I'm so mortified by what this woman said to me, I don't want to go back to the gym.

I'm so embarrassed. I have lost 4 stone in the last year by eating more healthily and I started going to the gym about 6 months ago in a bit to become more toned and generally feel better. I'm now a size 12 and happy enough with that. I'm 57 and I haven't found it easy.

I really enjoy the gym now and go about 4/5 times a week, on my own, and do my own thing. I feel great. This evening as I was just about to start using the rowing machine, a woman (who is super fit and absolutely stunning) approached me and said 'I don't mean to be rude, but those leggings do nothing for you because you can see your cellulite through them, you might be better with joggers'. She then went back to her equally stunning friend and they seemed to have a good old giggle.

I'm so mortified. My leggings are normally Sweaty Betty ones, not 'up the bum' ones and I wear a long tee shirt too. I felt quite good when I went in tonight and now I'm back to feeling like an overweight old bag and I never want to set foot in there again. I will though, I've worked hard to feel healthier - I just understand why anyone would say something like that. I daresay she can see my cellulite, but why bring someone down like that?

What a bitch! I’m sorry that happened to you. I can’t think of a single good reason someone would say that. Hugs.

WhereAreWeNow · 03/08/2024 22:14

I can't imagine anyone thinking it was OK to say something like that OP. Says more about her than it does about you. Try not to let her get to you.

BarbaraVineFan · 03/08/2024 22:15

I'm so sorry that happened to you. That woman was a first class bitch and what she said to you has no value whatsoever. Please take no notice and continue going to the gym. You sound awesome

That’s really nasty.

And you sound amazing, especially since you’re not letting her put you off. Good on you.

bergamotorange · 03/08/2024 22:15

Please stop and think about what must be going wrong inside that woman to behave in that way.

Having some cellulite can never be as bad as being a person who would say something like that.

You look absolutely fine and, more importantly, you're not an unkind person with unresolved emotional problems.

Alwaysoneoddsock · 03/08/2024 22:15

She is not a nice person. Probably was a school bully. I need to lose four stone and you are my inspiration!!

HolyStyleFailBatman · 03/08/2024 22:16

what an absolute cow she is! I'm outraged on your behalf. Well done on your accomplishments, don't let this unsisterly bitch put you off staying healthy. May she develop a disfiguring skin condition and lose her front teeth!

Jennalong · 03/08/2024 22:16

Her comment says a lot more about her than you . Ignore her & her catty friends , and keep doing & going to the gym !
Well done on the weight loss , bet you look fab .

DoubleCoatedDogs · 03/08/2024 22:16

What an absolute fucking bitch.

Lemonademoney · 03/08/2024 22:17

What an awful person! Wow 😮

Hollytreenew · 03/08/2024 22:17

How horrible of her! Sorry that happened to you. You are doing amazingly and should be proud, don’t let them take that away from you.
are there any other gyms you could try out? Some gyms have different cultures, of course that doesn’t stop there being the odd idiot though. And you shouldn’t have to move either, you have just as much right to be there too, wearing what you want to. Try not to worry about her. One day she will probably regret saying that, unfortunately not soon enough!

Pinkypinkyplonk · 03/08/2024 22:17

Because there’s nothing about her, ignore. She’s not worth your time.

BellesAndGraces · 03/08/2024 22:17

Most gyms have a code of conduct that require members to be respectful and courteous to other members. Next time you see her, I would point her out to a member of staff and ask them to speak to her about harassing other members.

Namechangeforthis88 · 03/08/2024 22:17

I'd rather be you than her.

Work2live · 03/08/2024 22:17

She might be super fit and absolutely stunning but she’s obviously a very ugly person inside. I’d pity her.

Well done on your incredible weight loss. Please don’t let this woman put you off going back to the gym. If she approaches you again, just completely ignore her.

If I saw someone say anything like that in my gym I’d wipe the floor with them.

EweCee · 03/08/2024 22:17

Holy crap, what a bitchy thing to say to anyone, let alone someone focussing on their own workout in a gym! Ignore her, you probably were working out so well that you were making her feel inferior so she used the only thing in her arsenal - bitchiness!

silverhamster · 03/08/2024 22:17

I'd wait till you see her again and then tell her that her external looks do nothing for her because her ugly personality shows right through. And that one day, if she is really lucky, she will live long enough for her looks to change and her legs get bumpy (because that's age), and she won't even have an attractive personality.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 03/08/2024 22:17

Who cares what she thinks - it’s the gym not a catwalk! You are wearing gym clothes that are suitable and practical for a workout.

There is nothing wrong with having a normal female body - including cellulite.

Congratulations on getting healthier and enjoying your new lifestyle, don’t let 1 person put you off doing something you enjoy,

(As previous posters have said - how insecure must she be to need to make comments like that for self validation)

Pinkypinkyplonk · 03/08/2024 22:17

Namechangeforthis88 · 03/08/2024 22:17

I'd rather be you than her.

Exactly

OkapiSandwichAndARoastEgg · 03/08/2024 22:17

Just be glad you are not her. What sort of person would say that to another person? Get them leggings back on girl. She is the ugly one.

MamaGarl85 · 03/08/2024 22:18

There is no excuse for someone to put another person down, well done on what you have achieved!

Lilysgoneshopping · 03/08/2024 22:18

Speak the gym manager. That was bang out of order

honeyfox · 03/08/2024 22:18

Absolute bitch. Don't let her stop you going, you're doing brilliantly!

Lifelover16 · 03/08/2024 22:18

I hope the nasty comments just inspire you to be even more determined!
Congrats on your achievement!

HolyStyleFailBatman · 03/08/2024 22:18

I suggest you start wearing scrunchy bum leggings and a crop top the next time you attend the gym
