How do you define conspiracy theory? Of course plenty of unpopular views turn out to be correct!

It's a theory about a conspiracy. So a theory about some phenomena has resulted from a conspiracy.

So we are having a wet summer so far - that's the phenomena. If I were to say it is a Labour government policy or caused by druids at stonehenge than that would be a conspiracy theory.

sanogo · 25/07/2024 09:47

JFK - there was a second shooter. He was shot in the front of the throat. Oswald was behind him. How can you shoot somebody in the front of the throat if you are behind them?

Cattle mutilations - cattle have been found with body parts removed by surgical precision. In some cases the parts left were the parts that animals would eat first. In one case a calf was found with its spine removed. There has never been any witnesses, footprints or tyre marks and this has been going on for over fifty years all over the world

UFO's/UAP's - the Pentagon have stated that there are things in the skies that they can't identify and that they also had a secret multi million dollar programme researching them called ATTIP.
A ufo crashed in Magenta, Italy in the 1930's before the more well known Roswell in 1947. Both have been covered up but over time people have retired and spoke, an affidavit was released on one military man's death detailing what Roswell really was.
More recently you have a great example of a ufo incident called the tic-tac ufo where the USAF encountered a ufo that looked like a tic-tac. Both pilots have since retired and spoken openly about the incident. There is footage too

There's trillions of planets out there, you think our little earth is the only one with life?

Barbadossunset · 25/07/2024 10:09

Yes. Even weirder, to believe it may have come from a lab was considered racist, while right-thinking progressive position was that it came from the Chinese eating too many bats and pangolins.

@AsiaFlyer I agree. Maybe the racist accusation was spread by the Chinese government. They wanted to squash such a theory and they know that any accusation of racism will immediately make accuser shut up.
The bat and pangolin theory doesn’t imply incompetence or the fact that goodness knows what other man made diseases might be lurking in Chinese labs.

Cloud seeding was badged as a conspiracy theory for a long time but it is actually a real thing.

I think Covid probably came from a lab.

I can’t even see how that’s controversial.
The odds are impossible that a new virus developed organically in the same area when there is a lab that works with dangerous viruses.

Twistybranch · 25/07/2024 10:22

That sleepy Joe Biden was suffering from age related decline and was unfit to govern…….just last month CNN and MSNBC said videos of him freezing on stage, at a concert etc…we’re ‘cheap fakes’

The End of The World podcast episode on Biotechnology went into the rich history of leaks from these laboratories, including a terrifying piece of research that put the likelihood of a worldwide pandemic resulting from a leak at around 30% over the next ten years, I seem to remember. This episode was released at the end of 2018, and I listened to it a matter of months before Covid hit the news.

A 9 year old relative was in hospital in England in Jan 20 for a week with low SATs observed during a GP visit who had diagnosed chest infection that didn’t clear - everything they tested in hospital eg, asthma, was negative and it was put down to a severe viral infection. I visited and was ill for a couple of days the week after, weird flu type ill. I joked at work I’d got covid - thought later maybe it wasn’t so funny though generally I am well behind the rest on accepting theories over official information.

WuHan is a big high speed rail hub and has an international airport. If it started there in October/November '19 it would have escaped very soon after. We are about 200km away and loads of primary schools closed because all of the kids had fevers. My assistant had to take time off to look after her son. We went home to the UK for Christmas soon after and on the plane back there was a bloke coughing his guts up for the whole flight, when I got home I had to go to bed for 3 days with an awful cold/flu which I now believe to have been COVID (original full strength)

NRFT and I'm sure it will already have been mentioned but many including the late Mr al Fayed believe Princess Diana was killed by the establishment

Yes - one theory was that Prince Philip was standing at the entrance to the tunnel with a ray gun.

InsensibleMe · 25/07/2024 10:52

Oh great, a chance to share some whacky conspiracy theories and claim they are true, because a friend whose friend is a nurse etc etc.

But that doesn’t make it true, FFS.

StripedPiggy · 24/07/2024 23:52

The theory was always entirely plausible, but many people rejected it out of hand as a form of virtue-signalling because Trump was amplifying it. And orange man bad. 🙄

Wether it came from a lab or a wet market why would the cover it up
Neither paints the country of origin in a good light

timenowplease · 25/07/2024 11:12

One that's about to break I reckon is con trails/chem trails.

I'm starting to see articles in mainstream media about it and discussing geoengineering to combat climate change and how great that would be.

Only a matter of time.

Because the research in Wuhan was funded by Fauci and the NIH. This is not even a theory. They were doing gain of function research which they shouldn't have been doing.

I have watched documentaries exploring both sides. Tragic accident or conspiracy and tbh there was plausibility on both sides of the argument. More questions than answers iyswim

You'll note that the team contains Peter Daszak, head of EcoHealth Alliance. Ecohealth Alliance who were the one's who received the funding from Fauci to conduct the research on bat coronaviri in the Wuhan lab.

Also to note, all this information was known, freely available and checkable not long after the first lockdown happened.

No mainstream media covered or reported it. To this day the vast majority of people know nothing about this.

Wordsofprey · 25/07/2024 11:34

Plenty have been proven true.

What stumps me is that other people find it hard to believe that rich, powerful people and organisations would conspire to create a scenario where they can become even more rich, or even more powerful, by being deciteful. It's a tale as old as time isn't it? Yet people are very quick to tar everything which has been coined a conspiracy by the MSM as lies and crazy theories. It genuinely astounds me how many people are convinced that conspiracies don't exist in the modern age but just 50 years ago we have a plethora of examples of them. The same governments, laws, loopholes in western society are still largely in place with no major changes, but they've just... Stopped being devious and manipulative. (?????)

The term "conspiracy theory" itself has gained huge traction since around the time of the invention of the television. Now is that because people were speculating more, and the term became more relevant? Or is it because people suddenly had much more access to information that they could interpret and a term needed to be used to "otherise" those who questioned things happening around them? I know what I believe, and it certainly isn't that the rich and powerful stay that way by having integrity and citizens best interests at heart.

Some people have their heads in the sand and cannot be convinced that organisations and governments that prioritise profit and lining their pockets could possibly do anything naughty. Hint - they do.

That’s interesting. Why not, I wonder?

I wanted to have a look at some of the mn theories back when covid first appeared but there are hundreds of pages in the topic and the search engine on here is inefficient so I quickly gave up.

timenowplease · 25/07/2024 11:40

@Barbadossunset I was certainly posting about it, as were a few others. There was an overwhelming tsunami of posts ridiculing and dismissing. Most of those posts came from what I call 'The 5p Army'. Posters who are in the employ of some organisation, UK Government or whatever, who are posting to push a certain narrative.

It's very effective. They all disappear though when a certain critical mass is reached.

I think Covid probably came from a lab.

So do I, and I never understood why, during lockdown, so many people denied this could possibly be the case.

I thought everyone thought this was probably the case, so I never considered it a conspiracy theory. Too many coincidents for it not to be true.

timenowplease · 25/07/2024 11:50

Anyone who's interested in this type of thing can see it playing out in real time on the Trump threads from the other day.

So many poster's saying the same thing, they're absolutely terrified this manic will have his finger on the nuclear button, the country will be ruined, he'll destroy America - I saw a post the other day saying Trump has made his thirst for killing well known! 🤣🤣. Absolutely unhinged.

All these posts and posters seemingly forgetting that Trump as already been President of the US and nothing terrible happened.

PToosher · 25/07/2024 12:30

Anytime someone writes off as a conspiracy theory the suggestion that people 'in authority' may have done something unethical for their own ends, it's worth pointing them to this Wiki:
