Southport - why do they keep saying a ‘Taylor Swift themed club’?

SandrasNewDo · 30/07/2024 08:35

It’s really bothering me.

Is it because
a) the murder of 2 children and attempted murder and severe injury of 9 others isn’t newsworthy enough without involving Taylor Swift’s name?

b) Taylor Swift needs to suffer some guilt by association in the way Ariana Grande did with the bombing at her concert?

What’s the need or relevance? If it had been a 80’s music dance class would they keep saying that? Why not just say summer dance club and then focus on the children and adults who were hurt or killed - I can’t even imagine the devastation their families and the whole community must be suffering.

Anyone?

Because it’s factual

Because some men have an issue with women such as Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande and try and kill as many people associated with them as possible

This is probably true in general, but we have no idea if it's the case here so I'm not sure this a helpful comment.
I think it's to hi-light the fun and enjoyment the children would have been having, and to compare that with the horror of what then took place.

"Who is behind the murders" is a British-born 17 year old with Rwandan parents, raised in a population 4000 village in Merseyside since the age of six. 90% of Rwandans are Christian. Rwanda, if you forget, was deemed safe enough by the previous government that they tried to send asylum seekers there. In a population 4000 village, you don't get a choice about integrating.

The "no more mosques" and "they don't integrate" crowd can cry harder. Race and religion have nothing to do with this case.

Well until you edited your post to @ me, it was not clear whom you were addressing.

But I completely concur with what Saucery has said.

twilightermummy · 30/07/2024 11:20

I swear to God, the first thing I thought when I read the BBC news article this morning, was why the necessity for the Taylor Swift part? And exactly what you said op about the media not viewing it as newsworthy enough without the Taylor Swift connection. It pissed me off actually.
I can only imagine what those parents are going through today. I highly doubt they're thinking about Taylor Swift.
A child's death is just the worst news to read. It hit home as my children go to holiday clubs, along with thousands of others. It's so sad.

DramaLlamaBangBang · 30/07/2024 11:20

Are people arguing about whether this was incels or Islamists? In terms of ideology and contempt for women, you could barely students a piece of tissue paper between them. Islamists are right wing extremists, as are incense.
If you really want justice for those girls, don't prejudice his trial.

crumblingschools · 30/07/2024 11:21

@MaidOfAle is what you posted officially out there in the news, as I haven’t seen all that detail

Beth216 · 30/07/2024 11:21

Just saw on the BBC: Taylor Swift herself has reacted, saying "the horror of yesterday's attack in Southport is washing over me continuously",

Such an awful awful thing.

The suspect is 17 so you can't have that. That's the law, suck it up.

His name is all over twitter.

Oh I see the outcry is about protecting Muslims. Ok well thanks for the info about the murderer. Hope he rots in prison and the family are held accountable as he is a minor. It is their responsibility.

RIP those poor angels and hope the people in hospital recover quickly.

Reading this post I think there should be more concern shown for the children than for the perpetrator

It's because using the words Taylor Swift drives more traffic and clicks. That's what journalists are taught to do these days.

Yes, rather like the Daily Mail mentions the value of someone's house in any story about anything.

It makes me think she was part of his motive somehow- ie he specifically sought out a Taylor Swift themed event. If so, it's very likely to be an incel.

Yes it makes me feel this too

Bromptotoo · 30/07/2024 11:25

It's factual. Some sort of out of school club type event themed around on of the greatest stars of our era.

Just like we might have had a Beatles themed event in the sixties.

if you believe that everybody throughout the world has the same values, I suggest you look up the genocide there in 1994

Which differed from The Troubles only in terms of the eventual body count. And The Troubles would have had a much higher body count if it wasn't for the police and armed forces keeping both sides in check. There was also the little matter of a white-perpetrated genocide in Germany during WW2, and yes, I am invoking Godwin's Law.

Let's not pretend that white people are immune to the temptation to pick up weapons and go en masse to attack those other different people. We aren't and when we do our skin colour isn't blamed for it.

It's an online discussion and you seemed confused as to why the man hasn't been tried, convicted, had a Netflix series and several books written about him less than 24 hours after his horrendous attack. So I'll address pig ignorance written on an anonymous forum as I like, ta.

It makes it clear that it was a class aimed at little girls I guess to highlight how horrific it is that someone would target them

This is what I thought too.

Interesting on this forum how many people seem to think that someone is foreign if they are born and lived their whole lives in Britain when they do something evil.....but British if they are good and successful. For all we know he may never have left the country let alone been to Rwanda.
I can't see what the origin of his parents has to do with it to be honest, unless they were violent etc. It's often the case that the lives of the parents of criminals are ruined eg Lucy Letby's parents.

There's a huge elephant in the room here and no matter how many of you desperately do the 'look over here don't look over there' dance,in the room it remains.

Any 'elephants' in the room are in the imagination of silly nutters like you. Why don't you please try the Shut The Fuck Up Dance?

What the heck has skin colour to do with it? I see this all the time on here and it's maddening. It's not about skin colour fgs,it's about ideology and radicalisation as I'm sure you probably know.

No, a made up name is all over Twitter.

Someone who lives in the same road and close to the family in Banks is on SM so the name that particular person provided yesterday was most likely correct.
