn’t modern RP. They think the ribbing is justified as they are used to it from their school life and total lack of awareness of anybody outside of that bubble. They think it’s quaint. I thought I didn’t have an accent and people couldn’t place me in the south but actually I very much sound like I am from West London apparently as soon as people knew I was from London.

Yes i remember it. East London was nasty then. Im a West Londoner and we had Notting Hill race riots aka far right thugs. My point is Londoners always put up a good fight.
I want other parts of the country to do the same instead of weak excuses about grievances amongst an underclass. The Muslims and refugees from war torn countries did not cause this.

Please link to the stats you obviously have that tells you everyone involved in these riots is only from the north and the midlands and that refugees or Muslims have not been welcomed and accepted into the community of any place that isn’t London. Please. Are Devon and Cornwall and Somerset and Kent and everywhere that are not northern or midlands ‘demonise’ refugees and Muslims or is it just your narrow minded, classist view of the north?

You think we don’t have diversity and multiculturalism north of London and that we agree with the scenes we’ve seen over this weekend? Really??

You might want to look at some statistics. The London Metropolitan area is THE most racist part of the entire UK. In face, large swathes of the south of England factor in the top 10 of the most racist hate crimes. London and surrounding areas are known throughout the UK as being incredibly racist. You and your 3 friends might pride yourself on fighting the good fight, but your micro view of the south of England is not the reality.
How much racism have I seen as a born and bred northerner of the last 41 years? None. Exactly none. I’ve lived in predominantly white towns, I’ve lived in multicultural towns and I’ve lived in towns with a large Eastern European population. People just get along.

Edit- I can understand the sentiment- in the heat of the moment, but I dont want people being gunned down in the streets by the army.

My point is in London, just by its nature of beong so huge and multicultural we counter racism before it turns into thuggery.
