Southport - why do they keep saying a ‘Taylor Swift themed club’?

SandrasNewDo · 30/07/2024 08:35

It’s really bothering me.

Is it because
a) the murder of 2 children and attempted murder and severe injury of 9 others isn’t newsworthy enough without involving Taylor Swift’s name?

b) Taylor Swift needs to suffer some guilt by association in the way Ariana Grande did with the bombing at her concert?

What’s the need or relevance? If it had been a 80’s music dance class would they keep saying that? Why not just say summer dance club and then focus on the children and adults who were hurt or killed - I can’t even imagine the devastation their families and the whole community must be suffering.

Anyone?

Could well have been a false-flag mischievous tr*ll wanting to sow discord and mislead the gullible into clicking on VERY CROSS emoticons.

How did you know they were 'liberal' anyway? Because they said they were? Yes, dear. Maybe have a little lie down?

Or not. But your post sounds more worked up than the one you’re responding to

Knowing the law makes me crazy and triggered? Nah, it makes me informed.

Children were murdered by someone who is legally also a child. That's the law. Put up with it.

Oh DUH! May be when I asked I did not know he was 17.

Lbet · 30/07/2024 11:42

Quite funny reading everyone’s take on it, making up their own little stories. None of us was there so how can we possibly think that we know what happened.
You can bet you have all got it totally wrong.

Er, this is Mumsnet, isn't it?

PandoraSox · 30/07/2024 11:45

Creepingivy · 30/07/2024 11:37

Exactly. @PandoraSox prove how it's a "made up name". Many locals on twitter have spoken out & the name is the same. This murderer does not deserve the right to be anonymous.
How can we believe he is 17?

Some far right account(s) pretending to be from the area spread the name and then it got picked up by some fake news outlet.

Think about it. If people from the area were thick enough to tweet the name, the police would come down on them like a ton of bricks.

But time will tell.

Dreamingofgoldfinchlane · 30/07/2024 11:45

PandoraSox · 30/07/2024 11:38

No, it originated from some stupid Twitter account that pretends to be a reputable news outlet. Unless you mean a different name.

I'm referring to the person who is a friend of one of my colleagues who lives in Banks and actually knows of the boy. I'm not on Twitter so I don't know what name is being given on there.

Yes, which is why I asked for facts and not speculation but the triggered ones got mad.

The clear victims are the children murdered and the ones injured. The ones falling over themselves to try to hide the facts are questionable and dangerous people.

Because that’s what the police are telling us. Regardless of what’s happening on twitter, or whether you personally agree with it, if he is 17 he’s a minor and he is entitled to anonymity. It’s the law and it applies to everyone. At the moment he’s being questioned on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, no charges have been brought.

MaturingCheeseball · 30/07/2024 11:46

@SeeSeeRider but you are making personal attacks. I wonder why? Children have been murdered and you’re banging the drum for the “boy”.

Just reminding everyone that the police have asked people on social media not to speculate, and MN have already taken down one thread for just that. We’re coming dangerously close.

OK. Possibly different names.

WeatherNanna · 30/07/2024 11:47

One of the victims is a supply teacher. If they knew exactly which house to raid and he was indeed known to one of the victims, he may know her from school.

FarmFlowers · 30/07/2024 11:48

They mention it was a Taylor Swift dance, as it allows us to know that he knew it would be full of children and, at ,most, a couple of women leading the class. He was a coward

There are men our society who believe girls and women should be covered up.

It also allows the full horror to come out-most of us can imagine those children happy and excited on Sunday night, showing their parents how they were going to dance, chattering to their friends, choosing their clothes, singing Taylor Swift songs.

I'll tell you what makes me sick-the way some media outlets refer to a hairy 17 year old as a boy or, even worse, a child. If technically, some bleeding heart comes along to say he is a child-well then just call him a depraved monster-which is what is is.

True but how many more innocent children and people have to die before something is done. This is getting worse and worse. At some point civilians would have enough and protest in a peaceful way.

Like the Rwandan genocide, those episodes are about tribalism, not skin colour. The Troubles stem from the plantations and the subjugation of the native Irish. Nazi Germany regarded Jews as a different tribe. During the Iraq war, I remember being the politicians and media continuously saying Saddam was gassing his 'own people' (the Marsh Arabs). He didn't see them as his own people. To him, they were a different tribe. Racism is such a handy insult to throw around. But isn't it more tribalism? We feel safer and happier among people whose ways and thoughts aren't dissimilar to our own. Take female genital mutilation for example. Is it actually racism to say 'hey, those values don't belong here'?

A quick look at the difference between our national responses to ISIL's invasion of Syria and Russia's invasion of Ukraine will tell you that we empathise more with the people of other white-majority nations. I don't recall Homes For Syrians having anything like the press coverage and traction and Govt backing that Homes For Ukrainians had. So skin colour is definitely a factor in how we treat others.

No, it's not racist to say that FGM doesn't belong on Earth, never mind the UK. Hibo Wardere, a Somalian immigrant, does excellent work combating FGM, demonstrating that Somalians do not have monolithic groupthink on this.

@dottiehens but these are just racist people who will turn up and fight over "send them back"
The fact he's from Cardiff doesn't fit their narrative

@EasternStandard yes on twitter, two that I've seen. One at the town hall "a rally" and one at a mosque

Who is trying to hid the facts ? The tragedy is barely 24 hours old. The police have the suspect in custody and are trying to establish the motive. When there is something to report, they will report. Conspiracy theory helps no-one - least of all those involved.

Why are you putting "boy" in quotes?

oldwhyno · 30/07/2024 11:52

I'm with you OP. I know it's "factually correct" as so many people are keen point out, but it just feels like there's repeatedly undue emphasis on this one fact. I'm sure it's subjective, but it makes me feel sad. Like somehow this story wouldn't be the same without it.
