Southport - reporting restrictions

So the attacker in Southport was a child (17) so will be not be reported on due to reporting restrictions. Due to proximity of the alleged attacked to adulthood and the severity of the crimes do you think in this case it is in the public interest to release at least some details of the alleged killer? Not releasing details fuels speculation that at a public level may not be helpful in my.opinion.

In addition I would think there may be a high chance the attacker had a severe mental illness so after the Nottingham attacks will the debate about personal responsibility for actions during psychosis be raised again?

I have been reading on the court the other day and the pictures of him hiding his face.

Im not a doctor so can’t be 100%, but as I said I have had psychosis, and sadly in the last day or so have seen a friend of a friend having a psychotic break on Facebook live. It’s reminded me of the sheer conviction someone with psychosis has in their beliefs and the frantic panic they have when confronted with actual reality in contrast. I find it very hard to believe he would be in full blown psychosis yet so composed as to sit calmly in silence, cover their face and not speak at all. I’m 99% sure this has nothing to do with psychosis.

I’m saddened that people are so quick to jump to MH issues for heinous acts. It does those with real MH issues no favours. I would imagine it distresses them greatly.

What are they saying? Can you hint or dm me?

It is odd, the fact that he killed at a dance and performance venue and was into acting and performance himself. I won't speculate. But this being a small community, he may well have known some at the venue. He sounds pretty confident in the Dr Who video, also quite a privilege to be casted for it.

He's 17, maybe has MH problems, it would seem likely. His family should have protection & the police should not have to release his name/details to calm the baying mob, but he's in custody & if releasing his details will calm down the rioting, maybe they should?!

id prefer them to send the big vans out, round them all up & shove them in cells. Well it's not quite what I'd like them to do, but...

@Inlaw I'm very sorry that you have had to deal with psychosis.

But your personal experience does not mean that the illness can't manifest in many different ways. Early on in my career I worked as the acting Mental Health Act administrator in my Trust. As such, I sat in on many MHA tribunals. The range of manifestations of people with psychosis was huge - and many were on the face of it cool, calm, collected and utterly rational, until you looked at what they were actually saying. However, once you accepted the premise of their delusional beliefs, what flowed on from that was logically argued and controlled.

At this stage nothing can be ruled out, and nothing can be ruled in.

The first one to utter 'lessons learned' should be out in the cells with the rioters!!
