Southport - why do they keep saying a ‘Taylor Swift themed club’?

It’s really bothering me.

Is it because
a) the murder of 2 children and attempted murder and severe injury of 9 others isn’t newsworthy enough without involving Taylor Swift’s name?

b) Taylor Swift needs to suffer some guilt by association in the way Ariana Grande did with the bombing at her concert?

What’s the need or relevance? If it had been a 80’s music dance class would they keep saying that? Why not just say summer dance club and then focus on the children and adults who were hurt or killed - I can’t even imagine the devastation their families and the whole community must be suffering.

Anyone?

Because it happened at a Taylor Swift themed event and mentioning that is only saying where it happened. It also brings coverage and awareness up, mentioning a celebrity.

Obviously Taylor Swift is not at fault and she’s an incredible person but mentioning her brings their article views up, she’s an extremely famous celebrity.

The law states otherwise

Dismiss what? Go on, spit out what you mean.

I think it just highlights the innocence and wholesomeness of the event.

This. It’s context. Stop being silly.

dottiehens · 30/07/2024 11:01

@PandoraSox Are you ok? It is perfectly normal to be curios about a child murderer? Spare your discourse for someone else.

The suspect is a boy of 17, not yet a man

Once you murder children in my mind you’re no boy, you’re a dangerous man

gizatwirl · 30/07/2024 11:04

There's a huge elephant in the room here and no matter how many of you desperately do the 'look over here don't look over there' dance,in the room it remains.

wherethewildthingis · 30/07/2024 11:04

I went to a Taylor Swift show this summer and what I really felt was a hugely female energy and environment dominated by women and girls- many of them little girls. She has a huge female following and (similar to Ariana) is a star associated with girls, and women to a lesser extent.

I think this specific event being targeted suggests girls were the target. I think that's why the venue keeps being mentioned.

I feel absolutely horrified by this atrocity - as does Taylor clearly, given her post on the subject.

Well Taylor herself has issued a statement which is what I would have expected tbh. I’m sure she’s devastated that girls attending an event to celebrate her have been cut down.

But what do you mean by "your desire to dismiss who is behind the murders"?

If you don't want to explain we shall draw our own conclusions.

As others have said, because it highlights it was an event aimed at little girls.

The attacker will have been expecting a room of predominantly female children. This wasn’t an exam grade dance class or something for those doing dance as an art form, it was little girls having fun in the holidays.

several have also mentioned the centre runs antenatal and post natal classes throughout term time, this is a very female focused environment. He picked this place to attack.

I also speculated a TS dance and yoga workshop would be attended by girls but also facilitated very likely by women, unlike a football camp that's likely to be run by men

Blackcats7 · 30/07/2024 08:37

Just being factual. Why are you bothered?

This. I'm assuming it's because that was what the event was.

MaidOfAle · 30/07/2024 11:06

Creepingivy · 30/07/2024 10:33

It's really bothering me that certain news outlets are saying two children died in the attack. They were murdered, why not state the true facts.

Because the coroner has to declare the cause of death to be stabbing and not something else. For all we know, one of the children could have tripped running down the stairs away from the suspect and died from head injuries. It's unlikely, but possible, so the press cannot say "murder" yet.

dottiehens · 30/07/2024 11:07

I explained I am curious about who did it? You seem very defensive and aggressive about my initial question of who did it? so that is your issue. Pipe down a bit.

MaidOfAle · 30/07/2024 11:08

dottiehens · 30/07/2024 10:50

I wanted a name and a photo and a real reason not speculation.

The suspect is 17 so you can't have that. That's the law, suck it up.

How am I dismissing it? I know fuck all beyond the fact he's male, 17 and from a small village previously only known for lettuces a couple of miles out of Southport. Which is as it should be because speculation leads to failed trials and the whipping up of racist trouble which will damage communities.

Another crazy one. Why are some here so triggered at the wrong thing? Really concerning. Children were murdered. What a weird world!

Saucery · 30/07/2024 11:11

It's not the law that's crazy online after a terrible event like this.

crumpet · 30/07/2024 11:11

The Thai boys who were trapped in a cave were from a football and it was mentioned all the time.

Normallynumb · 30/07/2024 11:15

The two organisers who were critically injured whilst trying to protect 26 girls in their care have just been named
They are both 35

WorriedMama12 · 30/07/2024 11:15

I'm not sure why you're trying to make an issue of them pointing out that it was little girls attending a Taylor Swift style event? It's simply factual.

Sorry who are you? I was not referring or answering to you. However, feel free to pile on 😂

Conniebygaslight · 30/07/2024 11:16

I think perhaps to highlight how excited the children will have been. 😢😢💔💔
