This is bloody worrying. Far right thugs planning protests/attacks on immigration lawyers -

We are aware of a potential protest being organised in Nottingham on Wednesday evening.

The location has no links to the business advertised on the internet.

Officers have visited the address and it is home to an elderly person with vulnerabilities.

x.com/nottspolice/status/1820779438751052064?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

(Not that attacks on places of work are ever justifiable but frightening when vulnerable individuals are targeted)

Awful. And predictable.

I have to confess that in my experience of immigration lawyers some of them were imo quite exploitative of their clients. And I did think that the immigration rules and their administration had huge issues. I don’t think I ever understood why the system was allowed to operate as it did (it changes so frequently that immigration lawyers make very good money due to that).

Once these riots are dealt with then there should be some consideration of our system properly and not just another quick consideration and no extra staff. What purpose should it serve with regards to the UK and the current population? It should have one. I wouldn’t actually know at present.

I think Braverman has gone quiet because she would now be a victim to the very people she's given a red light to to behave this way.

People opening cars last week to check if people were British or not didn't give 2 hoots if they were British.

They acted what they looked like - did they look British is their eyes.

She helped create this with her invasion language.

She's back herself into a corner. One can only hope she stays there 😂

The comments on that thread 🤮

I have mostly stopped reading comments but if I do then I quickly scroll past all the blue ticks

I hope she finds a good lawyer. Contemptible person who played with fire and now the country is literally burning.

The epitome of someone who actually believes her own hype being in the Westminster bubble where of course she can spend her time being rude to liberals and fusspots who like things like the rule of law. Easy stuff. No consequences for her immediately so she spouts anything that suits her advancement at the time.

A thread about court appearances

https://x.com/JoshHalliday/status/1820776498917224511

“What a laugh,” says 38-year-old Christopher Rodgers as he’s remanded to custody after being charged with violent disorder at the Rotherham riot. He’s just pleaded not guilty at Sheffield magistrates’ court. Custody means Rodgers will miss a family holiday in two weeks.

Joshua Simpson, 25, is next up. He pleads guilty to assaulting an emergency worker - a police officer whose shield he forcefully kicked while shouting “fucking wankers”.

Oh, I just saw the rather panicked message from MNHQ. Maybe they should remove emoji if they don't like them being used to convey a reaction that it's difficult to get across with just words.

Saucery · 06/08/2024 13:41

Oh dear, I just used a couple on another thread Grin 🙄. Curtains for me then? Wink

Posting along the lines of “two tier policing……handing extremists opportunities….” etc is ok, but 🙄😕Hmm isn’t? Good to know 👍

@CassieMaddox Flowers <wonders if Flowers is banned>. <worries if Cassie is allergic to Flowers and Flowers thus seen as Goady>

God, I miss PJ O’Rourke!

bombastix · 06/08/2024 13:44

Fgs. You can have racism but not emojis? Honestly that is weak

MissMarplesNiece · 06/08/2024 13:46

didnt help that our own local MP (Tamworth and Labour) made a bloody speech in the commons about residents wanting’their hotel back’

MPs had already previously been asked not discuss the locations of accommodation being used to house asylum seekers but this MP ignored the request. Also, the people in the accommodation are residents of that Constituency - I assume some of them may need to speak to the local MP because of issues they experience, with for example their asylum claims. Do MPs just ignore and not help those people?

@TheOnlyMrsW please can you say where you saw the Fallout 'We didn't start the Fire' clip?? It would cheer up Ds no end.

Hopefully this works, another poster mentioned it over the weekend but the thread moved so fast I can't remember who it was! Also whoever was off to see Billy Joel, hope you had a splendid time, DH and I had a mad couple of weeks pre-covid where we did Download, Foo Fighters and Billy Joel in the same fortnight 😊

Fall Out Boy - We Didn't Start the Fire (Lyric Video)

I thought about this song a lot when I was younger. All these important people and events- some that disappeared into the sands of time- others that changed ...

Hi all,
We're still seeing obvious goading on here, could we knock it on the head so that the thread can continue? eg if you find yourselves poised to post comedy eye emojis, we would politely ask that you reconsider unless you are very certain that you are being amusing. Also, it would be very helpful for us busy mods at MNHQ if you would use the 'quote' function that we have provided as it makes deletions (when we need to make them) very much easier and faster.

We have directed a couple of threads to this one in order to keep the conversation broadly in one place so would expect to see eg discussion of the Prime Minister's public messaging, policing, reporting etc but no conversation can take place without an assumption of good faith, and should we see continued goading from anyone from this point onwards we will be forced to take more decisive action. Again, peace and love

Posted without comment, from the Birmingham thread. I assume it’s ok to do so as it’s a general MNHQ request pertinent to all threads on the the current situation.

DrRiverSong · 06/08/2024 13:59

Jeez. I don’t know that I want to do mumsnet any more. Thanks for posting it. If it wasn’t for this thread I think I’d be out for a good while!

Saucery · 06/08/2024 14:01

I assume typing out “I perceive your post to be full of disingenuous racism and that makes me roll my eyes” would be permitted, but it’s a bit of a faff.

DrRiverSong · 06/08/2024 14:10

That made me laugh @Saucery

medianewbie · 06/08/2024 14:18

@TheOnlyMrsW - THANK YOU. Its brilliant (& has indeed cheered Ds up) x

Happy Birthday @BIossomtoes Cake
@CassieMaddox I have also heard this about immigration lawyers being targeted. The list gets longer and who's to say I'm not on it too?
On locking down social media, it sets a terrible precedent (unlike the lovely precedent I grew up with where it hadn't been invented yet). It would deprive the haters of oxygen but I think we have to defend the right to free speech.

We are really pleased to be able to share that all the children involved in last Monday’s awful incident in Southport who were under our care have now been safely discharged home from Alder Hey.

itsgettingweird · 06/08/2024 15:31

I think one of the reasons people do associate this with far right is also a government precedent set from Tories.

Anyone who didn't want Rwanda scheme, showed any compassion towards asylum seekers or didn't agree with them 100% on immigration was called a leftie.

We even had tofu eating wokerati at one point.

Now these people who stated they were the right and had these views are taking extreme measures and rioting - them being called far right is an insult (apparently!) it's not fair. It shouldn't be done.

Let's face it. You could hand them what they wanted tied to a million pound cheque and they'd still find some reason to have a punch up.

The problem - IMO - hasn't been not listening to either side. That's that the extremes on either side will never be happy. That's what terrorism is born from. And that's why we have to deal with it for what it is.
