I'm so mortified by what this woman said to me, I don't want to go back to the gym.

I'm so embarrassed. I have lost 4 stone in the last year by eating more healthily and I started going to the gym about 6 months ago in a bit to become more toned and generally feel better. I'm now a size 12 and happy enough with that. I'm 57 and I haven't found it easy.

I really enjoy the gym now and go about 4/5 times a week, on my own, and do my own thing. I feel great. This evening as I was just about to start using the rowing machine, a woman (who is super fit and absolutely stunning) approached me and said 'I don't mean to be rude, but those leggings do nothing for you because you can see your cellulite through them, you might be better with joggers'. She then went back to her equally stunning friend and they seemed to have a good old giggle.

I'm so mortified. My leggings are normally Sweaty Betty ones, not 'up the bum' ones and I wear a long tee shirt too. I felt quite good when I went in tonight and now I'm back to feeling like an overweight old bag and I never want to set foot in there again. I will though, I've worked hard to feel healthier - I just understand why anyone would say something like that. I daresay she can see my cellulite, but why bring someone down like that?

I'm close to your age, and my view is that if by my age I still worry about what others might think about my appearance, I've done life wrong.

It's about having a body that works well, is fit and allows you to do the things you want to do without hurting too much most of the time.

Well done on your progress towards that!

Whilst I totally agree with you and your attitude, it’s completely different having someone’s unwanted comments pushed on you. OP wasn’t worried about others opinions until she had one shoved down her throat, and you’d have to have very thick skin indeed not to feel hurt by being randomly approached and insulted in this way.

It’s shocking and I think shows how deeply insecure this ‘stunning’ woman really must be if she feels threatened enough to come and make a nasty comment to try and knock OP’s confidence.

OP please don’t let this woman stop you going there wearing what you like. Report to the management definitely!

HettieBettyBoo · 03/08/2024 22:55

There’s a couple of books called How to Stop Being a Bitch. I’d buy one, present her with it at the gym and say what @GoFigure235 suggested. Smile and walk away, job done.

People like Cunty Chops you met at the gym relish the fact that no-one stands up to them. Be that person @DeclansAFeckingDream give Cunty Chops a taste of her own medicine ☺️

Edited to add well done on your weight loss.

Well done on your weight loss and on getting fitter. Some people have no social skills.

What a dreadful comment to make to someone. She's very bitchy and there was no need to say it.
Easier said than done I know, but just ignore her and continue doing what you're doing which seems to work for you.
Just remember she'll be 57 one day and having gone through the menopause by then, she'll be having her own issues with cellulite and likely a whole lot more besides 😎

828Pax · 03/08/2024 22:56

She is the one that should be mortified for being such a nasty, nasty bitch! You should absolutely fab and well done for losing 4 stone, that is an incredible achievement.

Elly46 · 03/08/2024 22:56

What a nasty and superficial bitch. Rise above it and carry on as you were. These people don’t matter

PointsSouth · 03/08/2024 22:57

If you're liable to pay attention to the comments of complete strangers, can I just say that you're absolutely brilliant - committed, focussed, fearless and inspirational.

I was typing too fast in anger at what the lady said to you and made a typo! It's mean to say 'you sound absolutely fab'

BrightYellowDaffodil · 03/08/2024 22:57

Could you possibly manage to think that she's done you a favour with a style tip

Pointing out someone’s perceived body flaws in relation to their clothing choices is not a fucking “style tip” so no, she hasn’t done OP “a favour”. Give over with that minimising nonsense.

Don't you worry OP. Karma will catch up with her.

Cherrysherbet · 03/08/2024 22:57

She’s ugly on the inside. That’s way harder to change than a pair of leggings.

Keep it up op. I think you are fabulous.

Summerbay23 · 03/08/2024 22:57

OMG I haven’t heard anything ruder! Honestly, hold your head high, I am in awe of your fitness schedule, I’m only slightly younger (but unfit and overweight) and I think you are awesome. Who gives a tiny shit about someone who is clearly a totally rude and insignificant individual. You are the role model here!

BCBird · 03/08/2024 22:57

She is a cow. No need. Wear them.if u want. Don't act on her unwanted advice. Well done on weight loss

lljkk · 03/08/2024 22:58

Princess Diana had cellulite... I mean, it's actually very normal !!

Why would she come say that to you? What did she hope to achieve. WEIRDO Alert.

Runnerinthenight · 03/08/2024 22:58

Well done on all you have achieved - you're inspirational!

As for her, well you may have cellulite but at least you're not a cunt!

Hold your head high and keep wearing the leggings! xx

leeverarch · 03/08/2024 22:36

I would ask to speak to the manager, and tell them what happened to you. This is completely unacceptable.

Good idea.

Icepearl · 03/08/2024 22:59

What a bitch. I would 100x rather go to the gym with you not her. She probably just wanted you to move from that piece of apparatus so she could use it, and found that insulting people gets it for her. She wasn't stunning, she was ugly, I can tell that from here

GameOfJones · 03/08/2024 22:59

Please, please report this to the gym management and tell them that it's made you feel you don't want to go back. They will have it on camera if you let them know quickly.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 03/08/2024 23:00

Devonbabs · 03/08/2024 22:48

WTAF. Are you seriously considering that this woman’s comments were ok in the first place?

I’m suggesting the OP rule out the potential for her leggings to be see through at the back.

ladygoingGaga · 03/08/2024 23:00

She sounds terribly insecure, and can clearly only feel better about herself by putting others down. See her for what she is an empty and unkind person who is going to end up lonely.

Do not let her steal your joy or achievement, revel in your success and fucking own it girl!!

Blogswife · 03/08/2024 23:01

What a pathetic , sad , nasty, cow ! Well done for losing the weight and working on your own fitness . I’m a similar age & size to you . I go to the gym regularly ( looking a fright most of the time ). I don’t care what anyone else thinks , its not a bloody fashion show so please don’t let her own insecurities affect you .
I bet you look a damn sight better than she will when she’s your age !

iamsoshocked · 03/08/2024 23:01

4 stone!! wow! really well done. I need to loose 3 and I'm finding it really hard at age 54. SO well done.

You sound a much better person than the gym-bitch!! Just smile and feel smug knowing you're better than her. x

AIstolemylunch · 03/08/2024 23:01

Lilysgoneshopping · 03/08/2024 22:18

Speak the gym manager. That was bang out of order

Yeah this is what I'd do. Tell as many of the staff and anyone you talk to about her and what she said and point her out to everyone. Everyone will hate her and give her dirty looks, make her feel even more uncomfortable than she made you. Also, wear thise leggings to death!

Allthislovelygreen · 03/08/2024 23:01

Wtf this woman was nuts! Please just ignore ore her and don't even think of her comment, it was stupid

3CustardCreams · 03/08/2024 23:02

What a nasty woman. Don’t let her bring you down. I’m sure you look great. She will be 57 if she’s lucky one day - and even if you’re the most stunning woman ever - her body will change. 100% ignore.
