Hi op, even if she were on the weight loss injections, I think good for her.
My husband and his brother did an experiment recently. Both around 15 stone and 5’10”.
My husband purchased Wegovy for £150 and his brother did not. They both started diets at the same time.
For the first three days, my husband felt so full despite eating nothing, that he couldn’t bear to put even a spoonful of tuna into his mouth. As the week wore on, he was able to eat little bits. Then it was time for his next weekly injection, cue the same again, unable to eat for days then small amounts/meals. As the month passed, the effectiveness of the drug wore off and he was able to eat bigger but healthy meals.
By then, my husband had lost (bypassed even) any cravings for sugar. He was able to eat sensibly and was able to happily maintain this without needing to purchase another month of Wegovy. So total cost £150.
His brother by contrast struggled, especially for the first week. He was starving, but he did cut out sugar. He said that he could have ditched the diet many times, but stuck at it as my husband was doing it too.
He didn’t have a great time, and I think it did affect his mental health for a while, but after a few weeks he started to feel a bit better.
After four weeks, my husband had lost over double what his brother did and with far less diet stress. So these drugs do make it very easy to lose weight and any loss happens quite a bit faster.
Maybe Alison Hammond is telling fibs, or maybe she isn’t and she’s working very hard, who knows. But if you could afford the drug, why wouldn’t you take it?
If I’m ever in the position where I need to lose weight, I would certainly pay for at least one month worth of injections to kick start my diet. It is expensive, but I think it’s worth it if it improves your health.
I get it might feel unfair if you are unable to afford such help. But then, that’s like me and my blooming piraformis syndrome. I’d love to go private and get it sorted. All I got on the NHS was exercises to do, and despite doing them, the condition is agony. But, that’s life isn’t it. Can’t afford to go private, so I’ll have to suck it up and try other ways.
