Alison Hammond weight loss isn’t just cutting out sugar

Hello! I think Alison Hammond is fab and she looks amazing having lost I believe close to 8 stone!

However she said she has cut out sugar and that’s how she has done it. She also has a PT I follow her on Instagram and she posts a lot, I’ve seen one PT session.

I wish celebrities would be honest about their weight loss and how they did it, I think she’s probably used a weight loss drug, I would love to be able to afford a weight loss drug but I can’t.

OP posts:

I'd put money on her using injections to aid the weight loss. But also get why if she is she may not want to go public with it for fear of backlash.

KateMiskin · 31/07/2024 17:07

She may not want to encourage people to go on those injections without medical advice.

Trixiefirecracker · 31/07/2024 17:08

I cut out sugar and went low fat. I have lost 4 stone easily.

She doesn't owe anyone an explanation as to how she's done it, it's her business. Although I do think if she's had a gastric band or gone on Wegovy or whatever, it might just be easier to say so, than constantly have to fend off all the proping questions and speculation. She shouldn't have to feel she must pretend she's done it without help. There is no shame in taking whatever help is available.

If she has 'just cut out sugar' then to lose that amount she'd have had to do a full on keto, proper low carb diet. And everyone is going to want to stick their oar in about whether or not it's healthy, whether or not she's eating too much meat and saturated fat, or not enough fruit and veg, or pointing out that she'll probably ruin her kidneys or her gall bladder or fur up her arteries or whatever.

Honestly, even when you are successfully losing weight, you can't win. Someone always wants to pick holes in your method and tell you you are wrong. So I can understand why she's reluctant to be drawn on the detail.

Roryno · 31/07/2024 17:09

I believe her. I lost three stones and three dress sizes cutting out sugar and upping the exercise. Didn’t count calories or stop carbs. Didn’t touch diet things, just real, unprocessed food. I need to do it again.

LizzieSiddal · 31/07/2024 17:10

These weight loss drugs are very new. Before they were invented people lost weight.
My Dh recently lost weight due to high blood pressure, the Dr said either lose two stone or go on medication for life. Hes lost a stone and a half in a few months by not eating any sugary foods/drinks and little alcohol. So it can be done without drugs.

Bluevelvetsofa · 31/07/2024 17:10

It doesn’t mean that she’s lying about cutting out sugar, even if she’s using something else too. Anything that supports her weight loss is a good thing and eating more healthily and exercising with a PT can only be good things surely.

OkPedro · 31/07/2024 17:10

WannabeHealthier · 31/07/2024 16:48

Well you are awful for saying this. How dare you?! I’m on Mounjaro and it’s amazing- not awful at all. Please have a long hard think about what you are saying and how hurtful it is to those of us who are benefiting from it, who have struggled with obesity for a long time. Have some empathy and compassion for gods sake.

Your Words Hurt.

The pp who you are quoting didn't say "people who take" are awful she said the drug is awful because it messes up the body. If you are happy with using mountjaro and happy with your weight loss then why are you bothered?

DancelikeFredAstaire · 31/07/2024 17:10

What difference does it make to you or anyone else how she did it. Focus on your own lifestyle/diet choices.

Horsecalledrhubard · 31/07/2024 17:11

Hi op, even if she were on the weight loss injections, I think good for her.

My husband and his brother did an experiment recently. Both around 15 stone and 5’10”.

My husband purchased Wegovy for £150 and his brother did not. They both started diets at the same time.
For the first three days, my husband felt so full despite eating nothing, that he couldn’t bear to put even a spoonful of tuna into his mouth. As the week wore on, he was able to eat little bits. Then it was time for his next weekly injection, cue the same again, unable to eat for days then small amounts/meals. As the month passed, the effectiveness of the drug wore off and he was able to eat bigger but healthy meals.
By then, my husband had lost (bypassed even) any cravings for sugar. He was able to eat sensibly and was able to happily maintain this without needing to purchase another month of Wegovy. So total cost £150.

His brother by contrast struggled, especially for the first week. He was starving, but he did cut out sugar. He said that he could have ditched the diet many times, but stuck at it as my husband was doing it too.
He didn’t have a great time, and I think it did affect his mental health for a while, but after a few weeks he started to feel a bit better.

After four weeks, my husband had lost over double what his brother did and with far less diet stress. So these drugs do make it very easy to lose weight and any loss happens quite a bit faster.

Maybe Alison Hammond is telling fibs, or maybe she isn’t and she’s working very hard, who knows. But if you could afford the drug, why wouldn’t you take it?

If I’m ever in the position where I need to lose weight, I would certainly pay for at least one month worth of injections to kick start my diet. It is expensive, but I think it’s worth it if it improves your health.

I get it might feel unfair if you are unable to afford such help. But then, that’s like me and my blooming piraformis syndrome. I’d love to go private and get it sorted. All I got on the NHS was exercises to do, and despite doing them, the condition is agony. But, that’s life isn’t it. Can’t afford to go private, so I’ll have to suck it up and try other ways.

PeriIsKickingMyButt · 31/07/2024 17:12

My DH lost a stone and a half by cutting out sugar (and lots of things that have similar impacts on insulin like white bread etc) so it's possible. If she took injectables (which she probably did, any significant weight loss of formerly long term obese people in 2024 is probably injectables!) it's nobody's business. If she's asked about the weight loss she may just be saying it's from cutting out sugar because it's the truth alongside injections that she has no obligation to share publicly. Is she actually giving interviews all about her weight loss or just being asked about it by nosy people?

IggyAce · 31/07/2024 17:13

I lost nearly 7 stone by cutting out carbs which the body turns to sugar, so it can be done, not everything is the result of a weight loss drug.

Otherstories2002 · 31/07/2024 17:14

GreenAir80 · 31/07/2024 16:13

Yes I admit I am jealous but I’m telling you now no one loses 8 stone on just cutting out sugar

It depends how much sugar they ate.

And, how do you think weight loss medication works? They don’t make a donut calorie free. Reality is you still have to not eat the donut.

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 31/07/2024 17:15

If I could completely eliminate sugar from my diet I suspect I would lose a phenomenal amount of weight, and I'm not as big as her. Many overweight people eat nothing but carbs and sugar, a sugar free diet in it's purest form would involve no bread so if you are someone who eats pastries and cakes and big sandwiches that would dramatically cut your calorie intake.

I hope she isn't being deceptive. It must be really hard being a big woman on TV, it's hard enough being size 16 just going around a normal boring life. I really wish her well.

SevernWonders · 31/07/2024 17:15

Do people understand how these drugs work?

They don't melt your fat away. You can't just jab and carry on eating as you did before - you have to change your eating habits.

If Alison has used them then she will have had to adapted her eating.

Motnight · 31/07/2024 17:16

GreenAir80 · 31/07/2024 16:15

It’s not steady, it’s quite sudden to this level over the last year.

I lost a lot of weight before it became obvious and then once it was my whole shape changed very quickly as I continued to lose weight.

Otherstories2002 · 31/07/2024 17:17

FakeMiddleton · 31/07/2024 16:17

I agree, OP. It's really disingenuous and misleads people trying to lose weight.

Ozempic et al are just awful and will mess up your body. Further, look at the backlash Fern Britton got when it came out she had a gastric sleeve...

BTW, I'm not jealous. I weight 9 stone at 5'7"... I just imagine some people taking Alison's advice and cutting out sugar and getting frustrated it doesn't work so well for them.

Why is ozempic awful? What evidence have you got to support your claim?

Fantapops · 31/07/2024 17:17

I cut out sugar and lost ten stone, it's perfectly possible. No drugs here!

mitogoshi · 31/07/2024 17:17

It's possible to loose weight by following the right diet and taking exercise, I lost 2 stone in 4 months with relative ease by buying a meal plan. All went to pot once i started reducing the pre made meals replacing with home cooked!

I've lost a stone in 4 months this year by buying hello fresh boxes, portion control!

FeckOffNowLads · 31/07/2024 17:18

I lost five stone on keto last year, it’s absolutely doable

and I was 50!

NDornotND · 31/07/2024 17:18

I lost 9.5 stone (from size 28 to 16-18) over about 18 months by low calorie low carb diet. It can be done. Good for Alison, however she did it I say. It's hard, and people always have their opinions about what you're doing & how they know better. If you've never been morbidly obese, you have no idea. People are so much nicer to me now I'm just a bit fat, like many/most other people.

JacksonAverysEyes · 31/07/2024 17:18

GreenAir80 · 31/07/2024 16:13

I once lost 5 stone cutting out sugar. I wasn’t as heavy as she used to be. Just because you haven’t done it, doesn’t make it untrue.

Ottervision · 31/07/2024 17:19

GreenAir80 · 31/07/2024 16:13

Probably calorie counting also. It's easier to lose weight if you've a lot to lose.

How do you think people lost 8 Stone before ozempic op?

TorroFerney · 31/07/2024 17:22

CraftyNavySeal · 31/07/2024 16:12

It’s her private medical business you’re not entitled to know anything about it.

Well perhaps another better way to put it may be to wish celebs/ models etc didn't say they lost weight through just no sugar, have clear skin through drinking water and just have now wrinkles by some quirk of genetics - ie not lie.

budgiegirl · 31/07/2024 17:22

I get what you mean OP. Yes it’s her private business but if you’re going to start talking about something which she seems to have chosen to do, at least be honest. Didn’t she have weight loss surgery a few years ago or am I imagining that ?

How do you know she's not being honest? The comments on this thread about her having injections are all just speculation. It absolutely is possible to lose 8 stone by cutting out all sources of sugar (carbs). From what she has said, she has been doing this for four years, so not all that sudden at all. Sometimes it just takes a while to show, so weight loss appears to be quicker than it actually is.

She's been quite open about having had a gastric band previously, but it didn't work for her. She's clearly now found the method that works for her, and good on her. But no, not good enough for some people - she must be lying about it!

Perhaps she's telling the truth. Perhaps she's telling a half-truth. Perhaps she's lying, but either way, cutting out sugar is a good way to lose weight for many people. What does it matter? The method she is stating works, whether or not it's the one she's used, so she's not giving out bad advice. It's nobody's business but her own. And as a celebrity, of course she'll talk at least a bit about it, because reporters will ask, and the public are obsessed about peoples size/appearance.

She's done a fantastic job, it's really hard to lose that much weight however you do it, stop knocking her and be pleased for someone who's fought the battle and won!
