Alison Hammond weight loss isn’t just cutting out sugar

Hello! I think Alison Hammond is fab and she looks amazing having lost I believe close to 8 stone!

However she said she has cut out sugar and that’s how she has done it. She also has a PT I follow her on Instagram and she posts a lot, I’ve seen one PT session.

I wish celebrities would be honest about their weight loss and how they did it, I think she’s probably used a weight loss drug, I would love to be able to afford a weight loss drug but I can’t.

OP posts:

I agree, OP. It's really disingenuous and misleads people trying to lose weight.

Ozempic et al are just awful and will mess up your body. Further, look at the backlash Fern Britton got when it came out she had a gastric sleeve...

BTW, I'm not jealous. I weight 9 stone at 5'7"... I just imagine some people taking Alison's advice and cutting out sugar and getting frustrated it doesn't work so well for them.

Well you are awful for saying this. How dare you?! I’m on Mounjaro and it’s amazing- not awful at all. Please have a long hard think about what you are saying and how hurtful it is to those of us who are benefiting from it, who have struggled with obesity for a long time. Have some empathy and compassion for gods sake.

Your Words Hurt.

LizzieBennett73 · 31/07/2024 16:49

She could be using a liquid diet? But given that she's had a failed gastric band in the past, I suspect it's more like Ozempic.

But I do agree it's her information to disclose or not.

TeenToTwenties · 31/07/2024 16:49

I have lost 5st in a year by 'cutting out carbs' via keto, and not being very strictly over last 4 months due to family situation. No extra exercise or drugs. So I can imagine her losing more than me.

Before weight loss injections lots of people would have lost weight in many other ways.
Restricting certain food groups being one of them..
I think you are being unfair OP. I just checked out her Instagram. She had a lot to loose and she looks incredible. (Healthy too!)

Snowpaw · 31/07/2024 16:50

I would imagine she doesn't feel the need to post all of her PT sessions online? Most successful (sustainable) weightloss is thanks to the boring shit you do behind closed doors when no one is watching - the trudges through the rain in winter to go and lift weights, the repetitive balanced meals of protein / veg and complex carbs, the 8 hours of sleep you make yourself get by having early nights and saying no to drinks, the choice every day to choose the right foods. People often only realise the extent of your weightloss once it is very noticeable and then they are quick to know your "secret" and how they can achieve that in an immediate way for themselves. You have to play the long game. I think she has done amazing and I can well believe that it is because she has cut out sugar. My partner has lost 43 pounds since Christmas by cutting it out and by stopping eating at 5pm each day. Its been a very noticeable and staggering change in him and he's gone from the pre-diabetic blood range to normal range.

WannabeHealthier · 31/07/2024 16:50

It is no one’s business how she lost the weight. If she is on Mounjaro or similar, she will be eating less sugar so she is not lying!

Naunet · 31/07/2024 16:51

Birmingbacon · 31/07/2024 16:17

You aren’t entitled to our private medical details. It’s that simple

Where did OP demand access to her medical records?!

If you’re in the public eye. the public will speculate on you, if you don’t like it, you can always leave the limelight. When you discuss your weight loss in public, you invite that speculation even more.

OP didn’t say anything nasty about her, she’s purely speculating.

JaneAustenshandbag · 31/07/2024 16:53

Willpower is not a character trait - it’s hormonal. It can be affected by genetics, intake of UPF, childhood - a range of factors. These weight loss drugs help those of us with hormonal imbalances to have the so-called willpower that other people have naturally. If Alison has used mounjaro or similar, then good luck to her. Without intervention- very few morbidly obese people will ever manage to lose the weight.

Beaverbridge · 31/07/2024 16:14

Shes been loosing it steadily over the last few years. She's looking fabulous.

Yes, she's been doing WW. When people do it slowly I don't think others notice and then think it's dramatic, that's what happened with me anyway.

Fourteenrichteas · 31/07/2024 16:53

GreenAir80 · 31/07/2024 16:13

Yes I admit I am jealous but I’m telling you now no one loses 8 stone on just cutting out sugar

Maybe she was drinking golden syrup and eating 5 tonnes of candy floss a day !

I get what you mean OP. Yes it’s her private business but if you’re going to start talking about something which she seems to have chosen to do, at least be honest. Didn’t she have weight loss surgery a few years ago or am I imagining that ?

HotCrossBunplease · 31/07/2024 16:55

You’re totally missing the point that the drugs only help you stick to your dietary changes. They don’t make you lose weight without changing what you eat.

She can be perfectly truthfully saying that she cut out sugar without going into detail about the fact that a drug helped her stay off the sugar. What difference does it make whether it was her own willpower or a drug that curbed the cravings? She’s not selling a willpower weight loss plan.

JabbaTheBeachHut · 31/07/2024 16:55

Seriously OP?

Anyone looking to 'celebrities' for weight-loss advice needs to grow up.

If you choose to follow that nonsense that's your own choice.

No-one's going to play the violin because you don't like what you're seeing/reading and because you can't afford things you want.

TruthorDie · 31/07/2024 16:55

hallyy · 31/07/2024 16:45

I agree OP.
I've got a work colleague who likes to
tell people on facebook her 7 stone weight
loss is due to a gym membership
(but she's had a gastric band)

Funnily enough l have a friend who lost a lot of weight from exercise and going vegan. Lots of people openly ask her about her gastric band but she hadn’t had one. Sometimes they get cranky as they think she’s lying

As others have said Alison most likely has been super strict with the interpretation of sugar and has exercised. I think good on her. She got a warning about her health and did something about it

Blueblell · 31/07/2024 16:56

I do agree if she is posting publicly about her weight loss she should be honest. However I wouldn’t blame her for keeping it private and quite honestly if she can afford it and has a lot to loose she would be mad not to try Ozempic or similar.

FiveTreeHill · 31/07/2024 16:57

If your overweight because you eat a lot of sugar then cutting out sugar will obviously result in you losing weight. If you cut out a large source of calories you will lose weight, generally this is just hard to do longterm hence why people struggle

You know many people lose weight with ozembic/mounjaro. You know people lose weight by diet and excercise. Which category Alison Hammond is in is neither here nor there, it doesn't affect you.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 31/07/2024 16:57

I've been steadily loosing weight for 2 years by cutting out sugar. I had a health scare and found I was prediabetic, its amazing how you can develop will power you never had before when your health depends on it.

JabbaTheBeachHut · 31/07/2024 16:58

I must've missed the law that states just because people post things in public, everyone else has to follow them like sheep?

I've managed to get to the ripe old age of 55 without ever having followed a celebrity or influencer.

If I ever start (doubtful), I certainly won't be mithering about it because it's my choice.

Dannybo · 31/07/2024 16:59

GreenAir80 · 31/07/2024 16:14

It does matter because she’s widely known and respected and she’s saying falsely how she did it.

Alison isn’t private she posts everything on her insta from her new house to her new fella.

I certainly don’t respect anyone who becomes famous for being a mouthpiece

WhereIsMyLight · 31/07/2024 17:02

What she chooses to share is up to her, you have no right to demand more information than she’s willing to give. You’re not entitled to any information she doesn’t want to share just because she’s in the public eye. Leave her alone and let her adjust to new weight, her new image and her new diet.

I lost 6st in a year on slimming world. I ended up with disordered eating and couldn’t recognise myself in the mirror. I restricted my eating and then went off and piled it all back on. And I’m not in the public domain. Imagine seeing people pour over your weight and demand that they’re entitled to your medical information whilst you try to get used to your new body and try to not let the restrictions creep back in. With the added pressure that if she does slip, if she can’t keep the weight off, the abuse is going to be even worse. She’ll have publicly “failed”. Just give the poor woman a bit of bloody peace.

And so what if it was weight loss drugs? Or surgery? She’s been overweight for a long time, certainly as long as she’s been in the public eye. If that’s the route that she’s taken, then that’s the route that works for her. When you’ve lost weight all anyone wants to talk to you about is your weight and how you lost it. But medications/surgery as seen as an easy option rather than acknowledging she was an obese woman living in the public eye. Everyday she’ll have seen a horrible comment made about herself. Everyday she’ll have felt a bit more shit. Getting to the point of needing surgery or weight loss drugs isn’t easy, it means that for years you’ve been living with everyone else’s opinion about you and their derogatory comments about your size. Getting to the point of surgery/weight loss drugs means you’ve been on the diet hamster wheel before and likely ended up bigger.

KateMiskin · 31/07/2024 17:02

I should think most women in the public eye are on weight loss drugs.

I disagree. When you cut out sugar and increase your exercise, you naturally start adopting healthier food choices. I lost 5 stone doing similar.

I do wish people would stop questioning the validity of those who lose large amounts of weight naturally. It absolutely can be done.

Yes they do if they are heavy enough

cutting out sugars and eating low carb will lead to that weight loss

SuperBatFace · 31/07/2024 17:04

Oh all day long she will be on mounjaro.- it produces the losses she's having in the time frame it's happening - I know, it's worked for me

That's not anyone else's business of course. She's not posting saying anything much about her weight loss and quite right too

Livelaughlurgy · 31/07/2024 17:05

When I was in my 20's my friend cut out sugar and lost a ton of weight. I was shocked, until I realised my definition of sugar was sugar in your tea, sweets, biscuits, cakes, ice cream fizzy drinks etc. she cut out jam, stir in sauces with dinner, fruit, yoghurts and loads more that my brain couldn't even comprehend. In hindsight it would be hard to not lose weight with her diet.

She's admitted to following WW, she's just at the point now where it's really noticeable. I seem to remember her starting the same time I started ,so well over 1.5 years ago.
