Southport - why do they keep saying a ‘Taylor Swift themed club’?

SandrasNewDo · 30/07/2024 08:35

It’s really bothering me.

Is it because
a) the murder of 2 children and attempted murder and severe injury of 9 others isn’t newsworthy enough without involving Taylor Swift’s name?

b) Taylor Swift needs to suffer some guilt by association in the way Ariana Grande did with the bombing at her concert?

What’s the need or relevance? If it had been a 80’s music dance class would they keep saying that? Why not just say summer dance club and then focus on the children and adults who were hurt or killed - I can’t even imagine the devastation their families and the whole community must be suffering.

Anyone?

This. Myself and a couple of posters have said this a few times now and certain posters are just carrying on regardless. I expect the thread to be taken down any second to be honest.

Well because sadly that’s where they were, it was quite a specificity named event.

I'm hoping no protests go ahead tonight, it's the last thing needed

This is exactly what I'm worried about. Protests intimidate innocent people and do nothing to help the victims.

SerafinasGoose · 30/07/2024 11:56

The facts that the police are publicly conveying:

The suspect is 17 years old.

He is originally from Cardiff (a point delivered in a pointedly barbed tone by the Chief Constable of Merseyside Police at her press conference).

This is not, at present, being treated as terrorism.

The divisive social media speculation really isn't helpful.

Protests against, or for, what exactly? Confused

True but how many more innocent children and people have to die before something is done. This is getting worse and worse. At some point civilians would have enough and protest in a peaceful way.

Edited

The Politicians' Fallacy: I must do something. <Does completely stupid thing that makes situation worse.> There, I did something.

Sometimes, it's best to do nothing. This is one of those times.

FarmFlowers · 30/07/2024 11:59

What is amazing is how the police-in the same way they did a few days ago when someone tried to cut a soldier's head off-immediately say it is not terror related.

The next breath, they say they don't what the motive is so how on earth can they dismiss one possible motive out of hand, It may not be terror related but by saying so confidently that it is not terror related, then that implies they know what the motive is.

If they don't know what the motive is , then just a few hours after the attack they shouldn't be dismissing any motive.

Whilst technically this guys a ‘minor’ in eyes of the law. I am also in the camp that won’t call him a boy. He’s 17. He’s a teenager if you going to be generous, young man if you’re going to be accurate.

Anyone who’s calling him a child is crazy. Under 16 is child/boy.

And if everyone genuinely thinks 16/17yos are children then why on earth are they allowed in the army/ to work/ to have consensual sex/ to vote if Starmer has his way.

Creepingivy · 30/07/2024 12:01

FarmFlowers · 30/07/2024 11:48

They mention it was a Taylor Swift dance, as it allows us to know that he knew it would be full of children and, at ,most, a couple of women leading the class. He was a coward

There are men our society who believe girls and women should be covered up.

It also allows the full horror to come out-most of us can imagine those children happy and excited on Sunday night, showing their parents how they were going to dance, chattering to their friends, choosing their clothes, singing Taylor Swift songs.

I'll tell you what makes me sick-the way some media outlets refer to a hairy 17 year old as a boy or, even worse, a child. If technically, some bleeding heart comes along to say he is a child-well then just call him a depraved monster-which is what is is.

Absolutely agree, there is no guarantee he is actually 17...

I'm disgusted by some media outlets saying two children died... They were murdered.
In fairness most mainstream media said they were killed but a certain few outlets have said the children died which weakens what actually happened.

Sassenach85 · 30/07/2024 12:01

Women, mothers - need to stand up together very soon for our children’s sakes. We have too much to fear in this world and I’m afraid for my young children growing up in this world. I don’t know how - I just feel such deep pain for those involved in this and all atrocities to women and children.

Then write to your MP to demand a change in the law.

Whilst the law grants the suspect anonymity, obey and accept that.

Because it’s factual

Because some men have an issue with women such as Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande and try and kill as many people associated with them as possible

What??

Any 'elephants' in the room are in the imagination of silly nutters like you. Why don't you please try the Shut The Fuck Up Dance?

Really? You're embarrassing with a foul mouth to boot. I'm cringing for you.

Protests against the murders of innocent civilians. When are the government going to take responsibility? The murderer in Southport was already on the radar of multiple services.. Enough is enough. This can not happen again. This summer has been horrific.

halava · 30/07/2024 12:04

Well in less than twelve months it will be legal to name him. Unless he goes to trial before that and the judge allows his name to be revealed.

So sorry about this and all other atrocities. Sympathy to the bereaved parents, kudos to all who tried to prevent further devastation (the dance teachers etc.), the emergency services, the police and anyone I've forgotten.

The actual police said he is 17, and being born in Cardiff there are British records of his birth.

It still doesn’t change the fact that he’s a minor so entitled to anonymity for the present. He’s being questioned. No charges have yet been brought. Why do you think he should be treated any differently to any other minor in his position ? The law dictates that until you are 18 you are a minor. So as much as you dislike it, that law applies to everyone, regardless of the crime of which they are suspected. If we start playing around with that dictated by public opinion we’re on the slippery slope to mob rule.

Where in law says that a 17yo is a child. It doesn’t. Because we have laws against child labour and child soldiers in this country.

It says they are a minor - until they attain adult age at 18. And as such they are entitled to anonymity. How many different ways would you like this explained to you ?
