For some reason, I have just remembered a pure P.J.O'Rourkism from years ago. Possibly when I got my copy of "All the Trouble in the World" signed at Waterstones, Charing Cross road. The signing was supposed to start at 6, but by 5-30, so many people had crammed in, they shut the shop. Leaving a crowd of angry protesters outside banging the glass.
However that's not the story.
Around about that time he was giving radio interviews, (possibly LBC) and taking calls. Caller after caller disagreed with his views (which were quite mild, really). After the fifth or so call, the interviewer joking said, "Well, PJ, I wonder where all your supporters are ?"
"They have jobs." was the memorable put down.
Returning to current events ... it would be reactionary to suggest these thugs have no jobs and no intention of getting any either. However you do have to wonder who can riot on a weekday ? Unless you are working from home ?
"Attica ! Attica !"
